every single summer!

I've put together a comprehensive guide

to the best car-free summer travel spots

where you can travel easily by public transit

and, most importantly, with absolute peace of mind!

How to choose your destination for a solo, car-free summer trip?

These are the standards I always prioritize

when traveling solo.

Especially safety—it's my absolute number one priority.

And since it's summer,

I factored in whether you can comfortably beat the heat,

and if there are great spots to eat delicious food

and visit gorgeous cafes all by yourself

to pick the ultimate travel destinations!

Summer beach vibes! Is it okay to go to Gangneung & Sokcho alone?

Known for the refreshing, cool breeze of the East Sea

and charming, romantic cafe streets,

Gangneung and Sokcho are absolute holy grails for solo travelers.

If you take the KTX train or an express bus from Seoul,

you can get there in about 1 hour 40 minutes to 3 hours,

making it incredibly accessible.

Anmok Beach in Gangneung is particularly famous

for its gorgeous ocean-view cafes with amazing vibes,

making it the perfect place to sit back, zone out,

and just watch the waves solo.

There are plenty of female-only guesthouses,

and tourist police patrol the areas regularly,

so I felt relatively safe even walking around at night.

A solo foodie tour in the Hanok Village! What is Jeonju like in summer?

Jeonju, the ultimate city of gastronomy, centers around the Hanok Village,

and is packed with sights and amazing food in every alley,

making it a dream destination for solo travelers.

From Jeonju Station to the Hanok Village,

it's just a quick taxi or bus ride away,

and once you're inside, almost everything is within walking distance.

You'll see plenty of people walking around in traditional Hanbok,

and there are so many gorgeous photo spots.

is honestly half the fun of visiting Jeonju!

It feels like stepping right into a Korean drama!

I picked a rental shop right near the main gate

that also offers hair styling and makeup!

Because when it comes to Hanbok, the hair styling is everything 😆

For international travelers, just bring your passport for a super easy, on-site pickup!

Just a quick tip: if you're visiting in summer, make sure to choose a lightweight fabric!

Walking around in the midday sun wearing a thick Hanbok can drain your energy fast.

But the shop owner is great at helping you choose,

so definitely ask them for recommendations!!

If you take the KTX from Yongsan Station in Seoul,

you can arrive in just 1 hour 40 mins to 2 hours 20 mins,

and the express bus takes around 2 and a half to 3 hours,

making it incredibly convenient.

During the scorching midday heat, I highly recommend escaping

to indoor spots like the Jeonju National Museum

or taking a breather in a beautifully air-conditioned

Hanok cafe to plan a comfortable, heat-friendly route.

Jeonju also has plenty of restaurants that are perfect for solo dining,

and with the tourist police on patrol,

you'll be able to explore with complete peace of mind.

Can solo travelers on foot still enjoy the beaches, night views, and vibrant summer nights of Busan?

Vibrant city energy meets the laid-back ocean breeze!

Busan is hands down one of my absolute favorite

summer destinations in Korea.

From Seoul, it takes just 2 hours 15 mins to 2 hours 40 mins on the KTX,

and about 4.5 to 5 hours by express bus.

Busan is gorgeous during the day, but its night view shines even brighter!

Gwangan Bridge is honestly breathtaking every single time...

Personally, I think Busan has the most beautiful beaches

in all of Korea...🫶

Busan's subway system is incredibly well-connected,

making solo travel on foot an absolute breeze.

Haeundae Beach is always lively and bustling even at night,

so it's super safe to enjoy the night views solo.

When you're in Haeundae, running along the coastline,

taking the Sky Capsule or Beach Train is an absolute must-do!

I boarded at Mipo and got off at Cheongsapo

to grab a cup of coffee while gazing at the ocean,

and that stretch of coast was incredibly beautiful...🫶

If you're traveling solo, the Beach Train (with single-rider tickets)

is much more budget-friendly than the 2-seater Sky Capsule!

Since summer weekends and sunset slots book up super fast,

it's highly recommended to secure your tickets 1–2 weeks in advance.

I've compared the two options below,

so you can choose the one that fits your travel style best!

Busan City also hosts a variety of special summer night tourism programs,

so exploring those will definitely add some extra fun to your trip!​

How about the thousand-year ancient capital, Gyeongju, and its stunning July lotus flowers?

Blending a thousand years of history with gorgeous nature,

Gyeongju is the absolute perfect destination for those

who love quiet and relaxing solo trips.

From Seoul, it takes **2 hours 10 mins to 2 hours 30 mins** to Singyeongju Station on the KTX,

and about 3.5 hours by express bus.

In July, the lotus flowers bloom in full force,

creating a truly spectacular view.

Walking through them solo feels incredibly peaceful

and healing!

Gyeongju's downtown is easy to navigate by bus,

and renting a bicycle to slowly cruise around Hwangridan-gil

or Daereungwon Tomb Complex is also a wonderful way to explore.

I always rent a bike whenever I visit Gyeongju,

and riding around with the gentle breeze in my hair

just feels so incredibly liberating.

In July, I highly recommend an early morning stroll

around the Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond lotus complex

or the Hwangnam-dong Ancient Tombs lotus colony to catch them in bloom.

And during the heat of the day, heading to a nearby beach

to cool off in the water is the perfect way to spend the afternoon!

Is Incheon, right near Seoul, a good spot for a solo day trip to escape the summer heat?

Just outside of Seoul,

If you're looking for an easy solo getaway,

Incheon is a fantastic option!

If you hop on the subway from downtown Seoul to Incheon Station,

it only takes about 1 to 1.5 hours,

making it the perfect destination for a quick day trip.

Incheon is packed with indoor exhibition spaces

and unique, trendy cafes,

so it’s incredibly easy to plan an indoor-focused itinerary

to beat the summer heat.

While famous spots like Chinatown, Fairytale Village,

and Wolmido Island are always popular,

there are also tons of hip cafes and multi-cultural spaces

to explore and enjoy!

Hot July & August! Tips for Planning a Comfortable and Breezy Route

When it comes to summer travel, your itinerary flow is everything.

Especially if you’re a solo traveler exploring on foot!

Just keep these quick tips in mind to ensure a super comfortable trip.

Under the blazing sun, an ice-cold drink and

a parasol are absolute essentials!

And make sure to escape indoors during the hottest hours of the day!

The sun is incredibly intense between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM...

During this peak window, I highly recommend finding refuge

in cool indoor spaces like cafes, museums, art galleries, or shopping malls

to rest and soak in some culture away from the heat.

Save your outdoor activities for the evening and night!

Once the sun goes down and it cools off a bit,

you can explore night markets, visit stunning night-view spots,

or take a breezy evening stroll along the beach.

There are so many wonderful things to do after dark!

Don't forget to pack these summer travel essentials!
