Discover Ganppa Beer Gwangalli in Busan, a must-visit for authentic Sapporo draft beer. Learn about waiting tips, the vibrant atmosphere, and delicious food pairings.
It had been a couple of months since my last trip to Japan, and I was seriously craving a fresh draft beer. That's why I found myself making a special trip to Busan!
The spot I discovered this time around is Ganppa Beer, a place truly dedicated to serving up authentic Sapporo draft beer just right!
I'd wanted to visit this place for ages, and I finally got to experience it this trip :)

Getting There & Waiting

It's about a 5-minute walk from Geumnyeonsan Station on the subway.
I actually got off at Suyeong Station, took a leisurely stroll along Gwangalli Beach to digest my dinner, and then walked over. It was a pleasant walk!

Before visiting, you can check the waiting situation via Catchtable, a popular local reservation app. Since I went on a weekday, there was no wait, and I could walk right in.

Online waiting on Catchtable opens at 6:10 PM. You can also make priority reservations in advance, so if you plan to visit during peak hours, I highly recommend booking ahead of time.

The Catchtable notice mentioned that even patrons in their 30s and 40s should bring ID, so I made sure to have mine. However, they didn't actually check it.
Menu & Interior

After a staff member guides you to your seat, you check the menu and then head to the counter for upfront payment. It's nice that you can just order beer without any food if you prefer.
They offer two types of draft beer: Sapporo and Yebisu, along with various set menus.

I was tempted by the 5-second challenge! While I love beer, I'm not a fast drinker, so I seriously deliberated whether to try it or not. I'm a bit of an introvert, so I was worried about all eyes being on me...

I tend to visit the restroom frequently when drinking beer, so it was convenient to have one located inside the bar!

Next to the restroom, there's even a spot where you can print photos onto receipt paper to commemorate your visit :)

That's why you'll see the entire wall covered in these fun photos!

Seeing their dedicated keg refrigeration system, which is even rare to find in Japan, really showed me that the owners are truly serious about their beer.

I always pay close attention to how beer is poured, even in Japan, and the way they pour at Ganppa Beer was just as meticulous and thoughtful.
What We Ordered

We ordered the set with fried chicken skin and two Sapporo draft beers.
The chicken skin, with its familiar Kewpie-like mayonnaise and a sweet-and-savory soy sauce dressing, was absolutely perfect with the beer!
We visited around 8:00 PM, and many items were already sold out. Since we'd already had dinner, we only ordered one light snack, but next time, I'll definitely go earlier to try other menu items.

Cheers! The Pikachu wet wipe dispenser was definitely stealing the show 🍻

This draft beer, with its perfect 'angel's ring' of foam, was simply divine.
With just one sip, the crisp, clean taste typical of Sapporo shone through. The hop bitterness wasn't overpowering, making it incredibly smooth to drink.
Thanks to being poured directly from a refrigerated keg, the taste was pure and free of any off-flavors.

For someone like me, who travels to Japan specifically for beer festivals like Sapporo Beer Festival and Oktoberfest, this long-awaited draft beer was incredibly satisfying!
Even though it was a bit lively and crowded, that's part of the charm of an authentic Japanese-style izakaya, wouldn't you agree?
If you're a fan of Sapporo draft beer, I highly recommend stopping by Ganppa Beer – whether it's the Gwangalli branch in Busan, or any of their locations in Seoul or Changwon! 👍
Ganppa Beer Gwangalli Branch operates daily from 6 PM to 2 AM. The last order is at 1 AM.
You can check the real-time waiting status in advance through the Catchtable app. Catchtable's online waiting list opens at 6:10 PM, and priority entry reservations are also available.
The article mentioned that fried chicken skin was ordered with a set of two Sapporo draft beers. It was noted for its Kewpie mayonnaise flavor and a sweet and savory soy sauce seasoning.
After being guided by staff, you view the menu and then go to the counter for pre-payment. It is said that ordering only beer without snacks is also possible.
