A trip to Japan isn't complete without a visit to a Pokémon Center!

I recently heard the Fukuoka branch underwent a major renovation and relocation, so I had to check it out myself!

Previously located on the 8th floor of Marui Department Store, it has now moved to the 2nd floor of Hakata Marui, significantly expanding and improving its accessibility. This new spot is so much easier to get to!

Store Atmosphere & Best Time to Visit

We visited around noon on a weekday and were able to walk right in without any waiting. The renovation clearly made the space much larger, with merchandise displayed right from the entrance, making it super easy to browse as you follow the flow.

It feels like they put a lot more thought into the layout than before, making it a fantastic spot for Pokémon fans and families with kids.

Game Zone (Pokémon Frenda)

On one side of the store, there's a dedicated area to enjoy some games. This features the newly released Pokémon Frenda. Since it's been out for a little while now, we didn't have to wait to play when we visited.

Giant Photo Zone

As soon as you step into the Pokémon Center, your eyes will be drawn to the massive photo zone! Featuring Latias and Latios, the beloved mascots of the Fukuoka branch, visitors were lining up to snap memorable pictures here.

Must-See Merchandise Highlights

This was personally my favorite section! When I was a kid, everyone loved Pikachu, Charmander, and Squirtle, but I always had a soft spot for Slowpoke, Psyduck, and Snorlax. My interest was piqued, though the prices kept my wallet firmly shut.

The wall filled with Eevee illustrations and a variety of plushies for each of its evolutions definitely sparked some serious shopping urges! The Eevee handbags and pouches, in particular, seemed to be incredibly popular.

Fukuoka Exclusive Merchandise

If you're visiting the Fukuoka branch, you absolutely cannot miss the Fukuoka-exclusive merchandise: Pikachu holding ramen!

From Pikachu plushies collaborating with the famous ramen brand Ippudo to ramen bowls featuring Pikachu and even full gift sets, the variety was surprisingly diverse. While a bit pricey, it's a unique souvenir and certainly more affordable than a luxury designer item, so I grabbed one myself!

Past the Pikachu section, you'll find a long display of Pokémon plush toys, and I was thrilled to see so many 1st generation Pokémon! (You can probably guess my age from that, right?)

Prices for these plushies varied from 1,300 to 1,600 yen.

This area featured the Moncolle (figure) corner and Pokémon Gacha machine merchandise that you could use for play at home.

I really wanted some of the Gacha machine goods, but sadly, I just don't have the space at home, so I had to pass.

There were also affordable stationery items perfect for gifts, so I picked one up for my niece!

Next up was the B-SIDE LABEL sticker corner. These are great for journaling or decorating, and since they're relatively inexpensive, they make for perfect light souvenirs.

The final section showcased Pokémon Nano Block merchandise. The red packages at the top contain mini blind (random) types, so you never know which Pokémon you'll get! The blue boxes below are character-specific assembly kits.

Checkout & Tax-Free Status

After exploring all the awesome goods, it's time to check out. Even with a large crowd, there were multiple registers open, so the lines moved quickly.

As indicated by the sign, unfortunately, tax exemption is not available here, so keep that in mind when planning your shopping!

Even if you're not a huge Pokémon enthusiast, it's worth a visit just for the nostalgia of seeing your childhood favorites.

Since it's conveniently located near Hakata Station and Kaldi, I highly recommend stopping by for a look!
