1. Visiting LaLaport Fukuoka

I recently took a trip to Fukuoka, Japan, with my beloved mom, relying on trains and buses to explore!
Fukuoka is overflowing with charming alleyways and delightful attractions, and for a fun half-day shopping spree, we decided to visit 'LaLaport Fukuoka'.

Since I was traveling with my mom, ensuring convenient transportation and a route that wouldn't tire us out was paramount. Japanese tourist spots tend to have high taxi fares, so we mostly relied on public transport.
Our accommodation for this Japan trip was near Hakata Station, so I'll share all the great tips for getting to LaLaport from Hakata Bus Terminal by bus, including round-trip travel! You won't want to miss the giant Gundam at the entrance!
2. How to Get to LaLaport Fukuoka (A Must-Visit Attraction!)

From Hakata Station, there are four ways to get to LaLaport.
Taxi
If you're traveling with 3 or more people or have a lot of luggage, taking a taxi is a good option. However, calling a taxi via Uber incurs an extra call fee. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes if you catch a taxi from one of the many taxi stands located around Hakata Station, and the fare is approximately 1,500 JPY.

Train + Walk
From Hakata Station, you can take a train on the JR Kagoshima Main Line, get off at Takeshita Station, and then walk to LaLaport. The train ride itself is only about 4 minutes, and the one-way fare is just 170 JPY. However, you'll need to walk for about 10 minutes from the station, so it's not recommended if the weather isn't great.
Walk
It's about 3 km (1.86 miles), which an average adult can walk in about 40 minutes. However, many visitors to Fukuoka have tight schedules, and since Fukuoka itself is a city where you walk a lot, this option can be quite demanding on your time and energy.

Bus
When LaLaport opened in 2022, new bus routes to LaLaport were introduced from various parts of Fukuoka.
Head to the 1st floor of Hakata Station Bus Terminal, where you'll find various routes connecting you to nearby areas, including Dazaifu.

Don't worry, there are staff members stationed throughout the terminal. Just tell them your destination, and they'll quickly guide you to the correct bus route for LaLaport and your boarding gate number.
I waited for about 5 minutes and took bus #46L from boarding gate #12 to LaLaport.
During a weekday lunchtime, it took about 20 minutes and cost 220 JPY one-way.

If you have a local bus card,
Just like in Korea, you'll need to tag your card
at the terminal when you get on and off.
If you're paying with cash,
grab a numbered ticket when you board, and then when you alight,
check the amount on the front screen that corresponds to your ticket number.
After confirming the amount, you can pay and exit the bus.

The day we visited was in the middle of a heatwave, so during peak afternoon,
even a few minutes outdoors felt like too much. Luckily,
the bus dropped us off at a shaded platform right in front of the shopping complex,
and there was an entrance directly into the mall.
This allowed us to minimize outdoor walking,
which meant my mom and I could get around comfortably,
a real blessing!

At the LaLaport Fukuoka bus stop, where you board and alight,
they even had luggage storage in various sizes, which is super convenient!
Keep that in mind if you're traveling with bags.
3. LaLaport's Must-See: The Gundam Photo Zone

LaLaport Fukuoka, which we reached by bus,
stands on the former site of a major agricultural and fishery wholesale market.
It's a massive, multi-complex shopping mall that's truly impressive!
It officially opened in April 2022,
and it holds special significance as the very first LaLaport in the Kyushu region.
The iconic symbol here is none other than
the life-sized RX-93ff v Nu Gundam!
It's a fantastic spot for adult Gundam fans,
and also perfect for families visiting with kids.
From 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM,
every hour on the dot,
you can witness Gundam's head and shoulders
move ever so slightly for about 2 minutes.
Then, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM,
every 30 minutes,
you can catch an incredible Gundam light show, featuring
projection mapping on the mall's exterior,
dazzling lights, and dynamic sound effects!

When you get off the bus and enter through the mall's side door,
you'll catch a glimpse of Gundam's back towards the main entrance.
If you want to see Gundam first,
you can simply walk straight along the outdoor path.

If you prefer to navigate inside the shopping mall,
head towards PAIN PATI, a popular bakery on the 1st floor,
and then exit through the main entrance directly in front of it to find Gundam.

After marveling at Gundam, you can explore the different floors.

with options like the massive LOPIA supermarket,
lifestyle and grocery stores such as Muji,
clothing brands like Uniqlo, GU, and Zara,
Gundam Park, a cinema, and a game center.
And don't forget the comfortable food court!
Spend a fantastic time at this pleasant indoor Fukuoka attraction,
and make the most of your visit!
4. How to Get Back to Hakata Station

After you've enjoyed your shopping and dining at LaLaport Fukuoka,
it's time to head back to Hakata Station.
Just make your way back to the dedicated bus platform
where you originally alighted.

If for any reason you find it difficult to locate the bus stop from inside the mall,
you can easily walk to the bus stop from in front of Gundam Park on the 1st floor,
right by the life-sized Gundam. Just keep that in mind!

From here, you can hop on whichever bus —
numbers 40, 44, or 45 — arrives first
to get to Hakata Station.
It can get pretty crowded around closing time at the mall,
so I'd recommend heading out a little earlier if you can!

Just follow the green guide line on the floor —
that's your cue for the Hakata direction,
so you can line up there.
Right next to it, the blue guide line is for the airport queue,
so if you're heading straight to the airport, keep that in mind
and enjoy your final bus ride!
5. Concluding Our Fukuoka Adventure in Japan

LaLaport Fukuoka, which I explored with my mom,
truly had it all! From diverse attractions and fantastic shopping to delicious eats,
everything was conveniently located under one roof. What really stood out
were the numerous benches dotted throughout the mall, making it a perfect
indoor Japanese destination where everyone, from kids to seniors, could comfortably take a break and relax.
When you're making your way back and forth between Hakata Station and the wonderful LaLaport Fukuoka,
just remember to keep an eye on those colorful guide lines on the floor!
Don't forget to marvel at the magnificent life-sized Gundam,
and of course, indulge in some truly satisfying shopping on your Japan adventure. Happy travels!
