If you're exploring family-friendly spots near Fukuoka,
Marine World Aquarium is bound to pop up on your radar!
Plus, if the weather forecast predicts rain,
it's the perfect indoor escape.
We even visited on a rainy day ourselves!
I'll cover everything you need to know: Marine World admission prices, how to get there,
the times for the thrilling penguin and dolphin shows,
and even a suggested route for families with kids!
(Oh, and I'll also share tips on how to book your tickets at a great price!)
1. Getting to Fukuoka Marine World

Marine World isn't right in the heart of Fukuoka city;
it's nestled on the scenic Uminonakamichi peninsula.
📌 Ways to Get to Fukuoka Marine World
1) By Train
· Transfer at Kashii Station from Hakata Station
· Approximately 40 minutes to Uminonakamichi Station
· A quick 5-minute walk from the station to the aquarium
2) By Ferry
· From Bayside Place Hakata,
the Uminaka Line ferry takes about 20 minutes.
3) By Bus
· From the Tenjin/Nakasu areas, there are direct buses,
making the bus a highly recommended option.

On the day we visited, there was a rain forecast,
so we planned our travel route excluding the ferry option.
They say ferries can sometimes be canceled if it's rainy and windy,
so we played it safe!

We opted for the train from Hakata Station on our way there,
and then caught a bus back towards the Nakasu/Tenjin area.
📌 Detailed Route: Hakata Station to Uminonakamichi Marine World
From Hakata Station, hop on the JR Kagoshima Main Line to Kashii Station,
then transfer to the Kashii Line,
and you'll get off at Uminonakamichi Station.
Pretty much everyone transferring at Kashii Station
will likely be heading to Marine World, so you can simply follow the crowd!
It's super easy!
2. Marine World Admission Prices

📌 Fukuoka Marine World Operating Hours
9:30 AM - 5:30 PM
Last admission at 4:30 PM
📌 Marine World Standard Ticket Prices
· Adults/High School Students 2,500 JPY
· Toddlers (3 years and older) 700 JPY
· Children under 3: Free
While you can purchase tickets on-site,
buying online is usually more affordable!
❌ We don't recommend buying tickets on-site, as you'll have to queue twice:
once to buy the ticket and again to enter.

Just as a tip, I booked my tickets on MyRealTrip
together with a Fukuoka bus tour,
and thanks to tour package discounts combined with credit card promotions,
the price ended up being even lower than buying the admission ticket separately!
Bundling tours and admission tickets on the same platform
can often unlock these kinds of combined discounts.
So before booking them individually, always check for bundle deals!

Admission fees apply from 3 years old.
Since age is calculated by international age, our second child, who is under 36 months old,
was able to enter for free.
You can purchase tickets on the same day,
but it can be hectic with all the moving around on the day of your visit,
so I highly recommend buying them in advance, at least by the day before.
It was also super convenient to avoid queuing at the on-site ticket counter upon arrival and
just enter directly with the QR code.
When you make a reservation, you'll receive a voucher, and there's no need to exchange it.
You can just show it directly to the staff member.
(The staff member needs to press the entry button.)
When traveling to Fukuoka, Japan, I always end up using an eSIM.
Right now, MyRealTrip (마리트) is offering a 50% discount on eSIMs!

3. Marine World Dolphin Show Schedule

The most popular attraction at Marine World is
the Dolphin and Sea Lion Show.
📌 Dolphin & Sea Lion Show Schedule
· 1st Show 11:00
· 2nd Show 13:30
· 3rd Show 15:30
We watched the 2nd show.
I heard that arriving 10-15 minutes beforehand is usually enough,
but when we arrived 15 minutes early, there were no seats left ㅠㅠ.
Luckily, someone kindly gave up a bit of their space,
so we were able to sit down and watch.
As autumn is peak season, it can get even more crowded,
so I recommend arriving 20 minutes early to secure your seats.

The front rows have orange seats, and the rows behind them have blue seats.
If you sit in the front, you might get (very) splashed with water.
If you don't like getting wet, I suggest sitting further back~
Honestly, when I was planning our Fukuoka itinerary and looking for places to visit,
Marine World wasn't initially high on my priority list.
But after watching the dolphin and sea lion shows,
I felt like it was an excellent addition to our schedule.
Even as an adult, I found it incredibly entertaining,
and the kids were completely captivated,
watching intently without taking their eyes off the show.

There were many young children, but also lots of people bringing elementary and middle school kids,
and I even saw quite a few couples on dates.

Also, Marine World doesn't just have dolphin shows!
I recommend watching the 'Island Talk' first,
and then the main dolphin show. It's highly recommended!
You can see the dolphins really up close,
and while it's not quite the main show, it's still a lot of fun to watch.
However! At the end, if they say 'presento~' or something similar,
quickly move as far back as you can..
You'll get soaked! Haha.
(Everything was in Japanese, so I was wondering if they were giving out gifts for a quiz...)

📌 Fukuoka Marine World Show Schedule
· GOGO Sea Lion Show 10:40
· Ocean Tank Feeding Show 11:45 / 13:00 / 15:00
· Penguin Parade 12:20
· Island Talk 12:40
· Goodnight Penguin 16:10
We arrived around 12 PM, watched the penguin parade,
then the dolphin training show,
then the large outdoor tank, and then went to see the main dolphin show.
The timing worked out perfectly! Haha.
Instead, it's a good idea to leave the large outdoor tank feeding show
a little before it ends, rather than watching the whole thing.

The kids also loved the penguin parade.
You can see them much closer than the dolphin show,
so even my 3-year-old sibling stayed focused and watched it all the way through.
I recommend arriving a bit early for the penguin show too, to get a good spot.
4. Review of Uminonakamichi Marine World with Kids

We had a hearty hotel breakfast before we left,
so we pretty much skipped lunch and just had snacks.
If I were to go again with kids,
I'd arrive before 11 AM to explore the tanks first,
watch the penguin parade at 12:20 PM,
have lunch at the indoor restaurant,
then find a spot for the main dolphin show and watch it.
That's how I'd plan the route!

After the shows, I'd slowly explore the rest of the aquarium.
Alternatively, I'd also recommend an itinerary where you watch
both the first and second dolphin shows.
For your information, you can eat simple snacks
while watching the dolphin show, so I thought it would be a good idea
to pack some snacks in advance.
If kids wait while eating snacks, they'll be able to wait patiently~
We went without even water... which made it a bit tough.
At the main show venue, they sell drinks and ice cream.
The indoor restaurant also sells meals like hamburgers!

Since it's indoors, it was a great option to include in our itinerary on a rainy day,
and it truly isn't a tourist spot affected by the weather, so we had a wonderful time with the kids.
On the way out, there's also a souvenir shop.
The prices seemed quite reasonable, more so than I expected (?).
We bought each of the kids a dolphin plushie, and I even snagged a dolphin key ring myself! Haha.
✔️ For those traveling to Fukuoka with kids
✔️ For those looking for places to visit in Fukuoka on a rainy day
✔️ For those who want to see a dolphin show
I highly recommend Uminonakamichi Marine World!
It seems the admission ticket prices vary slightly depending on the exchange rate,
so please enter your visit date to check the exact price.
