For this Fukuoka trip,
I stayed at the Quintessa Hotel Watanabe-dori
Comic & Books!
Having explored so much during the day 😓,
I decided to head back to the accommodation early
and seek out a local gem.
After a first round at a nearby gyoza place,
I was looking for a second spot and found one with fantastic ratings
just a 5-minute walk from the hotel:
I paid a visit to Yakitori and Gyoza Gokuu!

Nestled in an alley in the Kiyokawa residential area,
this spot exuded the vibe of a neighborhood izakaya frequented by locals
rather than tourists.

You can order using a QR code,
and with Korean menu support, ordering worries are a no-go~!
🥟 Why I Ordered Gyoza Again for the Second Round
Even though I'd already had gyoza for the first round,
they sold it here too, so I just had to order it out of curiosity!

And this gyoza…
It was exactly the gyoza taste I was dreaming of!
Crispy on the outside,
and bursting with juicy flavor in every bite,
I just kept eating them, even after a full first round, lol!

"Is this really a yakitori place?"
"Why is the gyoza so incredibly delicious?!" my husband and I kept exclaiming,
utterly moved by every bite 🥟
🔥 From Yakitori to Liver Skewers and Beyond

We ordered a menu item similar to
the "Today's Recommended Set!"

I was surprised that the first item to arrive was liver skewers,
but these freshly grilled charcoal river skewers were
tender, savory, and completely free of any gamey taste.

🍢Set Composition
Liver Skewer + Grilled Mentaiko (Pollock Roe) + Green Onion Bacon Roll Skewer + Okra Skewer
Every single item in the set was absolutely delicious,
so we kept toasting with our beers, "Cheers! Cheers!" 🍺

🍶 You absolutely have to try the local sake!
They have quite a diverse lineup of local sakes here.

Following our own little theory that where the snacks are good, the drinks are too (haha!),
we got a recommendation from the chef and enjoyed a glass of sake.

I can't recall the name, but
the sake in the purple bottle was described as an award-winning, premium local sake.

Even for me, someone who isn't usually a big fan of soju (Korean liquor),
I thought, 'Wow, this is delicious!' It was incredibly smooth, with a subtle sweetness and went down so easily!
It paired perfectly with the soft-boiled egg skewer they gave us as a service, and the additional karaage we ordered.

🍢 Fried radish, and then my belly was bursting!
The food was so delicious,
we just had to add fried radish to our order!

It's a style where radish, infused with broth much like the daikon in oden, is fried until crispy on the outside.
That crispy-on-the-outside, juicy-on-the-inside texture was absolutely thumbs-up worthy!

After all that, especially with the karaage,
my belly was completely full – bursting even, haha!
🏨 If you're staying in Watanabe-dori, this is a must-visit!
The food quality here is excellent, and perhaps because it's run by younger folks,
the restaurant had such a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.

The energetic chef,
who seemed to understand a bit of Korean, tried to strike up a conversation with us,
and it was absolutely charming! Haha!
This was one of those places where I thought, 'I'd happily come back here a second time!'
If you've booked accommodation near Watanabe-dori,
then Yakitori & Gyoza Gokuu is an absolute must-visit!
