Grab at Ho Chi Minh Airport: Step-by-Step Pickup Guide
How to Find the Grab Zone, Avoid Scams, and Toll Costs
Hey everyone, it's Jay!
I'm currently writing this live from Vietnam.
Finding the Grab and taxi pickup locations at Ho Chi Minh City Airport
can be incredibly confusing and overwhelming for first-timers,
so I wanted to share a quick, foolproof guide to make your arrival seamless.

Since my brother was recently relocated from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City,
this was my very first visit to the southern metropolis.
I'll be sharing plenty of local tips, hidden food gems, and aesthetic cafes
from my Ho Chi Minh adventures over the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
1. How to Book a Grab at Ho Chi Minh Airport

Booking a ride is actually very straightforward.
Make sure to download the Grab app and register your credit card
before you leave your home country to avoid any SMS verification issues.
Once you land, simply open the app and tap 'Car'.
In the 'Where to?' search bar,
enter your hotel name or destination address.
After that, you'll need to select your pickup point.
Set your pickup location to Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN)!
Don't worry about the airport being too massive or chaotic.
There is a designated Grab pickup zone specifically for ride-shares!

I had researched this beforehand, but my assigned driver
was incredibly proactive and sent me detailed photos and instructions via the in-app chat.
I'll break down the exact physical location of the Grab Zone
in Section 2 below so you can find it instantly.

Most drivers are super helpful and will gladly
help you load your heavy suitcases into the trunk.
CRITICAL TIP: Always double-check the license plate before getting in!
There are scammers at the terminal who will target confused tourists.
They might ask to look at your phone, cancel your booked Grab ride on your screen,
and trick you into taking their highly overpriced, unlicensed taxi.
Stay alert and only get into the car matching your app details!
2. Where is the Grab Pickup Zone at SGN?

Let’s look at the exact walkthrough to find the Grab Zone.
Once you clear customs and exit the arrival hall gates,
you'll step into a bustling, crowded outdoor area. Don't panic!

Look for a shop right in front of the terminal building called "Lucky Cafe".
If you can't spot it immediately,
simply search Lucky Cafe&Fastfood SGN on Google Maps.

As you can see in the photo,
the cafe is located directly behind Column 6 GF.
From Column 6 GF, turn around to face away from the terminal building,
cross the crosswalk, and you will arrive directly at the Grab Zone.

Wondering if you'll miss it?
Absolutely not—there's always a crowd of travelers
staring at their phones waiting for their rides right here!
Keep an eye on your Grab app to track your driver's real-time location.
As they get closer, actively match the license plates
of incoming cars to ensure you hop into the correct vehicle!
3. Airport to City Center: Fares & Tolls

As my driver kindly clarified in our chat,
there is an official airport toll exit fee.
The Tan Son Nhat airport toll fee is 9,000 VND (about ~$0.32 USD).
My total fare from the airport to our hotel in District 2
(including the base fare, airport toll, and foreign card transaction fee)
came out to approximately 160,000 VND (around ~$6.40 USD).
Considering it's a 40 to 50-minute drive,
paying under ~$7.00 USD is an absolute steal.
Vietnam's ride-share rates make traveling incredibly budget-friendly!
Keep in mind that Grab uses dynamic pricing.
During heavy downpours or peak rush hour traffic,
fares will surge, while mid-day off-peak rides will be even cheaper.
📍 Tan Son Nhat International Airport
36 Trường Sơn, Tân Sơn Hòa, Hồ Chí Minh 705000 Vietnam
📍 Lucky Cafe & Fastfood
RM76+GX8 Terminal 2, Tân Sơn Hòa, Hồ Chí Minh, Vietnam
To summarize your arrival plan:
The official Ho Chi Minh Airport Grab pickup point is:
Directly across the crosswalk
from the Lucky Cafe & Fastfood storefront
where you'll see other travelers waiting.
For a trip to District 2,
expect to pay around 160,000 VND (approx. ~$6.40 USD) including the 9,000 VND toll fee.
Your final fare will vary slightly based on traffic, weather, and your specific hotel destination.
I've been exploring Ho Chi Minh City for a week now,
and I can't wait to share more incredible spots with you all!
