The Lobby

I don't usually talk much about hotel lobbies, but I just have to this time.

Because it was incredibly grand and exceeded all my expectations!

To be honest, I chose Grand Central Hotel Shanghai for one reason only.

The location is absolutely amazing!

(Location is always my top priority when picking a hotel! ✨️)

I did hesitate a bit at first because I read some reviews

saying that Grand Central Hotel Shanghai was slightly dated,

but as soon as I stepped inside, the lobby was amazingly grand,

spacious, and beautifully glittering.

(Slightly exaggerated, but it felt like a grand ballroom from a fantasy romance novel!)

After walking past the ballroom-like lobby, you'll find the check-in counter. Keep in mind there's a deposit of 500 CNY (about ~$70).

If you use Alipay for the deposit like I did,

it takes 1 to 2 days after check-out to get the 500 CNY refunded,

which can leave you in the awkward situation of having to exchange it back to your local currency later.

So, I highly recommend using a credit card for the deposit and just having it pre-authorized/canceled.

From the moment I walked into the hotel, the luxury was next level.

Even the elevators and hallways were so fancy, I felt like a noble lady in a fantasy novel.. 💗

The Room

As some reviews suggested, the room I was assigned did feel slightly dated,

but it was incredibly spacious, which I absolutely loved.

The bed was so fluffy and cozy ❤️

I also liked the Shanghai Joyful Yard Hotel,

but in terms of room size alone, this place wins by a landslide.

Even though there was no fridge in sight...

Apparently, it's hidden somewhere, but I just couldn't find it...

I was so confused that I looked up other reviews,

and yes, they say it's hidden. So keep your eyes peeled! 🥲

The room slippers provided were actually quite nice.

I loved that they didn't feel like flimsy paper ones.

There was also a TV, though I was too busy exploring outside to ever turn it on.

A desk that looked perfect for setting up a laptop and getting some work done,

and they even provided basic office supplies! Honestly, I've never seen that in a hotel before (?)

I was definitely more interested in the room service menu than the office supplies.

But I didn't actually order anything lol

There were hangers in the closet with the iron,

but look at those stylish-looking hangers on the left! Pretty cool, right?

They also had some tea bags and snacks ready for us.

The Bathroom

I loved how spacious the bathroom was,

and the gleaming gold accents were totally my vibe.

The shower area was super shiny too.

The amenities at our previous stay (Shanghai Joyful Yard Hotel) were a bit disappointing,

but the ones here were actually pretty good.

(To be fair, I'm quite generous with amenities as long as they get the job done!)

There was a bathtub too, and yes, it was sparkling gold ❤️

Here is a look at the vanity setup!

The hairdryer had a really strong airflow, which was awesome.

My sibling even claimed this hairdryer was better than my Dyson! 😂

Breakfast

When you walk through the main entrance, there's a lovely cafe-like space that transforms into the breakfast buffet area in the morning.

Since the reviews for the breakfast were pretty decent, I paid extra to try it out...

It was worth trying once, but in my opinion, you could probably skip it.

To be honest, the prices don't differ drastically across platforms.

Unless you have a specific credit card discount or loyalty points on a favorite site,

and absolutely need to book on one specific platform...

it's always best to book wherever is cheapest

and save that extra cash to buy delicious street food, right?
