Gunsan 4.5-Hour Train Day Trip Itinerary 2026
Maximize your 4.5-hour train day trip to Gunsan with our expertly crafted itineraries. Whether you prefer a relaxed family pace or a packed adventure, we've got you covered.

Embarking on a day trip to Gunsan via the Seohae Geumvit Train means you'll have a tight but exciting 4 hours and 30 minutes to explore.
(Arrive at Gunsan Station at 11:35 AM / Depart from Gunsan Station at 4:19 PM)
To help you make the most of this compact window, I've put together two distinct Gunsan day trip itineraries.
My own trip was a multi-generational affair, traveling with two young children (ages 2 and 0) and my parents. We opted for a relaxed pace to ensure everyone enjoyed themselves without feeling rushed.
However, for those who want to pack in as much as possible, I've also detailed a more comprehensive itinerary.
Simply choose the course that best suits your travel companions and preferred style!
1. My Personal Relaxed Gunsan Itinerary

Since I was traveling with parents and young children during the sweltering August heat, we decided to rent a SoCar for 4 hours.
Picking up and dropping off the car right at Gunsan Station parking lot was incredibly convenient.
If you prefer the comfort of a car, I highly recommend booking your rental in advance, ideally the day before.

Our relaxed Gunsan day trip itinerary was straightforward:
Gunsan Station > Lunch > Gunsan Modern History Museum > Cafe > Gunsan Station
If you're exploring on foot, finding a restaurant in Wolmyeong-dong, near the history museum, allows you to easily connect to other attractions and cafes.
Must-try local dishes in Gunsan include Jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), Muljajang (savory black bean noodles without the typical black sauce), Bakdae-gui (grilled flatfish), and Gejang Baekban (marinated crab set meal). We opted for the delicious Bakdae-gui set!

The Gunsan Modern History Museum truly caters to all ages. With exhibits recreating 1930s life in the Modern Life Hall and a dedicated toddler experience zone, it was perfect for both kids and adults.
If you visit with children, be prepared to spend more time here than anticipated, so factor that into your schedule if you have other stops planned.

After lunch and the museum, you'll likely have an hour or more to spare.
Consider visiting the nearby Modern Art Museum or relaxing at a charming cafe.
We grabbed coffee from a drive-thru and enjoyed a scenic drive towards the Saemangeum Seawall. It was a fantastic way to beat the summer heat! 👍🏻
2. The Packed Gunsan Day Trip Itinerary

If you're traveling solo, with friends, or as a couple and want to experience as much of Gunsan as possible in a short timeframe, this itinerary is for you.
Gunsan Station > Lunch > Gunsan Modern History Museum > Gunsan Modern Art Museum > Chorwon Photo Studio > Gyeongam-dong Railroad Village > Gunsan Station
This packed itinerary is still quite walkable, though I'd recommend taking a bus or taxi between Chorwon Photo Studio and Gyeongam-dong Railroad Village to save time and energy.
Definitely plan to have your meal in the Wolmyeong-dong area.

It's a tight schedule, but with diligent movement, you can truly experience Gunsan's most iconic attractions within your 4.5-hour window.
3. Final Thoughts

If your travel party includes young children, like mine did, I highly recommend the relaxed itinerary for a more enjoyable pace!
If you find you have extra time, you can easily add on other nearby attractions:
• Shinheung-dong Japanese House (a 12-minute walk from the museum)
• Gunsan Modern Art Museum (just a 1-minute walk from the history museum)
• Jinpo Maritime Theme Park (a 4-minute walk)
Choose based on your interests!

Conversely, if you're traveling with friends or a partner, the packed itinerary—covering downtown attractions and the Railroad Village—will likely be a better fit.
If food is a higher priority, consider swapping out one attraction for a culinary adventure at Jjamppong Street or Sundaegukbap (Korean blood sausage soup) Street.
Ultimately, the key isn't how many sights you cram in, but choosing an itinerary that matches your travel pace and situation.
Wishing you a wonderful trip! :)
