Granada Adventure: Your Ultimate 2-Day Itinerary
Let's make the most of it, even exploring charming nearby towns!
Hello, everyone! I'm Melissa, your Spain travel blogger.
As I plan my next trip back to Spain,
I'm currently mapping out my Granada itinerary.
Since I've already thoroughly explored the main tourist spots before,
I'm focusing my search on the best local eateries this time.
And even though I'm revisiting, I'm absolutely thrilled!
Granada is one of the major cities in Southern Spain,
and a must-visit destination for anyone traveling through Spain.
Most people tend to stay for one night, or a maximum of two.
Personally, I believe a solid 1.5 days is
the minimum you'll need.
With a full 1.5 days, you can explore both the magnificent Alhambra Palace and
the charming nearby towns of Nerja and Frigiliana.
You'll have enough time to see it all!
Of course, it will be a packed itinerary,
but you'll be able to see and experience as much as possible.
So, are you ready to dive into a busy but rewarding adventure with me?

1. Must-Visit Places for Your Granada Trip
📍 Granada
Granada, Spain

Shall we take a look at the map first?
Granada is a somewhat elongated city.
The bus terminal is located north of the city,
a bit far from the city center.
The train station offers much better access to the city center,
so keep that in mind when traveling to or from other cities like Seville.
In any city, the area around the cathedral is usually the 'Centro' or city center,
and it's generally best to find accommodation there for convenience.
When visiting Granada, these are the must-see spots:
✔️The Alhambra Palace
✔️Mirador de San Nicolás (St. Nicholas Viewpoint)
✔️Granada Cathedral
✔️Alcaicería (Old Silk Market)
These are the essential stops.
While there aren't a huge number of major attractions,
the city itself exudes a unique and captivating atmosphere,
so I recommend simply strolling around and soaking it all in.
Granada isn't an overwhelmingly large city,
but its streets are heavily cobbled, making extensive walking quite tiring,
and dragging luggage can be particularly challenging.
The Albaicín district offers stunning Alhambra views,
and many travelers choose to stay there,
but that area features a challenging combination of steep inclines, cobblestone paths, and narrow alleys.
It's a tricky three-combo! So be prepared.
2. Your 2-Day Granada Itinerary
When you arrive in Granada, you might be coming from Seville
or flying in from Barcelona or Madrid.
I'll break down the itinerary for your arrival day and the following day
in detail.
*This itinerary assumes you'll be starting your Granada adventure very early in the morning.
Explore Nerja/Frigiliana - Arrive in Granada - Tetería Street - Mirador de San Nicolás - Tapas Tour |

First thing in the morning, let's head to Nerja.
Your ultimate destination is the white village of Frigiliana,
and all travel will be by bus.
You can also enjoy lunch in Nerja or Frigiliana.
I recommend arriving in Granada in the late afternoon,
as part of your itinerary.
I've included Tetería Street in the itinerary.
▼Street Location▼
While there aren't any grand sights to behold here,
Granada boasts many unique teterías that you won't find in other Spanish cities.
A tetería is a Spanish tea house.
This is a reflection of the city's strong Arab cultural influence.
From the Alhambra Palace to the city's overall ambiance, Granada is a place where Arab culture has left an indelible mark.
It's truly a city with a distinctive character!
In these uniquely decorated establishments,
you can enjoy tea, desserts, and even shisha (water pipe).
The atmosphere of a tetería is roughly captured in the photos linked below.
Isn't it fascinating to find places like these in Spain?
Get your Instagram-worthy moments right here! :)
Enjoy a cup of tea and climb up to the Mirador de San Nicolás
to take in the Alhambra night view. It's incredibly beautiful!
While there are restaurants with Alhambra views,
I recommend just enjoying the view to your heart's content from the Mirador de San Nicolás,
and then for dinner, dive into Granada's amazing tapas culture
where one tapa comes free with each drink.
Just be careful not to fill up at just one place!

Explore the Alhambra Palace with a morning reservation.
Booking your Alhambra Palace visit is absolutely essential.
The Alhambra Palace is much, much larger than you might expect.
It's best to navigate with a map to make your visit smoother,
and since it holds immense historical value,
it's a great idea to do some research beforehand.

From the Hall of the Two Sisters to countless other famous areas,
there are so many iconic spots to discover.
Though it's called a palace, it's really more of a sprawling complex,
with various buildings intertwined.
Give yourself plenty of time to explore it all.
✨Curious about the Alhambra Palace but not confident navigating it on your own?
For a vast palace like this, I highly recommend a guided tour, where experts manage your entire route and timing,
and you can hear detailed explanations about each section.
Utilizing a tour here will not only create lasting memories
but also significantly enhance the value of your trip.

The Granada Cathedral, converted from a mosque, is also worth exploring.
The Alcaicería is a traditional market,
where you can buy souvenirs, including magnets.

Thinking about visiting the Alhambra Palace in the afternoon?
During the winter season, the Alhambra can feel a bit quiet,
so I recommend an afternoon entry over a morning one.
If you want to visit the Alhambra on the afternoon of your arrival in Granada,
you'd either have to carry your luggage to Nerja the next day,
or sacrifice visiting Nerja/Frigiliana
to make a 2-day, 1-night Granada trip work.
3. Where to Stay in Granada?
As I briefly mentioned above,
it's best to stay in the city center, near the Cathedral.
The highlight of a Granada trip is the tapas tour,
and to explore several restaurants that are open late into the night,
your hotel should be conveniently close to them.
Also, for safety reasons,
it's best to minimize travel distances at night.
For my Granada trip, I stayed at a highly-rated hotel right in the city center, and there's a good reason it's so well-reviewed...
🔎Recommended City Center Hotel in Granada
I loved both the room condition and the hotel's interior design,
and the staff were so kind, making it the most memorable place I stayed during my trip.
Wishing you all a wonderful trip to Granada!
Buen Viaje!
