Fukuoka Travel: December Weather
Real-time Outfit Guide & Travel Itinerary
What really surprised me on my Fukuoka trip this past week was
how much warmer it was compared to Korea!
I had packed a heavy padded jacket and
brushed fleece pants, thinking of the Korean weather, but a little bit of activity had me
sweating and overheating, so I ended up taking them off.
So, I'm going to share everything you need to know, from what to wear,
to recommended winter travel itineraries!
December Weather

Fukuoka's December weather typically sees an average low of 5.6°C
and an average high of 12.6°C, making it quite chilly.
Rain is quite rare!
During the day, you'll enjoy pleasantly cool weather, but
it gets equally cold in the early mornings and evenings.
Compared to Seoul, where temperatures often drop below freezing,
Fukuoka is definitely less cold.
What to Wear

I relied solely on one thick padded jacket and didn't pack
any lighter outerwear like a thin jacket or cardigan.
As a result, it was too hot to wear the padded jacket during the day or indoors,
but taking it off left me freezing in just a long-sleeved T-shirt.
So, from the second day onwards, I either wore just a brushed fleece hoodie
or a thin T-shirt layered with the padded jacket.

My husband, who traveled with me, wore a turtleneck and a coat.
While it might get colder towards the end of December,
for those visiting Fukuoka now, I recommend packing
a coat, cardigan, zip-up hoodie, or a light padded jacket
rather than a heavy one.
Travel Itinerary

Christmas Market
Currently, in December, Christmas Markets are
happening all over Fukuoka!
With dazzling illuminations, diverse shops, and live performances,
there's so much to see, so make sure to stop by if you're passing through!

Yufuin Tour
Yufuin is the closest and most famous day trip destination from Fukuoka!
It's renowned for its hot springs, and while many stay overnight,
most visitors typically do a day tour.
Since this itinerary covers Yufuin, Beppu, and Dazaifu all in one day,
I highly recommend a bus tour for a comfortable and convenient experience
over independent travel.

There are many bus tour operators,
but I've compared Raku Tour, which is the most famous and has the most reviews,
with the relatively more affordable U-Tour Bus.
Item | MyRealTrip Raku Tour | Klook U-Tour Bus |
Price | ~$39 | ~$35 |

Klook Discount Codes |

You can consider both tours to have almost identical itineraries,
with the U-Tour Bus visiting one additional attraction (Yunohana),
and the Dazaifu tour not providing mochi snacks!
But the mochi snack only costs about 150 JPY,
so I recommend buying the snack yourself and entering a Klook discount code
to get an even better deal on your trip!

Nakas River Cruise
This tour takes you on a boat ride along the Nakas River,
where you'll explore many of Fukuoka's famous spots.
The guide doesn't just provide explanations; they even sing,
making sure you have an exciting and enjoyable time!

There's also a Christmas Market around the Nakas River,
so if you take the cruise, you can admire beautiful trees and
even an observation deck!

Momochi Beach & Fukuoka Tower
While many people say there isn't much to see when they actually visit Momochi Beach,
I personally loved it!
If you time your visit for sunset, you'll be treated to a magnificent golden glow,
and the wedding hall situated in the middle of the sea creates a charming
European-style atmosphere that's just beautiful.

Fukuoka Tower is located right behind Momochi Beach.
Similarly, if you go up around sunset,
you can enjoy both the sunset and the night view!
Booking in advance is much cheaper
than buying on-site, so be sure to make a reservation!
Same-day reservations are also available.

Canal City Fountain Show
Canal City, a shopping mall, is considered one of Fukuoka's must-visit spots
for a good reason:
the fountain show that takes place at scheduled times!
If you arrive on time, you can watch the fountain show synchronized to music,
and it's much more beautiful
to visit in the evening than during the day!

After enjoying the fountain show, explore the shops
inside La Festa on the same floor.
There are many stores, and among them, the Ghibli merchandise shop
has so many adorable items!
So far, we've covered Fukuoka's December weather,
real-time outfit recommendations, and travel itineraries.
As the weather has been quite unpredictable lately, please pay attention to your attire,
and I highly recommend giving the Yufuin tour a try!
