While it is a relatively compact city, Granada is famous for its incredibly steep, winding hills.

To save your legs and make your trip much more comfortable, relying on the local city buses is highly recommended.

Since most travelers only stay in Granada for 2 to 3 days, a €5 top-up shared between two people is usually plenty. However, if you plan to explore extensively or take day trips out to nearby trailheads, starting with a €10 top-up might be more convenient.

*If you look at the official fare table, topping up €10 or €20 seems to offer a slightly cheaper rate. This is because the system adds a small bonus to your balance (loading €10.19 for a €10 top-up, or €20.77 for a €20 top-up). The amount deducted per tap will still show as €0.54 on the screen.

The card readers inside the bus look like this. If you are traveling as a pair, tap the card twice. When transferring to another line within the allowed transfer window, tap twice again—the system will recognize it as a free transfer.

The screen will display Consumo (the fare deducted for the ride) and Saldo (your remaining card balance).

Note that when you board, there may be a reader right at the entrance door and another one slightly further inside. Use the main machine located slightly further into the cabin to validate your ride.

Granada operates two types of buses: standard buses and minibuses.
