Just a 10-minute walk from Canal City, we discovered a true gem!
This is the spot serving the famous Lemon Motsunabe that even Fukuoka's local TV stations have featured.
We visited Hakata Motsunabe Hibiki (博多もつ鍋 響) in Nakasukawabata, Hakata.
To cut to the chase, we all declared it the best motsunabe of our lives! My husband and sister-in-law (or brother-in-law) raved about it too!!
Hakata Motsunabe Hibiki Location
📍5-28 Tsunabamachi, Hakata Ward, Fukuoka, 812-0024 Japan

We made a stop at Canal City before dinner. We enjoyed some shopping and caught the fountain show!
Coincidentally, there was a live performance by a male idol group, which was an unexpected and fun bonus.
Afterward, we walked to Hibiki, and it was a comfortable 10-minute stroll!
It's a perfect itinerary for your Fukuoka trip: explore Canal City, then head over for dinner. 👍

We booked our table to coincide with their opening time. As we ate, a steady stream of local residents started arriving from 6 PM onwards.
Therefore, we highly recommend making a reservation!!
Restaurant Atmosphere
The restaurant was surprisingly spacious.
There's a bar counter, and further inside, you'll find traditional Japanese-style seating (zashiki).

We were seated at the bar counter.
The clientele was truly local: neighborhood regulars, families, and couples. We didn't spot any other tourists!
If you're looking for an authentic local restaurant without the tourist crowds, this is your spot!!
Hibiki Motsunabe Menu & Prices
There wasn't an English menu available, so we relied on a translation app to navigate our choices!

Soy Sauce or Miso Motsunabe: 1,850 JPY (approx. ~$14 USD)
Lemon or Mentaiko Motsunabe: 2,180 JPY (approx. ~$16 USD)
Additional Beef Offal (100g): 1,100 JPY (approx. ~$8 USD)
Our group of three adults ordered:
One Lemon Motsunabe,
One extra serving of beef offal, and extra tofu,
Chicken skewers, a vinegared side dish, and karaage,
Two one-hour all-you-can-drink packages, and one single drink.
The variety of drinks available for the all-you-can-drink option was a great bonus!
Lemon Motsunabe Review
Initially, I was worried the lemon might make it too sour. But once we tasted it, it was completely different!

We were advised that the lemon could turn bitter if boiled too long, so we removed the slices and started with the broth.

It's not an overpowering lemon flavor. Instead, it’s a rich broth with a subtle, refreshing tang. This makes it incredibly addictive and easy to keep eating.

The tofu was even softer and silkier than Haidilao's famous soft tofu! While it comes with some, if you love it as much as we did, definitely order more.
You can also add udon noodles or rice porridge at the end, but we were too full to try them. 😂
We had another restaurant planned for later, otherwise, we would have definitely added them!
The chicken skewers, vinegared side dish, and karaage were all delicious too!!

The karaage, in particular, was incredibly tender, practically melting in your mouth.

The refreshing vinegared dish was so good, you could easily finish a bowl of rice with it.

And you can't forget the mackerel sashimi, a Japanese classic!!!
Seriously, every single dish was absolutely deliciousㅠㅠㅠ
One-Hour All-You-Can-Drink Option Available
Our go-to drink in Japan for every meal: Nama Beer (draft beer)!!

In Japan, a one-hour all-you-can-drink option is quite common. If you plan on having more than three beers, it's an incredible value!!

Each time we ordered a fresh beer, they brought it in a new, chilled glassㅠㅠ This thoughtful touch was truly appreciated 😭😭

After a few beers, I decided to try the tomato chuhai. It tasted like tomato juice mixed with soda water, which was pleasant, but I still preferred the beer.
