Fukuoka Solo Trip 3-Day Itinerary 2026: City & Day Trip Costs

With summer vacation just around the corner, many people are planning trips to Fukuoka, Japan.

Today, I'm going to share a detailed itinerary and expenses for a

3-night, 4-day trip to Fukuoka, which I took solo as a female traveler.

This itinerary perfectly blends both shopping and sightseeing, from the city center to nearby excursions!

Fukuoka, a vibrant city in Japan's Kyushu region, is an ideal gateway for your first trip to Japan, thanks to its convenient proximity between the airport and the city center.

With shopping, incredible restaurants, and excellent transportation concentrated around Hakata and Tenjin, you can enjoy a rich and fulfilling experience even on a short itinerary.

Rivers and the sea flow through the city, allowing you to immerse yourself in Fukuoka's unique laid-back atmosphere, from the Nakasu street stalls to Momochi Beach.

Airport to City Center

When traveling from Fukuoka Airport to the city center,

your transportation options will vary depending on whether you're heading to Hakata Station or Tenjin Station.

In Fukuoka, you can reach most tourist attractions via public transport,

but you'll likely find yourself taking the bus much more often than the subway.

If your itinerary involves taking the bus 4-5 times or more,

🔻When using Fukuoka's subway, if you tap in and out with a contactless payment card, even if your daily fare exceeds 640 JPY, you will only be charged a maximum of 640 JPY. However, you must use the same card for all transactions!

Day 1 Itinerary

Since I arrived on a late-night flight, the first place I headed was Canal City.

It's a multi-purpose shopping complex famous for its fountain shows,

which take place every hour on the hour and at 30 minutes past the hour.

If you time your visit for the top of the hour, you'll see the water jets dance beautifully to the music – it's truly stunning!

Ramen Stadium, which gathers various famous ramen restaurants, is also well-known, but unfortunately, it was closed when I visited.

So, I went to Ichiran Ramen for dinner instead.

I totally understood why it's so popular among Koreans...

If you come to Japan, you absolutely have to try Ichiran Ramen at least once!

Next to the fountain on the basement floor, you'll find a Jump Store, Ghibli Shop, souvenir shops, and many other places to browse.

It's perfect for exploring while waiting for the fountain show!

Near Canal City is the Nakasu River, where I visited the

street stall area (Yatai) that operates from 6 PM until 2 AM.

There were far more locals than tourists – it seems like everyone comes here after work for a relaxing beer!

Day 2 Travel Itinerary

Our first stop on Day 2 was Parco Department Store!

First things first, we headed to Motomura Gyukatsu at Parco, one of their signature restaurants,

and after about an hour of waiting, we finally had lunch.

Even though I'm not usually a huge fan of gyukatsu, it was surprisingly delicious!

Though I'm not entirely sure if it was worth an hour-long wait, to be honest.

Inside Parco Department Store, you'll find tons of character stores featuring favorites like Crayon Shin-chan, Snoopy, Rilakkuma,

Sailor Moon, One Piece, Chiikawa, and many more.

Seriously, there are so many! It took me about 2 hours just to browse through them all.

Beyond the character shops, there are also plenty of souvenir stores selling things like ramen, cookies, and bread,

making it a great spot to pick up some gifts!

Next up, we hopped on a bus and headed to Momochi Beach.

It's a bit further out from the city center,

but it's definitely a must-visit spot if you're in Fukuoka!

I arrived around 6:30 PM, just in time for sunset,

and let me tell you, the sunset and the beach were absolutely stunning then!

While it's lovely during the day, I personally recommend timing your visit

to catch the magical sunset!

Right across from the beach stands the magnificent Fukuoka Tower.

After snapping tons of photos at Momochi Beach,

we ascended to the observation deck to soak in the incredible night views.

When I went up to the tower's observation deck around 7:10 PM,

I was treated to both the last lingering glow of sunset and the twinkling city lights!

Even if you're traveling solo, the staff are super friendly and will happily take your picture at the photo zones.

We wrapped up Day 2 near Tenjin Station

by indulging in some delicious Motsunabe!

There's also a Don Quijote nearby, so after your meal,

you can do some shopping to help digest your food!

I tried Motsunabe at Rakutenchi Imaizumi Main Branch, but honestly,

I think motsunabe is delicious pretty much anywhere you go in Fukuoka.

Day 3 Travel Itinerary

If you're in Fukuoka, a trip to Yufuin is an absolute must!

These tours are perfectly enjoyable even if you're traveling solo,

and since everything is done by bus,

it wasn't physically strenuous at all.

From Yufuin, with its distinct Japanese charm,

to the stunning sky-blue waters of Kamado Jigoku Hot Spring – every moment was picture-perfect!

While a one-night stay is ideal for truly soaking it all in,

a 3-night, 4-day trip makes that a bit tricky,

so I highly recommend a day trip bus tour!

Day 4 Travel Itinerary

Our first meal on Day 4 was at 'Sabatarou,'

a Japanese home-style restaurant.

It's super popular, so you definitely need to make a reservation in advance,

and while the prices aren't cheap, it was hands down

the best meal I had in Fukuoka!

Next, we moved to the Japanese Garden located south of Ohori Park.

On the hour, mist is sprayed, giving it a mystical feel,

and combined with the refreshing vibe unique to Japanese summers,

it's a place that makes you feel good just by walking around.

It can be quite hot, but you can definitely capture some 'life-shot' photos (aka Instagram-worthy pics) here!

Since the subway station is to the north, we dropped by the

Ohori Park Starbucks and checked out the paddle boats on our way.

The final stop on our Day 4 itinerary was LaLaport Department Store.

It's super close to Fukuoka Airport, making it a great place to spend some time.

It's also famous for its life-sized Gundam statue,

which performs a simple moving show every hour on the dot.

They say if you come in the evening, you can even see it shooting lasers!

As a department store, LaLaport has everything from various character shops

to daily necessities and souvenirs – you name it, they have it!

I spent over three hours there and still couldn't see everything.

There's also a huge variety of duty-free alcohol available.

Much more than what you'd find at Fukuoka Airport's duty-free shop.

On the second floor, there's a cafe called Kurashiki Coffee.

They also serve food, so I had lunch here.

What was interesting was that the coffee came in a flask, you know?

It's called siphon coffee, and I was curious, so I decided to check it out.

The food was pretty standard, but the coffee was delicious.

I'm not a coffee connoisseur, but it had this subtle,

addictive quality that made me want to keep drinking it.

It's not a must-visit, but if you love coffee,

it's definitely worth trying out at least once.

These are the travel expenses for a solo female traveler over a 2-night, 3-day trip.

Since I traveled in the summer, the weather made me

take a lot of taxis, so transportation costs were quite high...
