Fukuoka Lopia Supermarket Review 2026: Fresh Sushi & Local Finds
Explore Lopia Hakata, a favorite local supermarket in Fukuoka, for incredible value on fresh sushi and authentic Japanese snacks. Perfect for travelers seeking real local flavor!

If someone asked me where I visited most often during my trip to Fukuoka,
most people would probably guess Tenjin, Canal City,
or a famous ramen spot.
But surprisingly, the place I frequented was Lopia,
located on the 4th floor of Yodobashi Camera next to Hakata Station.
While I’ve had plenty of convenience store food in Japan before,
I had never tried the sushi or sashimi sold at a supermarket.
So, with the intention of trying supermarket food this time,
I visited Lopia on my first day, and ended up buying sushi there
for dinner on the remaining two nights of my trip.
The experience was so satisfying that I visited the same place
consecutively during my travels.

📍 Lopia Hakata Yodobashi
Japan 〒812-0012 Fukuoka, Hakata Ward, Hakataekichūōgai, 6−12 ヨドバシ博多 4F
Initially, I tried to find it just using Google Maps and walked around the entire Yodobashi building because I couldn't find the entrance.
Lopia's entrance isn't on the street, and there's no visible sign,
so
if it's your first time visiting, you need to go inside the Yodobashi building and take the escalator up to the 4th floor.
A Local Japanese Supermarket Where Locals Shop
As soon as I entered the supermarket,
the first thing that caught my eye was a tangerine sampling event.
They looked unripe, but after one bite, they were surprisingly sweet,
so I immediately grabbed the cheapest bag for my shopping cart.

Once inside, the supermarket was quite large.
They had everything: vegetables and fruits, of course,
but also meats, seafood, bread, cheese, milk, side dishes,
ready-to-eat meals, desserts, snacks, and even alcohol.
It felt like there was an even split between tourists and locals,
and it was fascinating to watch Japanese locals doing their evening grocery shopping with their carts.

Lopia Sushi Quality

What I was most excited about before coming to Lopia was the sushi, and the sushi counter looked surprisingly high-quality.
The display cases were filled with a wide variety of sushi and sashimi.
Prices ranged from approximately ~$6 to ~$10.
The selection included tuna, salmon, shrimp, white fish, and more, and the fish slices were quite thick.
I had expected decent quality for supermarket sushi, but
after taking it back to the hotel and trying it, I realized it would be difficult to find sushi of this composition and quality for the same price back home in the US.
That's why we "clocked in" at Lopia the next day, and the day after that,
enjoying different sushi and sashimi selections to our heart's content each evening.
A Must-Visit for Families and Long-Term Travelers

Past the sushi counter and further inside, you'll find the meat section, where the color and marbling of the beef looked incredibly appealing.
If we had been staying in an Airbnb or a residence hotel with kitchen facilities,
we definitely would have bought various cuts of meat to grill right away.
Beyond that, there was an endless array of food options: baked pizzas, karaage,
various Japanese side dishes, cheeses, puddings, and other desserts.
Since we were just two people staying in a standard hotel room,
our only regret was the limited amount we could buy and enjoy.
If you're traveling with family, including parents or children, or on a longer trip with cooking facilities,
you could easily enjoy a wonderful feast here.
Don't Visit Too Late
One thing to note is your visiting time.
On our first evening, we arrived around 6:30 PM, and many popular sushi selections were already gone.
While Japanese supermarkets sometimes put discount stickers on items late in the evening,
I personally recommend visiting a bit earlier to pick out your preferred items, rather than waiting for discount times.
Indeed, looking around the display cases, there were quite a few sold-out items,
and the next day, by visiting a little earlier, we were able to choose from a wider variety of sushi.
Tuna and other popular sushi combinations, in particular, seemed to sell out surprisingly quickly.
📝 In a Nutshell
A place in Fukuoka with outstanding sushi quality and value for money,
so good we bought dinner there two nights in a row.
