I recommend starting by defining your travel goals.
I've stayed in Hakata, Nakasu, and Tenjin, and
if shopping is a high priority for you, Tenjin was definitely the most convenient.
Oriental Express Fukuoka Tenjin Hotel
From the rooms to breakfast and amenities,
I'll share my firsthand experience here!
1. Fukuoka Accommodation Location
When considering where to stay in Fukuoka,
your main options will likely be Hakata, Nakasu, or Tenjin.
📌 Hakata
· Excellent accessibility to the airport
· Has a bus terminal and is a common meeting point for bus tours to nearby areas,
making it great for considering day trips to places like Yufuin
📌 Nakasu
· Close to the yatai (food stall) street, perfect for enjoying late nights out
· Can be a bit noisy depending on your accommodation's exact location
📌 Tenjin
· Home to Don Quijote, Tenjin Underground Mall,
and Daimyo Street, where all the shopping spots are concentrated and easily accessible
On this trip, I decided to dedicate one whole day to shopping,
so I chose accommodation in Fukuoka's Tenjin area, close to Daimyo.
It was surprisingly convenient to be able to drop off my shopping bags in the room
whenever they got too heavy and head back out!
With the subway station just a 4-minute walk away,
it was incredibly easy to get around to tourist attractions by subway.
2. Oriental Express Tenjin
The Hotel Oriental Express Fukuoka Tenjin offers various room types,
including Standard Double, Corner Double, and Superior Twin rooms.
The room I stayed in was a Corner Double, and at 18㎡,
it felt quite spacious.
(The bed was surprisingly large, easily comfortable for two.)
The bathroom had a bathtub
and was generally well-maintained and clean.
When I booked, even about a week before my stay,
I was able to reserve a room for just over ~$69 per night.
(Significantly cheaper than the Oriental Hotel in Hakata.)

3. Corner Double Room Review
Check-in was from 3 PM,
and check-out was by 11 AM.
Welcome white wine is available in the lobby until 10 PM,
so feel free to help yourself! 😊
When I opened the door to my Corner Double room,
I was immediately impressed by the surprisingly spacious entry area.
I was a bit worried it might be cramped, given the typical size of accommodations in Fukuoka, Japan, but
can you see how wide the corridor space is?! Wow!
Our room even had an LG Styler,
and wow, it turned out to be incredibly useful during our trip!!
After indulging in yakiniku and motsunabe,
our clothes would have that lingering savory smell.
But just running the Styler before bed meant
they were fresh and ready to wear again the next day!
Our room came with essential amenities like hand wash, body wash,
shampoo, and conditioner.
For disposable amenities like toothbrushes, toothpaste, and cotton swabs,
you could pick them up from the lobby as needed.
The hotel hairdryer had surprisingly good power,
so there was no need to bring our own – it worked perfectly!
The mini-fridge was also spacious enough for puddings and drinks.
Under the TV, you'll find disposable slippers and pajamas.
Plus, there's an electric kettle, perfect for those late-night cup noodles
or corn soup cravings – a truly thoughtful touch!
4. Breakfast & Facilities
Breakfast, if added on-site, costs ¥2,600.
(Breakfast Hours: 7:00 AM - 10:30 AM)
Currently, booking with breakfast included on Trip.com
is actually cheaper than Agoda!
I had booked it with breakfast from the start,
and it was the perfect way to enjoy our last morning before heading to the airport.
The breakfast spread offers a delightful mix of Western and Japanese home-style dishes.
While it might not have the sheer variety of a 5-star hotel,
there were plenty of substantial and delicious options to choose from!
Think Fukuoka's famous mentaiko (spicy pollack roe), Japanese rolled omelet (tamagoyaki),
grilled salmon, and so much more!
(I'll be dedicating a separate post to the breakfast buffet, so stay tuned!)
On the 3rd floor, you'll find a fantastic lounge equipped with a microwave, coffee machine,
and various vending machines.
It's open from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM,
and if you're looking for a more spacious spot to work on your laptop than your room,
this lounge is definitely the more comfortable option.
They even had a laundry room with coin-operated machines,
and an ice water dispenser was also available here.
You can store your luggage self-service in the lobby.
Being able to leave our suitcases and do some last-minute shopping around Tenjin and Daimyo Street was fantastic –
no need to lug heavy bags around!
Tip: If you want to check your luggage weight
just ask a staff member, and they'll happily weigh your suitcase for you.
If you're planning to do a lot of shopping in Fukuoka,
I'd definitely recommend staying in the Tenjin area again!
Especially if your goal is shopping in Daimyo Street and Tenjin,
and you want to cover both prime location and great value,
I wholeheartedly recommend Oriental Express Fukuoka Tenjin!
