An honest review of Green Hill Hotel Onomichi. Located just steps from the station, it’s the perfect, budget-friendly base for exploring Hiroshima’s coastal gem.
While most travelers visit Onomichi as a day trip from Hiroshima,
I decided to spend a full night here this time.
Since I was traveling solo, I really didn't want to drag my heavy suitcase too far,
and because most of Onomichi's main attractions are clustered around the station,
finding a place right on its doorstep was the absolute best choice.
Plus, my next stop was Hiroshima, and I could catch the bus
directly from the stop right in front of the hotel.
To top it off, the entire hotel is non-smoking, so I didn't have to worry about any stale cigarette smell.
Today, I’m sharing my review of the Green Hill Hotel Onomichi.

The Green Hill Hotel is just a short 3-minute walk from Onomichi Station.
If you take the escalator on the left just outside the station up to the 2nd floor,
it connects directly to the G (Ground) floor of the hotel.
There are two entrances: one on the 1st floor and one on the G floor.
For security, if you enter after 11:00 PM, you'll need to press the intercom to get inside.
As a solo traveler, this extra layer of safety and access control
gave me real peace of mind :)
There were three staff members welcoming guests at the reception desk.
While they didn't speak Korean, they were all very fluent in English,
which makes sense given how popular Onomichi is with international travelers.
Starting April 1, 2026, Hiroshima Prefecture has introduced
an additional accommodation tax of ~$1 per night.
They accept credit cards, so keep that in mind!
After checking in, you can pick up your amenities from the station behind you.
I usually pack my own hairbrush and toothbrush, so I didn't need those,
but they had a great selection of other extras like shower towels, razors, and skincare products.
Looking at the floor guide,
the 1st floor is the main entrance, the G floor houses the lobby and front desk,
and the breakfast area is also located on the G floor.
I was assigned a room on the 6th floor, which is the very top floor!
You could feel a bit of the building's age, but everything was spotless
and there wasn't a hint of mustiness.
The Room
I booked a Single Room,
which came with one large twin-size bed in a non-smoking room.
The layout is super straightforward: as soon as you walk in,
the bed is on your left and the desk is on your right.
Opposite the bed, the desk area
was equipped with desk lighting, a TV, and a mini-fridge.
On the desk, they had nicely laid out
a welcome cookie and some instant lemonade powder.
Onomichi is famous for its local lemons,
so you'll see lemon-themed goodies everywhere here! 🍋
There was also a multi-charger right by the head of the bed.
It featured both USB and Type-C connectors, which was incredibly convenient
since I didn't have to dig my own cables out of my bag.
The bathroom had a standard business hotel layout,
equipped with a bathtub, sink, and toilet.
It was also super clean with absolutely no odor!
When I opened the closet,
there was a safe, slippers, an iron, two pillowcases,
an umbrella, and even extra pillows.
Inside the fridge, there was bottled water and jelly
that looked like local Onomichi specialties.
You can mix the lemonade powder into the water
or just drink it plain.
The hair dryer was actually a Dyson!
It dried my hair so fast, which was amazing!
An electric kettle, cups, coffee, and tea were all fully provided.
I tried the coffee in the morning, and it was really delicious.
There was also an air purifier in the room,
but since everything was so clean and fresh, I didn't need to use it.
And now, the most important detail: the price!
I booked it on Agoda with a free cancellation option for ~$53,
but of course, this can vary depending on weekends and peak seasons.
Since Onomichi is a popular destination for international tourists,
standard room rates in the area tend to be on the higher side.
But Green Hill Hotel is located right near the station, which is super convenient,
and it was also very reasonably priced compared to other hotels.
Right next to the front desk, there’s a little shop selling Onomichi souvenirs.
If you don’t have time to go souvenir hunting, you can easily grab some here.
The prices were pretty much the same as the souvenir shops right outside the station.
All rooms are non-smoking, but there is a designated smoking room on the first floor.
There are also washing machines available, which is a great tip for long-term travelers.
And true to Onomichi's reputation as a famous cycling destination,
there was even a dedicated bicycle parking space.
My room didn’t have an ocean view,
which was a tiny bit disappointing, but as soon as you step outside the hotel,
you can soak in the gorgeous sea views to your heart's content :)
There is a lovely walking path right in front of the hotel along the sea,
making it the perfect spot for a leisurely stroll.
There’s also a Lawson convenience store just a 3-minute walk from the hotel.
You can't skip the joy of a Japanese convenience store run
when traveling in Japan, so having one so close was absolutely perfect.

Hiroshima Onomichi Travel: Best Izakaya Recommendations
