🚗 Parking Tip!

I visited around 4 PM on a Saturday. While weekend parking was pretty tight, I luckily found a spot right away and could head in! If you're planning a weekend afternoon visit, prepare for potential parking waits and allow a little extra time.

👶 Tip for Families with Kids!

Due to the downhill paths and numerous stairs, it's better to walk slowly with your child or use a baby carrier instead of a stroller.

On the way to the entrance of Haedong Yonggungsa, after passing souvenir shops and snack vendors, you'll encounter the Twelve Zodiac Animal statues. It's fun to snap a photo in front of your own zodiac sign!

A bit further in, you'll find the Traffic Safety Prayer Tower. The way it's framed by two massive pillars, revealing itself as you walk, was truly beautiful. This was personally one of my favorite spots at Haedong Yonggungsa.

It's said to be Korea's only tower dedicated to traffic safety. A tower that wishes travelers safe journeys! Not for studies or wealth, but for traffic safety – it truly wishes for what's most important.

As you begin the descent to Haedong Yonggungsa, there's a lovely bamboo forest path. (It's a downhill slope, so a stroller might be a bit risky; my niece was carried down! Haha.)

Even though Busan is my hometown, I kept thinking, "Why did it take me so long to discover this amazing place?!"

After coming down through the bamboo forest, you'll see the main ocean view, the temple structures, and the grand Golden Maitreya Buddha (Podaewhasang).

This Golden Maitreya Buddha at Haedong Yonggungsa is said to be a symbol of compassion and embrace, granting one wish.

People were actually lining up to take photos in front of the Maitreya Buddha. It wasn't a long wait, so we snapped a few pictures too!

Visitors also tried their luck tossing coins onto the back of a turtle, a symbol of longevity.

And then, the truly magnificent sight: Haedong Yonggungsa, where the coastal cliffs blend seamlessly with the serene temple!

The prayer tiles, set against the ocean backdrop, were incredibly moving and picturesque!

The expansive Busan sea, truly breathtaking!

Following the long path you see in the photos will lead you to Haedong Yonggungsa's famous 108 steps.

My niece was getting tired, so we couldn't make it all the way, but if you can, definitely go and cleanse your mind of worldly worries! If anyone asks me for Busan attraction recommendations now, I'll unconditionally suggest Haedong Yonggungsa. Regardless of your religion, it's a unique opportunity to see a temple perched on coastal cliffs, something you can only experience in Busan. Make sure to visit!
