For me, traveling with a child means prioritizing travel time and places they'll genuinely love, rather than just ticking off as many sightseeing spots as possible.

This time, I'll put together a 3-night, 4-day itinerary that explores Fukuoka, Beppu, and Yufuin by rental car, focusing on places our little ones will absolutely adore – think African Safari, the aquarium, Sanrio Harmony Land, and even the Anpanman Children's Museum!

1. Why Fukuoka & Beppu Are Perfect

Fukuoka is fantastic for a first overseas trip with a baby because the flight time from Korea is short, and the city center is super close to the airport. Plus, having a rental car makes it easy to explore further, extending your adventure to Beppu and Yufuin.

Beppu, in particular, boasts numerous places where kids can get up close with animals and have a blast, like African Safari, Umitamago Aquarium, and Takasakiyama Natural Zoological Garden. And if you add Sanrio Harmony Land and the Anpanman Children's Museum to the mix, you'll have exciting spots that aren't just for adults, but places your little ones will eagerly anticipate visiting every single day!

2. Our 3-Night, 4-Day Itinerary Including Yufuin

When you're traveling with kids, it's often best to pick one main spot for the morning and another for the afternoon, rather than trying to squeeze in too many sights. Our itinerary has you heading to Beppu for the first two nights, then exploring Yufuin on Day 3 before returning to Fukuoka for your final night.

There are two exciting ways to experience African Safari.

The My Car Safari allows you to drive through the safari zone in your rental car, and this course is included in your basic admission. For a more interactive experience, you can hop on the Jungle Bus and enjoy feeding animals like elephants, bears, and lions directly from the bus! Just note, the Jungle Bus costs an extra fee on top of your general admission.

4. Umitamago Aquarium

Here's the operating information for the Umitamago Aquarium in Beppu and the Takasakiyama Natural Zoological Garden, which is right across the street.

Upon entering in the morning, it's a great idea to catch the Umitama Performance and Dolphin Show back-to-back, then check out the penguins and enjoy the indoor play area, before heading over to the Takasakiyama Natural Zoological Garden across the pedestrian bridge.

The operating hours for Takasakiyama Natural Zoological Garden, located across the street from Umitamago Aquarium, are listed below. You can use either the aquarium's parking lot or the one near the zoological garden. There's no need to move your car between visiting the aquarium and the zoological garden!

5. Sanrio Harmony Land

Not only in Korea, but you'll also notice at Tokyo Disneyland and Universal Studios Japan in Osaka, that ride requirements for attractions are typically "height restrictions." But here's a cool thing about Sanrio Harmony Land: their boarding conditions are based on age, not height!

Since most attractions are available for children aged 3 and up, I think it's an absolutely perfect theme park to visit with young kids.

Plus, all the Sanrio characters that kids adore!! (Kuromi, Harmony Land Kitty, etc.)

Admission is the same price for ages 4 and up, but it varies from 3,600 JPY to 4,200 JPY depending on the day of your visit. But what if you buy online in advance? 6. Anpanman Children's Museum & Park

Located in downtown Fukuoka, the Anpanman Children's Museum & Park is an incredibly fun indoor play area, especially perfect for preschoolers. There's a wide variety of activities to enjoy for everyone from toddlers to kindergarteners and even early elementary students, but the absolute highlight is definitely catching an Anpanman show!

Beyond that, you can enjoy active pursuits (like kicking balls, jumping, net play, and slides) as well as more static activities (such as sand play and role-playing), making it a space that caters to a wide range of children's preferences and needs.

You can certainly buy tickets on-site, but the ticket counters can sometimes get quite crowded, leading to a bit of a wait. 7. Recommended Accommodation Locations

For this 3-night, 4-day adventure, it's a brilliant idea to split your accommodation with 2 nights in Beppu and the final night in Fukuoka.

When traveling with a little one, moving accommodations every single day can be surprisingly exhausting! You'll find yourself constantly repacking everything from suitcases and strollers to all their gear. It's much more convenient to head to Beppu on the first day, settle into the same hotel for 2 nights, explore Yufuin on day 3, and then gracefully make your way back to Fukuoka.

For your stay in Beppu, you absolutely won't regret choosing either Onyado Nono Beppu or Amanek Beppu YURARI, both perfectly situated near Beppu Station.

Onyado Nono offers the delightful experience of a ryokan-style accommodation where you can soak in wonderful hot springs and even enjoy late-night ramen. For your last night, staying near Hakata Station is absolutely perfect. On the third day, after returning your rental car near Hakata, you can dive into some city exploration and then effortlessly hop on an airport bus that takes you directly to the airport.
