If you are planning a trip to Fukuoka, one landmark that should absolutely be on your itinerary is the iconic Fukuoka Tower.

I have actually visited this spot twice—once during the day and once at night—and I was surprised by how much the vibe shifts depending on the hour.

During the day, you get crisp, clear views of the sparkling ocean and the sprawling cityscape. At night, the tower transforms into a romantic, glowing observatory that is perfect for couples and night owls alike.

How to Get to Fukuoka Tower

Fukuoka Tower is located right by the beautiful Momochi Seaside Park.

Since there is no direct subway line connecting the tower to central hubs like Hakata or Tenjin, taking the local bus is by far the most convenient option.

From Hakata Station: Take Bus No. 302, 306, or 312 (approx. 25-minute ride).

Tickets & Booking Hacks

While you can easily buy tickets at the physical counter, booking your tickets online in advance is highly recommended.

When I compared the prices, booking online was noticeably cheaper than buying them on-site.

Prices can fluctuate slightly depending on exchange rates and platform-specific promotions, so it is a good idea to compare a couple of sites before locking it in.

To save a bit of cash and avoid waiting in line, I opted for an online pre-booking platform, which made the whole process seamless.

Entering the Tower

Once you book online, you will receive a QR code via email or your booking app.

When you arrive, simply show the QR code at the ticket window to redeem your pass. It is incredibly quick and hassle-free.

If you do choose to purchase tickets on-site, the counter accepts both credit cards and cash.

However, because online rates are almost always more favorable, taking five minutes to book on your phone beforehand is the smarter move.

Pro Tip: There are no restrooms up on the observation deck. Make sure to use the facilities on the 1st floor before taking the elevator up!

Fukuoka Tower: Day vs. Night

For my daytime visit, I went around 2:00 PM.

The visibility was fantastic, offering a crystal-clear look at the ocean, the shoreline, and the surrounding neighborhoods. It is great for geographic orientation, but it does feel like a standard tourist observatory during these hours.

Nighttime, however, is a completely different story.

Once the sun sets, the city lights spark to life, creating a magical and romantic atmosphere. It is definitely more crowded, but the energy is incredible.

While the daytime is perfect for clean, bright photos, the night view feels much more memorable and romantic.

If you only plan to visit once, the ultimate sweet spot is golden hour.

Aim to arrive about 30 to 60 minutes before sunset. This way, you can catch the daytime coastal views, watch a stunning sunset over the ocean, and see the city light up for the night—all on a single ticket!

There is also a restaurant located one floor below the observation deck.

It is a lovely spot to enjoy a dessert while taking in the views, but keep in mind there is a seating fee of 300 JPY (approx. $2) per person, which is why I decided to skip it.

Right outside the tower lies Momochi Seaside Park.

Even though it is an artificial beach, the European-inspired coastal architecture is incredibly charming and makes for fantastic photos.

I recommend strolling along the beach, grabbing a quick snack, and then heading up the tower. The entire experience takes about an hour and a half and makes for a perfect afternoon itinerary.

After your visit, make sure to look back up at the tower from the beach to see the stunning exterior illuminations.

The light displays change according to the season and holidays. Fun fact: you can actually pay a fee to customize the light patterns, making it a highly popular spot for wedding proposals!

While Fukuoka Tower is beautiful by day, the night view is what truly steals the show.

If you are fitting this into your itinerary, aim for sunset to experience the best of both worlds.

Pairing the tower with a relaxing stroll along Momochi Seaside Park is a brilliant way to spend 1.5 hours in Fukuoka.
