On my trip to Fukuoka last year (2025), I brought back about three bags of my beloved Imoya Kinjiro sweet potato sticks.

My husband, who hadn't tried them before, initially wondered why I'd wait in such a long line for them. But once he tasted them back home, he was completely hooked, declaring them the 'snack of a lifetime'!

He kept thinking about that crispy, sweet flavor, so on this trip to Fukuoka in 2026, I made it my mission to stock up. I headed straight back to their store in the Tenjin Underground Mall!

If you're wondering what souvenirs to buy in Fukuoka, pay attention! This time, we brought home a whopping five bags, haha!

Imoya Kinjiro, the Sweet Potato Stick Hotspot

Imoya Kinjiro used to be located across from the Kaldi Coffee Farm store. As you walked through the long underground mall, the sweet aroma of fried sweet potatoes would guide you right to it!

I was genuinely surprised on this trip to see how much longer the queue had become compared to my last visit!😲

It seems word has really gotten out, with people lining up for quite a distance. Well, I guess everyone recognizes a good thing when they taste it, right?

In front of the store, you'll find various types of sweet potato sticks displayed, making the wait in line quite enjoyable as you browse.

There are products packed in paper bags, freshly made that day, and also transparent packaging where you can see the contents.

I generously bought some to enjoy as a street snack right away and others to take back to the US as souvenirs!

🍠 Which Sweet Potato Snack to Choose?

Imoya Kinjiro's signature snack is 'Imokenpi,' a Japanese-style sweet potato stick.

As a specialty sweet potato snack shop that originated in Kochi Prefecture, they offer a truly diverse range of Imokenpi.

The store displays everything from freshly fried, warm Imokenpi to special Imokenpi, salt-flavored Kenpi, and even sweet potato chips.

✔️ Freshly Fried Imokenpi 120g: 500 yen

✔️ Special Imokenpi 200g: 550 yen

After waiting in the long line, I bought two 120g bags and three 200g bags to enjoy with my husband back home.

The resealable bags make them super easy to pack in a suitcase or travel bag, perfect for bringing home!

💡Important Update Before Your Visit!

(Store Relocation News)

According to the notice I saw at the store, Imoya Kinjiro relocated and reopened on October 2, 2026, after a brief closure on September 30th and October 1st, 2026!

The newly relocated store now features a workshop, where they plan to offer freshly baked sweet potato fries and ice cream!🍦🍠

So, from October 2026 onwards, *do not look for it opposite Kaldi Coffee Farm*. Make sure to check Google Maps for the updated location!
