We kicked off our trip on a Saturday, heading out in the afternoon after the kids finished their activities, arriving in Haenam around 4:00 PM.

Our first stop upon arriving in Haenam was Financier, famous for its delicious Haenam Sweet Potato Bread! We enjoyed some treats inside and also grabbed some for the road. I'll share more detailed photos of these delightful pastries in a separate post.
Haenam Maeil Market
15 Cheonbyeon 2-gil, Haenam-eup, Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, South Korea

Whenever we travel, visiting a local market is a must for us! Conveniently, Haenam Maeil Market is right next to Financier, making it an easy second stop.
Jungang Chicken
Inside Haenam Maeil Market

The market is bustling with all sorts of delicious street food. We heard Jungang Chicken was famous in the fried chicken alley, so we had to get a whole bird! They fry fresh chicken right in front of you with sweet potatoes – expect about a 15-minute wait for this crispy delight.
Haenam Hampyeong Fermented Skate
Inside Haenam Maeil Market

I noticed a stall selling hong-eo (fermented skate). Most of what I saw was imported from the US, but they also had some domestic options. I bought some of the local skate, and the vendor assured me it was fresh and not heavily fermented – and indeed, it was incredibly fresh!
Songho Beach

Songho Beach offers absolutely breathtaking sunsets! We also had a blast trying out the two different types of swings available. I took so many incredible sunset photos that I'll dedicate a separate post to them soon.
Ttangkkeut Hwangtonara Theme Village

We arrived quite late, so we mostly just slept here, but this place is fantastic! They offer both Western-style beds and traditional ondol (floor heating) rooms. The village boasts a spacious sports field, caravan sites, a beautiful fountain, auto-camping sites, and scenic walking trails. Plus, every single room offers an ocean view! I'll be sure to post a detailed review of our stay here soon.

Haenam Catholic Church
This is the beautiful Haenam Catholic Church, where we attended morning mass.

The color is hard to pinpoint exactly, but I'd describe it as a lovely beige-pink. It's truly a stunning church. I'll share more details about its location, mass times, and interior in a dedicated post.
La Beaute

We had a memorable encounter here! After mass, we waited at the church and were the last to receive confession before heading to this restaurant. To our surprise, the priest then walked into the same restaurant! He kindly praised our children and even bought them drinks. It turns out, this restaurant is also run by a fellow church parishioner – what a wonderful coincidence!
Ttangkkeut Pilgrimage Literature Museum

This museum was established to systematically preserve and manage the works and literary historical materials of Haenam's writers from the Joseon Dynasty, modern, and contemporary eras.

On the first floor, you can enjoy some interactive exhibits and displays.
The Book Cafe
Personally, this was my favorite spot!

The second floor houses a special exhibition space and a charming book cafe.

They even have comic books, so kids could easily spend an entire day here having a blast!

I particularly loved the floor seating and tables in the book cafe. The view from the window was absolutely stunning, like a work of art!
