Gamaksan Flower & Star Festival 2026: Geochang's Autumn Wind Farm Blooms
Experience the breathtaking Gamaksan Flower & Star Festival 2026 in Geochang, where vibrant purple asters meet majestic wind turbines. Don't miss this unique autumn spectacle!

If you're planning a trip to Geochang in autumn,
Gamaksan Wind Farm's Byeolbaram Hill in Geochang
is definitely a place worth checking out.
With purple aster chrysanthemums
and colossal wind turbines harmonizing,
you can experience a landscape
that's hard to find at other autumn flower destinations.

My family also took a day trip to Geochang
during last year's Chuseok holiday.
The first autumn spot we headed to in Geochang
was none other than Gamaksan Byeolbaram Hill.
This year, the 6th Gamaksan Flower Star Journey festival will also take place.
The festival period for 2026 is
from September 18th to October 11th,
and it will be held at Gamaksan Byeolbaram Hill in Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam.
Operating hours are from 7 AM to 7 PM.
This year, especially, if you want to drive your own car
up to the event venue,
advance vehicle reservation is essential.
Unreserved vehicles should park at the Geochang Advanced Industrial Complex
and then use the shuttle bus, which costs ~$2 for a round trip.
Make sure to check this before you depart.
When I visited during the Chuseok holiday,
Parking alone took a while.

Even when I visited last year,
the Gamaksan Flower Star Journey festival was in full swing.
With the Chuseok holiday overlapping, there were truly a lot of people,
and I remember it took quite some time
just to get into the parking lot.

So, if you plan to visit this year,
it's best to first check on advance vehicle reservations.
You can make reservations via the link below.

If you weren't able to make a reservation, I recommend checking
the parking lot for unreserved vehicles and the shuttle bus usage method
in advance before heading out.

After parking the car and heading towards the flower fields,
there were many white Siberian chrysanthemums blooming at the entrance.
I actually went expecting only aster chrysanthemums,
but the Siberian chrysanthemums were also beautiful and caught my eye for a long time. Haha.
Not just aster chrysanthemums,
but I was able to see a variety of autumn flowers together.
The Purple Flower Fields Seen from the Observatory

If you walk up a little from the entrance,
you'll find a round, tall observatory.
Personally, if you're going to Gamaksan,
it's a place I highly recommend climbing up to first.

Looking down from above,
amidst the green landscape,
a wide field of purple aster chrysanthemums stretched out.
Even though the sky was very cloudy on the day we visited,
the color of the flowers was incredibly vibrant.

However, due to the clouds and fog,
not being able to properly see the distant mountain scenery
is still a bit regrettable when I think about it now.
If you want to capture the flower fields, wind turbines,
and wide-open views in your photos,
make sure to check the weather along with the blooming conditions.
Through the Reed Fields and Into the Aster Chrysanthemum Fields

Around the observatory,
there was also a path where you could walk through the reed fields.
As I walked along the narrow path,
it felt like walking through a small maze,
offering a different kind of enjoyment compared to the flower fields.

After passing through the reed fields, we truly
entered the aster chrysanthemum fields.
The aster chrysanthemums seen up close
had a much more vivid purple color than I had imagined.
My family also spent a long time
taking photos among the flower fields.

Since the purple is so vibrant,
if you wear bright clothes like white,
your photos will turn out amazing! 😉
Keep this in mind if you want to capture some life-of-a-lifetime shots at Gamaksan Mountain!
Wind Turbines and Aster Flowers:
A Unique Landscape

My biggest reason for recommending Gamaksan Mountain
as a must-visit autumn destination in Geochang
isn't just because the flowers are pretty.
At Byeolbaram Hill, 900m above sea level,
the sight of giant wind turbines and vibrant purple aster flowers
creating a landscape together was truly impressive.
It's a combination you don't often see in a typical flower garden,
so Gamaksan definitely has its own unique vibe.
You can enjoy the panoramic view from the observatory,
or take photos with the wind turbines as your backdrop right from within the flower fields. Both are fantastic!
Byeolkkot Market Fish Cakes on a Chilly Day

A Byeolkkot Market was also open on one side of the festival grounds.
My family and I were enjoying the flower viewing when we decided to grab some snacks.
We bought some warm fish cakes (eomuk),
and perhaps because it was a cloudy and chilly day, they tasted even more delicious!

Based on last year's festival when I visited,
one skewer of fish cake was ~$1.
The types of food and prices might change this year,
so please only use this as a reference for that time.
This year, in addition to the Flower & Star Market,
there will be local food and agricultural specialties for sale,
busking performances, other shows, a stamp tour, and more.
They say a variety of exciting activities will be running!
In the evenings, there will be media facade projections
and starlight illuminations,
so you can expect a completely different atmosphere from the daytime.
