Fukuoka Lalaport: Gundam, Dining, and Shopping

Location, Directions, and Must-Buy List

Lalaport Fukuoka is a fantastic shopping destination conveniently located near Fukuoka Airport and Hakata Station! It's home to a wide array of Japanese brands, delicious restaurants, lively game centers, and specialty stores like the Gundam and Lego shops, offering plenty of entertainment for everyone.

I made sure to stop by before my flight, enjoying a great meal and picking up a bunch of souvenirs.

Right at the entrance of Lalaport, you'll be greeted by a life-sized Gundam. Catch its short show every hour on the hour!

While the daytime shows are mostly limited to arm movements, the evening performances are far more spectacular, complete with laser effects!

Location

Lalaport is a bit outside the city center. It takes about 10 minutes by car or 25 minutes by bus from Hakata Station or Fukuoka Airport.

My recommendation? On your last day, take the bus from Hakata Station to Lalaport, then grab a taxi straight to the airport for convenience.

Gundam

The impressive Gundam stands proudly right in front of Lalaport's main entrance.

Seeing it tower slightly above the building gives you a real sense of its colossal scale, but it's even more magnificent in person!

Getting up close, especially from the side or back, really lets you appreciate the intricate details – it's just like it stepped right out of the anime!

On the 4th floor, you'll find Gundam Park, where you can browse and buy figures, merchandise, and other collectibles. If you're a fan, definitely take some time to explore!

Lalaport Shopping List

Kaldi Coffee Farm

My first stop for shopping was Kaldi Coffee Farm! On the 1st floor of Lalaport, you'll find a variety of stores, from supermarkets and Muji to Mister Donut, offering everything from food to household goods.

I bought a few types of coffee beans and teas as gifts. Even though the staff didn't speak English, they were incredibly helpful, using a translation app to recommend different coffee blends.

Lego Store

The Lego Store is located on the 3rd floor. While it's not massive, it has a surprisingly good selection, and you can even take advantage of tax-free shopping here.

3COINS

Head to the 2nd floor for 3COINS.

3COINS feels a bit more upscale than a typical ¥100 store like Daiso, offering items with a higher perceived quality, similar to some trendy home goods stores you might find back home.

Although the prices are a bit higher than Daiso, the quality definitely reflects it.

Jump Shop

The Jump Shop is on the 3rd floor. Honestly, Jump Shops are quite common in most major shopping malls across Japan, so you could easily skip this one if you're short on time.

However, this particular branch seemed to have a wider variety of merchandise.

Supermarket

Finally, don't miss the supermarket in the food section on the 1st floor. If you have time, it's definitely worth a visit.

You can buy most souvenirs here, from gift-worthy snacks to sake, and tax-free shopping is available. You'll even find Dassai 23, a popular sake among international visitors.

Dining Options

Restaurants and cafes are spread across the 1st to 3rd floors. The 3rd floor, with its expansive food court, naturally offers the most variety and tends to be the busiest.

I had lunch at 'Kurashiki Coffee' on the 2nd floor. I initially stopped because the coffee served in flasks looked intriguing, but it turned out to be a popular spot with a waiting line!

Despite being a coffee shop, they offer a full menu including tonkatsu, curry, and sandwiches, and everything was surprisingly delicious.

You absolutely must try their signature siphon coffee. I'm not usually a big coffee drinker, but I finished every drop of this one! It has a perfect balance of acidity, richness, and umami that is incredibly harmonious.

Tax-Free Shopping

Lastly, you can claim your tax refund at the information desk on the 1st floor. It's easy to find, located near the central plaza. Don't worry if you need assistance, as there are often English-speaking staff available.

I easily spent about 3 hours at Lalaport, completely losing track of time.

With plenty of comfortable sofas scattered throughout, it's a great place to relax and enjoy some leisurely shopping.

I highly recommend Lalaport Fukuoka as a must-visit spot on your next trip!
