Gwangalli Millak Market 2026: Fresh Shrimp & Squid Takeaway
Dive into Busan's Gwangalli Millak Raw Fish Market for the freshest shrimp and squid sashimi! Learn about prices, expert preparation, and how to enjoy a local seafood feast.
Craving fresh shrimp and squid in Busan, we explored the bustling fish markets around Gwangalli Beach. Our quest ultimately led us to a true local gem:
Millak Raw Fish Market (민락어민활어직판장)
Honestly, we were just planning a quick sashimi pickup, so I hadn't even considered writing a blog post about it. Our reason for choosing this particular market? A recommendation from a local Busan friend (shoutout to H!) and the market's reputation for fresh catches.
However, the moment we stepped into Daebak Sanghoe (#142) to buy our fresh shrimp, the owner's incredible friendliness and meticulous preparation service completely won us over. It was so impressive, I just *had* to share our experience!
And yes, we ended up grabbing a whole squid, too – perfectly packed and ready to enjoy.

⏰ Operating Hours
Early Morning - 9:50 PM (latest closing)
We arrived at the market entrance around **9:10 PM**, and by then, many customers had left, and shops were already starting to pack up. We asked an owner, and they mentioned that while opening times vary by stall, the market officially closes and turns off its lights at **9:50 PM**, so that's the absolute last call for purchases.
🅿️ Parking
While there's a parking tower, we highly recommend the nearby **Millak Waterfront Public Parking**. The address is: 60 Millaksubyeon-ro 17beon-gil, Suyeong-gu, Busan, South Korea.

So, if you're planning a late visit, it's probably best to arrive a bit earlier than we did – perhaps before 9 PM!
Fresh Shrimp: Daebak Sanghoe (#142)
Delicious Fresh Shrimp, a True Delight!
Our main mission for the evening was fresh shrimp. We'd checked out a few other sashimi places around Gwangalli, but they weren't quite what we were looking for.
As soon as we entered Millak Market, we asked where to find fresh shrimp, and they kindly directed us to **Daebak Sanghoe, stall #142**! Daebak Sanghoe is conveniently located near **Entrance #9, closer to the parking area**. It was so sweet how the vendors helped each other out!
We arrived at Daebak Sanghoe around 9:13 PM.

Fresh shrimp were priced at 8 pieces for ~$7. We decided to purchase ~$22 worth, and the generous owner even threw in a few extra! Score!

But the real reason I ended up writing this review? It's all thanks to their...
💚Expert Preparation!💚🤍✨
I'd heard that other stalls might only trim the heads, but here, they kept the heads intact while **meticulously peeling every single shrimp** for us!

They didn't just quickly peel the shells; they carefully removed the veins from each shrimp and continuously cleaned their workspace. Watching them work with such precision and cleanliness made me feel like *I* had just taken a refreshing shower!

Their hands moved incredibly fast, and even though it was almost closing time, they showed no signs of annoyance, patiently answering all our questions. We were so grateful!!!
Seriously, I walked in just to buy some shrimp, but I left knowing I had to write a glowing review for this place!
Squid Sashimi
The only hiccup? Daebak Sanghoe didn't have any squid that day. So, fresh shrimp in hand, we wandered to another stall. We were quickly (and happily!) "snagged" by the friendly owner of...
Daegu Gyeongbuk Sanghoe (#62)

Squid was priced at **~$15 per piece**. Since Daebak Sanghoe had given us a general idea of prices, we knew this was a fair deal.
When I arrived, there were only three squid left. I playfully said, "Okay, I'll take one, but give me the biggest one!" And true to their word, they picked out the largest of the three for me! Haha!

They were also in the midst of closing, but their hands were incredibly swift; the squid was prepped in a flash! They even included a generous amount of wasabi. <3

Pricing
We only bought two items that day!
Stall | Purchase | Price |
Daebak Sanghoe #142 | Fresh Shrimp (24 pcs) | ~$22 |
Daegu Gyeongbuk Sanghoe #62 | Squid (1 pc) | ~$15 |
Total | ~$36 |
Both stalls **accepted Onnuri Gift Certificates** for payment. When visiting traditional markets like this, it's always a good idea to ask if they accept Onnuri – even mobile versions work!
Takeaway & Dining
A Delicious Feast Back at the Accommodation
With our fresh seafood in hand, we hopped in a taxi and headed back to our accommodation. After a quick freshen-up, it was finally time to dig in!

This was actually my first time trying fresh raw shrimp, and let me tell you, the **succulent, bouncy texture was absolutely insane!** I finally understood why everyone raves about it. I've officially fallen in love with fresh shrimp! (My friend K is now responsible for my newfound obsession!)
Squid sashimi was already a favorite, but the way they sliced it so thinly and long made it perfect for slurping up like noodles. So satisfying!

And what do you do with the shrimp heads, you ask?
Naturally...

The next course was, of course, **shrimp head ramen**! We savored every last bit, making sure nothing went to waste.
Conclusion/Overall Review
👍 Highly, highly, HIGHLY Recommended!
(There are "chojangjip" restaurants nearby where you can eat your purchased seafood, so you don't necessarily need to take it back to your accommodation.)
I would absolutely visit Daebak Sanghoe again. Normally, I don't bother to note down the specific stall for a simple sashimi takeout, but the owner's service was so exceptional, I even took their business card!

In conclusion, our evening of **fresh shrimp (~$22) + squid sashimi (~$15) + drinks back at the accommodation** completely erased any mediocre feelings we had about other sashimi spots along the beach. It was a truly superb Busan night! ㅎㅅㅎ🤍
