Fukuoka Family Hotels: 5 Tatami Room Stays for Kids
Planning a Fukuoka trip with little ones? Discover 5 fantastic tatami room hotels perfect for families, ensuring a safe and authentic Japanese experience.

Traveling Fukuoka with Kids
If you're traveling with young children, just like our family,
the biggest concern is, of course, accommodation.

Baby crib rentals are typically only available for infants under one,
and bed guards are usually only offered one per room,
and even then, they don't always cover the entire side of the bed,
leaving a risk of falls.
In such cases, when traveling in Japan,
a fantastic option is a room with a tatami mat area.

That's why I've done all the research for you!
Fukuoka Accommodations for Families of 4
featuring Tatami Rooms
If you're in the midst of planning your trip,
these recommendations below should help you choose the perfect hotel!
I've compiled all the info into a table at the end,
so if you're short on time, you can just check that out!
1. Montan Hakata Hostel

I've actually stayed here myself and was very satisfied –
Montan Hakata Hostel!
It offers great value for money and has tatami rooms,
making it consistently popular with families traveling with children.

You can spread out futons and sleep soundly without any worries about falls
in their typical tatami rooms, perfect for four people.
It's just a 10-minute walk from Hakata Station,
and the path is easy enough to navigate on foot.
However, if you're struggling with luggage and a stroller,
I recommend taking a taxi.

During the off-season and weekdays, a night here is typically around ~$74.
It's a fantastic budget-friendly option,
so weekend bookings fill up quickly.
If your travel dates are set, be sure to book right away!
2. Rof Hotel Tenjin South Fukuoka

Showcasing a peaceful, nature-infused interior,
the Rof Hotel Tenjin truly shines.
As a newly built 4-star hotel opened this year,
it feels noticeably fresh and comfortable compared to older options.
It's an 8-minute walk from Tenjin-Minami Station,
and also 8 minutes from Canal City, making it close to major attractions.

Family rooms are designed with a combination of beds and tatami areas,
so the kids can sleep on the tatami,
while parents can enjoy a good night's sleep on the beds.
Best of all, the rooms are quite spacious at 30m²!

This hotel also offers unlimited alcohol
at its lounge,
making it the perfect spot to wind down after a day of exploring!
3. Nishitetsu Grand Hotel

Located just a 5-minute walk from Tenjin Station,
the 4-star Nishitetsu Grand Hotel is a fantastic choice.
It's super close to the Tenjin Underground Shopping Center,
and there's so much to do nearby! You can easily enjoy a day of shopping,
then head back to the hotel to relax and recharge.

If you opt for a Japanese-Western style room,
you'll get to stay in a room that perfectly combines
a comfortable bed with traditional tatami flooring.

Normally, you'd use it with a table like this, but
if you're staying with kids, you can enjoy a room where you don't have to worry
about them falling out of bed.
The rooms are also incredibly spacious at 50m2,
making them much more comfortable for families with young children.
The breakfast spread is amazing, with various live stations offering dishes like
Kaisendon (seafood rice bowl) and Onigiri (rice balls), ensuring high satisfaction,
so we highly recommend choosing the breakfast option!
4. Hakata Green Hotel No.1

If prioritizing easy access to Hakata Station is your top concern,
then this is the perfect spot for you!
The Green Hotel No.1 is incredibly located just a 1-minute walk
from Hakata Station itself.

With spacious rooms measuring 26m2,
and the option to use up to four futons, your whole family can
comfortably spread out and relax together.
It's especially ideal when you have a lot of luggage
or are traveling with young children.
5. Hakata Green Hotel Annex

This hotel belongs to the same group as Hakata Green Hotel No. 1 (number 4 on our list),
and it's also conveniently located right in front of Hakata Station.
With a convenience store on the first floor and its super close proximity to the station,
it's an excellent location for parents traveling with lots of luggage and little ones.
If station accessibility is your top priority,
it's a great idea to check out the rooms here alongside Hotel No. 1.
The prices are quite similar too!

Unlike Hotel No. 1, Hakata Green Hotel Annex
offers three single beds and one futon.
(Hotel No. 1 only provides four futons.)
This way, your young children can sleep comfortably on the futon,
while parents can enjoy a restful night in the beds.

Just a heads-up, the accommodations I picked this time around focused on whether they had a Japanese-style seating area rather than a large public bath, and especially on tatami rooms and their location.
Why? Because if you're traveling with young children,
you often can't really use the large public baths.
So, if I had to pick just a few recommendations for you:
Prioritize great value for money? → Montan Hakata
Is station accessibility key? → Hakata Green Hotel
Prefer spacious rooms even if they're a bit pricier? → Nishitetsu Grand Hotel
Considering your child's personality, your own preferences, and your travel priorities, I hope you choose the perfect Fukuoka accommodation, leading to a wonderfully comfortable trip!
