Craving an authentic taste of Korea? Geodae Gomtang in Busan offers an unparalleled beef soup experience. Its rich broth and generous portions make it a true hidden gem near Haeundae Beach.
During my time staying near Haeundae, there was one restaurant I absolutely longed to visit.
It's called 'Geodae Gomtang,' and I kept seeing countless recommendations for it across social media, making me incredibly curious about its taste. I even ordered a pack of their gomtang from an online grocery service, and the broth was absolutely phenomenal. I figured the experience at the main branch would be even better, so I rushed over to try it for myself.

Geodae Gomtang Location
Geodae Gomtang is about a 7-8 minute walk from Dongbaek Station Exit 1. While you could technically walk from Haeundae Station, it's quite a distance, taking over 15 minutes. I opted to take the subway one stop from Haeundae Station to Dongbaek Station to save time.
I visited in early April 2026, when the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. The area around the restaurant offers many pleasant paths for walking or jogging. It connects to popular spots like The Bay 101, Dongbaek Island, Songnim Park, and even extends all the way to Haeundae Beach.
Interior
I intentionally arrived later in the evening, expecting the 6-7 PM rush hour. Even so, there was still a wait! It seems customers who've tried Geodae Gomtang once can't forget the taste and keep coming back for more.
All ingredients are domestic! A+ for quality.
There were 7 groups ahead of me, but the line moved quickly, and I was seated within 10 minutes.
Interestingly, this gomtang restaurant also sells galbi (rib) gift sets. Some sets are incredibly luxurious, costing well over ~$690! These are advertised as top 1% Hanwoo (Korean beef), specifically No. 9 grade or higher.
Menu
Let's take a look at the Geodae Gomtang menu. The very first item was the 'Rich and Deeper Milky Gomtang.' I didn't hesitate for a second and chose it immediately.
Other gomtang varieties are also priced around ~$14, with the ox knee soup (Doganitang) being slightly more expensive. I noticed many other tables ordering sides like Jeyuk (spicy pork) or Suyuk (boiled beef slices) along with their gomtang.
For seasoning, only two options are provided: pepper and salt.
The side dishes include kimchi and kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi), along with green onions to add to your gomtang, a dipping sauce for the meat, minced garlic, and myeongnanjeot (salted pollack roe).
For a gomtang restaurant to truly earn its reputation, it's not enough for the soup to be delicious; the side dishes must also be exceptional. The kimchi and kkakdugi here were perfectly fermented, not too sour, and enjoyable even without rice.
Finally, my gomtang arrived. Can you spot the thin film that formed on the surface less than 10 seconds after it was placed on the table?
That thin film alone tells you everything you need to know about its incredible richness.
Seeing that distinct layer on the broth reminded me of Cheongwaok in Euljiro, my all-time favorite sundae-guk (blood sausage soup) spot. But this was my first time seeing such a film on gomtang.
The color itself is different; a creamy, milky white is the perfect description.
I added a generous amount of green onions,
and though it was hidden beneath the surface, the amount of meat was so substantial I could barely lift it with my spoon! They don't call it Geodae (meaning 'giant' or 'huge') Gomtang for nothing.
Add a sprinkle of pepper, and it's pure bliss. The broth was perfectly seasoned even without adding extra salt. This wasn't just the best gomtang I'd had recently; it was so shockingly delicious it surpassed every other gomtang I've ever tasted.
Midway through my meal, I added some myeongnanjeot. It wasn't salty at all and actually enhanced the umami flavor of the gomtang.
Just as the richness started to build, I alternated bites with a piece of kimchi and kkakdugi. It was a truly moving culinary experience.
Geodae Gomtang was the most impactful culinary discovery of my Busan trip. There's a reason I emphasized that the broth is truly different in the title. I believe anyone who takes a spoonful will be equally impressed. This is definitely a spot I'll be revisiting!
