Our Personal Recommendations
It's no exaggeration to say that a trip to Japan often feels like a culinary pilgrimage, with an endless array of delicious dishes to discover. During my most recent Fukuoka adventure in 2026, I explored everything from popular spots frequented by international visitors to hidden local gems. Today, I'm excited to share a curated list of my top recommendations from that trip!
Motomura Gyukatsu Parco Branch
📍 Gyukatsu Motomura Fukuoka Parco Branch
Japan 〒810-0001 Fukuoka, Chuo Ward, Tenjin, 2 Chome−11−1 福岡パルコ新館 B2F B202区画
Operating Hours: Daily 11:00 AM - 11:00 PM
Reservations: Not available

Motomura Gyukatsu is famous for its incredible wait times! There are two branches in Tenjin: the main branch and the Parco branch. The Tenjin main branch offers a digital waiting system, allowing you to explore nearby while you wait for your turn. However, the Parco branch requires you to queue physically on-site.

On this particular day, my itinerary led me to Tenjin Station, so I opted for the Parco branch. I arrived at 11:30 AM on a weekday and was seated exactly one hour later.

The gyukatsu here is served quite rare, with a beautiful pink hue. Each table has a personal grilling stone, allowing you to cook your beef to your preferred doneness.

The flavor was absolutely incredible – incredibly tender, bursting with juicy flavor, and without any gamey aftertaste. I'm not usually a huge gyukatsu fan, but this was the first time I truly felt it was delicious!
Sabatarō
📍 Sabatarō
Japan 〒810-0042 Fukuoka, Chuo Ward, Akasaka, 1 Chome−5−11 アバンダント89
Operating Hours: Breakfast 7:30 AM - 9:30 AM; Lunch 11:30 AM - 3:00 PM
Credit cards accepted
Reservations required, no walk-ins

Sabatarō is renowned for its delicious Japanese home-style cuisine. It's a popular spot not just with international tourists but also with local residents.

This restaurant serves elegant Japanese set meals from morning through lunchtime. Everything from the grilled mackerel to the various side dishes was absolutely delightful. While it's home-style, so not necessarily groundbreaking, the flavors are incredibly fresh and harmoniously balanced.

While some might find the prices a bit on the higher side, I was thoroughly satisfied and will definitely be returning on my next Fukuoka trip!
Rakutenchi Imaizumi Main Store (Motsunabe)
📍 Motsunabe Rakutenchi Imaizumi Main Store
Japan 〒810-0021 Fukuoka, Chuo Ward, Imaizumi, 1 Chome−19−18 楽天地ビル 2階
Operating Hours: Daily 5:00 PM - 12:00 AM
Reservations: Available via Google Maps, TableLog, Hot Pepper

You can't talk about Fukuoka without mentioning Motsunabe! This iconic dish, representative of Fukuoka, features beef or pork offal (intestines), chives, and other vegetables simmered in a savory broth.
I visited the Rakutenchi main branch, which is quite popular with locals, but honestly, you'll find delicious motsunabe at most establishments throughout the city.

I've heard some reviews mention the offal here can be tough, but I didn't find that to be the case at all. The ingredients were well-infused with the broth, making it incredibly flavorful. The broth, in particular, was unbelievably rich and deep – I'd go back just for that amazing soup!
Kurashiki Coffee (Lalaport Fukuoka Branch)
📍 Kurashiki Coffee Lalaport Fukuoka Branch
Japan 〒812-8627 Fukuoka, Hakata Ward, Naka, 6 Chome−23−1 ららぽーと福岡店 2F
Operating Hours: Daily 10:00 AM - 9:00 PM

Located in the Lalaport department store near Hakata Station, Kurashiki Coffee caught my eye because of its unique flask-served coffee. And to my surprise, the coffee was exceptionally good!

Their signature Siphon Coffee, extracted using steam pressure, results in a remarkably clean and smooth taste. It has almost no bitterness, making it enjoyable even for someone like me who doesn't typically drink much coffee.

The quality of their food, including tonkatsu, sandwiches, and curry, is also quite impressive. If you're planning a visit to Lalaport, it's a fantastic spot to grab lunch and enjoy a superb cup of coffee!
That wraps up my personal recommendations for Fukuoka's best restaurants. I hope you have a wonderful and delicious trip!
