When you visit Gunsan, you'll definitely look for
'Gunsan's Top 3 Jjampbong Restaurants'
And among them, I visited the most famous one, Jirinsung.
To get straight to the point: 100% willing to revisit!
If you're traveling to Gunsan, this is a place I highly recommend.

So, how easy is parking at Gunsan Jirinsung?
How long is the wait?
And which is tastier, the Spicy Jjajangmyeon or Spicy Jjampbong?

✔️ Spicy Jjampbong and Spicy Jjajangmyeon are the signature dishes
✔️ No other dishes besides Jjajangmyeon and Jjampbong
✔️ Close to Bokseongru, offering an alternative option

Gunsan's Top 3 Jjampbong Restaurants are usually cited as
Jirinsung, Bokseongru, and Binhaewon (or Wangseong),
and Jirinsung became even more popular after being featured on "Jeon Hyun-moo's Plan" four months ago.
Even though I don't usually like waiting in lines,
we were craving jjampbong so much after a long time
that we headed straight to Jirinsung as soon as we arrived in Gunsan.

Great restaurants often have simple menus...
At Gunsan Jirinsung, beyond the jjajangmyeon and jjampbong dishes,
they don't even have common items like tangsooyuk (sweet and sour pork) or mandu (dumplings).
What's more, they don't operate dinner service,
so if you're visiting Gunsan, you must go for lunch.

And here's a handy tip:
Another of Gunsan's Top 3 Jjampbong Restaurants, Bokseongru, is just 5 minutes away from Jirinsung.
So if the wait at Gunsan Jirinsung is too long,
you can always try Bokseongru,
allowing you to visit without worrying about the wait.
Pro Tip: When the public parking lot is full
✔️ Public parking lot right in front of Gunsan Jirinsung
✔️ Gunsannam Elementary School parking lot (weekends)
✔️ Heungnam-dong Administrative Welfare Center parking lot (weekends)

Parking is generally available at the
public parking lot directly in front of Jirinsung.
* Free parking available *

But what if the public parking lot is full?
You can also use the Gunsannam Elementary School parking lot right next door.
However, the space is quite narrow, and both lots were full when we visited.
* Free parking available *

That's why we found the Heungnam-dong Administrative Welfare Center parking lot.
It was open on the weekend, so thankfully, we were able to park.
Gunsan Jilinseong is just a 4-minute walk away.
* Free parking available *

As you can see, there are quite a few parking options for Gunsan Jilinseong,
so you don't need to worry too much about parking.
Recommended visit: Weekend 1 PM

We parked and arrived at the restaurant around 1 PM,
and only waited about 10 minutes.
By the time we left, past 1:30 PM, there was no waiting line at all.

Especially since March is the off-season,
if you go for a late lunch like I did, you probably won't have to worry about waiting.
But don't go too late, or they might run out of ingredients, so 1 PM is still the recommendation!

As a spot opened up in the hall,
one of the staff members took our order and gave us the order slip.
This seems to make the table turnover quite fast.

For your information, there are also single seats by the window available,
so solo travelers visiting Gunsan
can enjoy a meal without any hassle.
If Shin Ramyun is spicy for you, the regular flavor is recommended.
Of course, everyone experiences food differently, but
from our perspective, as people who handle spice quite well, here's what we thought.
✔️ Spiciness Level
Chili Jjajang > Chili Jjamppong
* If Shin Ramyun is spicy for you, the regular flavor is recommended.
✔️ Flavor
Chili Jjajang > Chili Jjamppong

First, let's dive into the review of Gunsan Jilinseong's Chili Jjajang!
It came out almost as soon as we sat down,
and like 'ganjjajang,' the sauce and toppings were served separately.

Once everything is mixed, it looks like this!
The onions, meat, and Cheongyang peppers are all generously sized, making it look incredibly appetizing.
Especially, the meat was tender and savory, which really enhanced the flavor.

It's not the artificial spiciness of capsaicin, but the authentic heat of Cheongyang peppers,
giving your mouth a delightful kick and a rich umami flavor.
However, if Shin Ramyun is usually spicy for you, I'd recommend the regular jjajang over the chili version.

The Chili Jjamppong was also spicy and refreshing,
and what I loved most was that the noodles didn't have any floury taste.
Plus, it was packed with squid, mushrooms, and shrimp, which I absolutely loved.
(The squid, in particular, was delightfully sweet!)
However, the Chili Jjamppong also means those who find Shin Ramyun spicy should be cautious.
Truthfully, the Chili Jjamppong was also above average in flavor,
but personally, I found the Chili Jjajang to be spicier and more delicious.

If you're like us and enjoy spicy food,
Gunsan Jilinseong's Chili Jjajang and Chili Jjamppong
you'll truly savor every bite.
However, even without the intense spice, both the jjajang and jjamppong boast delicious flavors,
so for those who aren't big fans of spice,
the regular jjajang and regular jjamppong would be perfect! :)
Jilinseong operates from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM on weekdays (Monday to Friday) and from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM on weekends (Saturday and Sunday). It is closed on Tuesdays and does not offer dinner service.
You can use the public parking lot directly in front of Jilinseong. If it's full, especially on weekends, you can use the parking lot at Gunsan Namcho Elementary School or the Heungnam-dong Administrative Welfare Center. The Heungnam-dong Administrative Welfare Center parking lot is about a 4-minute walk from Jilinseong.
When visiting around 1:00 PM on a weekend, there was about a 10-minute wait. After 1:30 PM, there was no waiting. To avoid running out of ingredients and to visit without worrying about a wait, we recommend visiting around 1:00 PM for a late lunch.
According to an article, Gochu Jjajang was spicier and tasted better than Gochu Jjamppong. If you find Shin Ramyun spicy, it's advisable to choose regular Jjajang or regular Jjamppong instead of Gochu Jjajang or Gochu Jjamppong.
