Fukuoka eSIM Data Usage for 3 Nights, 4 Days (2026)
Worried about data on your Fukuoka trip? See my actual 3-night, 4-day eSIM usage and my top Japan eSIM recommendation, featuring free Google Maps and AI data!

While an eSIM isn't necessarily a huge expense,
it often makes you wonder, 'Do I really need unlimited data?' especially if you're just blindly opting for the most expensive plan.
Even if you check your usual data consumption, it's a different ballgame when you're traveling.
It's true that your everyday usage doesn't accurately predict your travel data needs.

So today, I'm excited to share my day-by-day Fukuoka eSIM data usage from my 3-night, 4-day solo trip to Fukuoka, and recommend the Japan travel eSIM I used :)
Fukuoka eSIM
3-Night, 4-Day Data Usage
✅ Primarily used for Google Maps, VoIP calls, YouTube Music, Papago, etc.
▶ 1 GB per day + unlimited throttled data
✅ Watching videos on data when Wi-Fi isn't available
▶ 3 GB per day or more

My total data usage over the 3 nights and 4 days in Fukuoka was 4.3 GB!
That's an average of a little over 1 GB per day.
Since data usage varies depending on how much time you spend outside your accommodation and which apps you use, I've broken down the main apps I used for each day of my trip.
By comparing this to your own travel style, you should be able to gauge how many gigabytes of eSIM you'll need.
Data Usage | Main Apps Used | Itinerary |
Day 1 456 MB | Google Maps, VoIP calls, Papago, YouTube Music, Instagram, etc. | Arrived in Fukuoka at 1:00 PM Returned to accommodation around 8:00 PM |
Day 2 484 MB | Google Maps, VoIP calls, YouTube Music, etc. | Yufuin tour Dropped off in Yufuin Checked in at 5:00 PM |
Day 3 3.3 GB | Google Maps, VoIP calls, Papago, YouTube Music, ChatGPT, Gemini, YouTube, etc. | Bus from Yufuin to Fukuoka Watched YouTube on data at accommodation |
Day 4 92 MB | Google Maps, Uber, YouTube Music, etc. | Departed on a 10:00 AM flight |
For context, I'm a solo traveler, prone to getting lost, and with no Japanese language skills.
This means I'm bound to use a lot of data when traveling in Japan, so I chose a plan with 3 GB per day + unlimited throttled data. However, I only used all of it on one day!
Even then, that was mostly because I was streaming YouTube on data the entire time I was at my accommodation. If not for that, I wouldn't have used up all my data on Day 3 either.

If you're like me and mostly use essential apps during your trip, 1 GB per day + unlimited throttled data should be plenty. A big reason my data usage wasn't higher was that the eSIM I used offered free Google Maps and AI usage!

Japan Travel eSIM Recommendation
✅ Free Google Maps, ChatGPT, Gemini usage
✅ Slightly cheaper than competitors after a 20% discount
✅ Excellent coverage in Beppu, Yunohana, and Yufuin
✅ Real-time data usage monitoring available

I used a Usimsa eSIM for my recent Fukuoka trip. The biggest reason I recommend it for Japan travel is that Google Maps usage doesn't count towards your data allowance.

As someone who gets lost easily, I'm constantly checking Google Maps when I travel. Before, I'd often find directions and then turn off my data to save it, which was a hassle when I needed to search again.
But with Usimsa, Google Maps usage isn't deducted from your data, so I could leave it on as much as I wanted, which was incredibly convenient : )

And it's not even expensive; it was actually a few dollars cheaper than other providers, so I bought it without hesitation. It wasn't a huge difference, but it felt like a win!

During my trip, I visited Beppu, the Yunohana sulfur fields, and even spent a night alone in Yufuin, but I never had any issues with data connectivity throughout my travels.

Being able to check my real-time data usage was also super convenient. If you sign up, you can even see your past eSIM data usage, which is handy for future purchases.
I was so satisfied with the Usimsa eSIM that I plan to use it again when I head to Kitakyushu next month!
