1. Former Hokkaido Government Office Branch
Hakodate is a wonderfully walkable city, and despite its compact size, it is packed with historic charm. It is the perfect place to get maximum value out of your Hakodate City Pass.
After visiting the Public Hall, my next stop was the Former Hokkaido Government Office Branch.

Located just below the Public Hall, this striking mint-green building instantly catches your eye with its unique Western-influenced architecture.
📍 Former Hokkaido Government Office Branch
12-18 Motomachi, Hakodate, Hokkaido 040-0054 Japan
Hours: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM (Closed Tuesdays)

Keep in mind that while the historic buildings in Motomachi are close to each other, their seasonal operating hours can vary. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time so you do not get locked out!

There is a lovely park nestled right between these landmarks, so I highly recommend slowing down, taking a breather, and soaking in the local atmosphere.

With their vibrant, contrasting colors, these buildings are incredibly photogenic—even if you just admire them from the outside, they are well worth the trek.
2. Motomachi Park
As you walk from the Public Hall and the Former Government Office toward the British Consulate, you will pass right through Motomachi Park. It is a gorgeous spot year-round, bursting with cherry blossoms in spring and lush roses in summer.
