First, a rich broth arrives, followed by a large empty plate set in the center.

The side dishes are simple yet perfectly complement the meal. You'll soon discover the ingenious purpose of that empty plate!

Then came the showstopper! A truly massive, live octopus, so fresh it was still vigorously moving.

Watching it go into the simmering broth was a testament to its incredible freshness.

Here's a glimpse of the octopus preparation. The owner of Nabiui Kkum himself skillfully prepared the octopus right at our table.

He delicately blanched the live octopus, then expertly cut it into bite-sized pieces, transferring them to the empty plate for us to enjoy immediately.

Oh, the octopus! It was an absolute revelation – incredibly tender and soft, unlike any octopus I've ever tasted. I'd give it ten out of five stars if I could!

Once the octopus legs were enjoyed, the body of the octopus, along with other ingredients, continued to simmer in the broth. This created a wonderfully refreshing and flavorful soup, similar to a classic Yeonpotang. This place truly deserves its reputation as a Hamyang must-try!

We also ordered the Nakji Bibimbap (octopus bibimbap) on the side.

It came with a hearty bowl of seonjiguk (ox blood soup) and a flavorful seasoning sauce. Honestly, the male owner who served and prepared our food seemed a bit reserved, almost unfriendly, not really engaging when we asked questions. However, the food was so phenomenal that it completely overshadowed any service shortcomings. I'd gladly come back even if the service was less than stellar!

If you're seeking a 'life-changing' octopus experience – incredibly soft and tender – then Nabiui Kkum in Hamyang is a must-visit. This review is based purely on a local recommendation and our own experience, completely independent of the restaurant.
