This time, I decided to shake things up and embark on a Fukuoka day trip tour that combined the popular Yufuin with Dazaifu and Beppu, hitting three fantastic spots in one go!

Dazaifu: First Stop on Your Fukuoka Bus Tour

Our Fukuoka area bus tour kicked off at Dazaifu, our first exciting destination. This spot is already renowned for its strikingly unique wooden Starbucks, and the best part of this tour itinerary is that we visit it first! This means no long waits to place your order, which is a huge bonus.

As a popular spot, it's not just packed with tourists snapping photos, but also with people eager to try the exclusive menu items sold here. I quickly grabbed some photos before ordering my coffee, and in that short time...

...a line had already formed! It just goes to show that a little bit of early bird hustle pays off immensely for the rest of your itinerary.

As you stroll further inside, coffee in hand, you'll encounter another famous attraction: the 'Lucky Cow' statue. Legend has it that touching its horns will boost your intelligence and help you pass exams. The line of people waiting to touch it or take a photo stretches quite a bit! I decided to bypass it, knowing there's actually another cow statue tucked further inside with hardly any crowd. While I'm not sure if it offers the same 'luck,' it's perfect for a photo op without the wait!

Crossing this bridge leads you to a grand shrine-like building. There are three bridges, each symbolizing the past, present, and future. Most visitors snap photos here, but if you move slightly to the right and position the bridges in the background, you can capture a truly unique shot.

Inside, you'll find a bustling atmosphere with countless wishes hanging. While most are in Japanese, you'll occasionally spot messages written in other languages, including English.

And there it is: the other cow statue I mentioned. It's tucked away a bit, which is probably why it seems a little 'lonely' with fewer people around. A perfect photo opportunity without the crowds!

After enjoying some delicious mochi and a savory mentaiko baguette, our Dazaifu exploration came to a delightful close.

Yufuin

The second stop on our Fukuoka 1-day bus tour was the incredibly famous Yufuin. We had a generous amount of time here for lunch and exploring, so if you're keen on a hot spring experience, this is your chance!

Yufuin Floral Village immediately gave me Harry Potter vibes, and it turns out, it's designed to recreate a traditional English village! No wonder it felt so magical.

You can also try the famous Kinsho Croquette (Golden Croquette) here. I skipped it this time, as I'd tried it before and honestly, I didn't quite understand the hype. Why is it 'golden'? Why is it so popular? That said, if you haven't tried it, I recommend giving it a taste and forming your own opinion—everyone's palate is different!

Since it wasn't my first visit, I spent my remaining time simply wandering through the quieter, less crowded areas. Amidst a packed tour schedule, these little moments of serene relaxation are truly priceless.

Mount Yufu (Yufudake)

This stop is primarily for a quick photo opportunity, and our fantastic guide was on hand to help each group capture the perfect shot. We didn't stay long, perhaps 20-30 minutes, just enough time to soak in the views.

Beppu

The final destination of our Fukuoka day trip was Beppu. My first impression was of a charming, tranquil Japanese countryside village. It felt genuinely rural, without the usual touristy bustle or the noise of a big city.

Perhaps because it's such a small town, it even boasts a century-old bakery. Our guide explained that while it might not be the most incredibly delicious bread you've ever tasted, its historical significance makes it a worthwhile stop. We arrived almost at closing time, so the selection was limited, but the taste was wonderfully simple and satisfying. It hit the spot perfectly, as I was starting to feel a bit hungry!
