Day Trips in Korea: Do You Really Need to Drive Yourself?
If you're planning a day trip from Seoul (서울) to Gunsan (군산),
there's a lot to consider, from round-trip driving to parking.
Especially on days when local festivals are held, there are so many visitors
that just getting around can be exhausting.
This time, I found a way to visit Gunsan
without any driving worries.
It's the Festival Bus!
I used the Festival Bus departing from Sadang Station (사당역)
on October 3rd, timed with the Gunsan Time Travel Festival (군산 시간여행축제),
and it was much more comfortable than I imagined.

Above all, traveling by Premium Bus meant
that the burden of long-distance travel was significantly reduced.
After arriving in Gunsan, I thoroughly enjoyed five hours,
exploring everything from popular eateries to festivals and tourist attractions.

Today, I've detailed the booking method for the Festival Bus,
the Premium Bus seating, and my review of taking the Festival Bus
for a day trip to Gunsan departing from Seoul.

What is the Festival Bus? How to Book a Domestic Day Trip
The Festival Bus is a bus service designed to help travelers
conveniently travel to local festivals.

It's a great option when you want to visit a local festival in Korea
but find driving yourself too burdensome or public transport transfers
too inconvenient.
This time, I used the Festival Bus operating specifically for the Gunsan Time Travel Festival.

Festival Bus Official Website
You can check the operating festivals and departure locations
on the Festival Bus website, then select your desired schedule
and make a reservation.
It's perfect to use especially now, when there are so many autumn festivals.
Although this Gunsan route departed from Sadang Station,
departure locations and operating schedules may vary for each festival.

Gunsan Day Trip from Seoul,
Boarding the Festival Bus at Sadang Station
The boarding location for this Gunsan Festival Bus
was Sadang Station Exit 1.
After taking the subway to Sadang Station and boarding the bus,
there was no need to look up separate train tickets or
transfer locally.
The journey began the moment I stepped onto the bus!

What's more, the vehicle I used this time
was a Premium Bus, so the seats were spacious and comfortable.
The fact that I could sit back and relax comfortably while traveling from Seoul to Gunsan was what I liked most.

Mid-journey, we also stopped at Jeongancheon Rest Stop (정안휴게소).
After happily grabbing some snacks,
we were off to Gunsan again.

What was even better than a regular express bus was the ability for passengers
to communicate freely with the driver.
Unlike express buses that adhere to fixed schedules,
our Festival Bus driver was flexible, adjusting rest stop times
and other aspects by observing the passengers' needs, which was wonderful.

Premium Bus Seating,
How Different is it from a Regular Bus?
The best part of this Festival Bus trip
was definitely the Premium Bus seating.

From the moment I first boarded,
I immediately noticed the seats were significantly wider than a regular bus.

The space between the seats was generous, and it was comfortable to stretch my legs,
making the burden of long-distance travel much lighter.
What truly impressed me were the backrest and neck support.
When I reclined the seat slightly and leaned back, it supported my neck,
making my posture incredibly comfortable.

If it had been a regular bus seat, sitting for a long time
would have been uncomfortable, but this time,
I was able to lean back and relax during the journey.
A footrest was also provided so I could really stretch my legs.
Placing my legs on the footrest was super comfortable,
as I didn't have to stay in the same position the whole time.
There was even a cup holder for drinks!

It was perfect for holding drinks purchased at rest stops,
and I didn't have to constantly hold them in my hand.

From spacious seats to neck rests, footrests, and cup holders – it had it all!
After experiencing it myself, I could truly appreciate
the benefits of a premium bus.
Most importantly, I could travel while comfortably resting until arriving in Gunsan (군산),
which made the trip less physically demanding at the start.
Gunsan Day Trip: Festival Bus Recommended!
What if I had driven myself from Seoul (서울) to Gunsan?
I would have had to drive round trip and also search for parking
around the festival grounds.
Local festivals tend to attract many visitors,
so traffic and parking issues are always a concern.

But by using the Festival Bus,
I could board at a designated location, and after arriving in Gunsan,
I could focus solely on my trip.
Especially at this Gunsan Time Travel Festival (군산 시간여행축제),
I even had a glass of makgeolli!

This was an experience I simply couldn't have enjoyed if I'd been driving myself.
Eating delicious food, exploring the festival,
and then enjoying makgeolli before taking the bus
back to Seoul was fantastic.
Another big advantage was not having to drive again
when tired after a full day of exploring.

My Trip with the Festival Bus
5-Hour Journey to the Gunsan Time Travel Festival
I arrived in Gunsan around 1 PM
and enjoyed my trip for about 5 hours until 6 PM.

The first place I visited was Gunsan's
famous Chinese restaurant, Binhaewon (빈해원).

As expected, there was a wait,
but it was absolutely worth it, as I savored every bite of the ganjajang, jjambbong, and tangsuyuk!

Afterward, I moved to the Gunsan Time Travel Festival site.
The festival grounds were buzzing with all sorts of delicious treats and exciting hands-on experiences,
and there was even a cool program where you could unleash your inner artist and doodle directly on the ground!
And get this – they had a fun QR code challenge where you could scan codes to 'collect time,'
and if you gathered enough, you could get a gift! Of course, I enthusiastically joined in the fun.
Beyond the festival, I also visited a charming souvenir shop in Gunsan (군산),
where I picked up a magnet, and explored the beautiful Japanese-style House in Sinheung-dong (신흥동 일본식 가옥) and
Chowon Photo Studio (초원사진관).

I also took a moment to relax with a cup of coffee at the Gunsan Confectionery Association (군산과자조합),
enjoying a sweet interlude.

To cap off the day, I made one last stop at the festival grounds,
where I enjoyed some refreshing makgeolli and even caught a glimpse of the beautiful sea.
While this particular Gunsan Time Travel Festival (군산 시간여행축제) has already concluded,
using a festival bus allows you to effortlessly combine a regional festival with nearby
tourist attractions, making for an incredible day trip!

Festival Bus – A Good Idea for Next Time?
At 6 PM, I boarded the festival bus again, heading back to Seoul (서울).
After five hours of exploring Gunsan, I was definitely feeling tired,
but the premium bus seats allowed me to comfortably recline and relax.
Using the festival bus made the beginning and end of my trip so much more convenient.
There's no need to worry about driving; you just hop on the bus and let it take you,
allowing you to truly immerse yourself in the experience of Gunsan.
Of course, you do need to adhere to the fixed departure times, so extending your travel freely isn't an option.
However, for a domestic day trip, having a set itinerary can actually be a huge plus,
helping you make the most of every moment.

I highly recommend it, especially if you're not keen on long-distance driving or
prefer to enjoy regional festivals without the hassle of multiple public transport transfers.
In the future, when I visit other regional festivals,
I'll definitely consider using the festival bus again if it's available!
