How to Get to Happy Valley Racecourse

It's located on Hong Kong Island, so it's super accessible.

You can easily get there by tram!

Using the Hong Kong tram makes getting there incredibly easy.

You can catch a tram from Central or Causeway Bay.

Just make sure to take a tram heading towards Happy Valley.

Get off at the last stop, and you're there!

Plus, you get to enjoy the Hong Kong cityscapes while you travel by tram – it's a win-win!

What if you accidentally forget your passport?

A Hong Kong Cultural Experience You Can Only Enjoy on Wednesday Nights

If you're planning to visit the Happy Valley Racecourse, make sure to include a Wednesday in your travel itinerary!

It's only open every Wednesday.

Of course, it doesn't operate if a public holiday or the Lunar New Year in Hong Kong falls on a Wednesday.

It's best to check the official website for detailed schedules.

It usually kicks off around 6:30 PM, but the real magic truly begins after the sun has completely set, you know?

That's why I recommend heading there after 7:30 PM!

Where to Sit?

Recommendation: Stand Right in Front of the Fence

You can certainly sit right in front of the racetrack to watch,

but if you want to experience it super close, I highly recommend going right up to the fence.

That way, you can even catch a glimpse of the horses moving!

There are indeed a lot of spots available,

but my absolute top recommendation is to head to the innermost part of the stadium,

and wait right in front of the fence.

Of course, it gets crowded!

If you wait patiently, people will start to clear out after each race.

Then you can go and secure that prime spot.

You often have to wait between 30 minutes to an hour between races,

but I still recommend waiting, as you get to see it right up close!

You'll be able to witness the horses gallop by incredibly close.

The spot right in front of the large screen you see in the right photo is truly the best seat in the house!

The racecourse, all lit up in the evening, was absolutely magnificent!

Just watching the powerful horses thunder around the track is incredibly exhilarating.

Unlike in my home country, it genuinely feels like a vibrant festival!

I was also surprised by how exceptionally clean the facilities were.

There are separate indoor and outdoor viewing areas.

You could tell that a significant investment had been made in the facilities everywhere.

The restrooms were unbelievably clean too!

It was a complete departure from the image I had in my mind, and totally unlike the racetracks depicted in 'Squid Game' from my country!

The Hong Kong Jockey Club is actually the organization behind the Happy Valley Racecourse in Hong Kong.

They sell cute horse figurines, lucky charm items, and more as souvenirs.

But honestly? The prices were more expensive than I expected!

It's fun to look around, but I wouldn't recommend buying anything!

Even if you don't necessarily buy souvenirs here, you might actually get a chance to receive them for free if you visit their restaurants!
