2. My Top 5 Christmas Spots from Last Year's Visit
Last year, I personally visited these five spots:
Hakata Station, Tenjin Central Park,
the Guest House, Nakasu River, and Fukuoka Tower.
I'll cover their locations, what to see, and even how to get around
in the sections below :)
JR Hakata Station Front Plaza

The Hakata Station Christmas Advent takes place
in the plaza in front of JR Hakata Station.
Once you step outside the station, you'll see a huge Christmas tree and beautiful illuminations,
so even first-time visitors won't have trouble finding it.

In the shops set up like a flea market,
they were selling Christmas souvenirs and merchandise.
From snow globes to Santa and snowman decorations,
and even Matryoshka doll items, there was a wide variety.
Prices varied per item, ranging from ~$15 to ~$37!

Food stalls were also operating around the plaza.
When I visited,
they were selling everything from simple items like sausages and french fries,
to warm food and drinks.

You could buy food and sit at the tables in the plaza
you could grab a bite.
A stage was set up around the magnificent central tree,
and live performances were scheduled throughout the evening.
While plenty of tables and seats were available,
by evening, it became quite a challenge to find an empty spot
as so many people gathered!

As the weather was a bit chilly, I decided to warm up with some corn soup
while enjoying the show. The food prices were incredibly reasonable,
making it a delightful and budget-friendly experience!
After soaking in the performance for about 30 minutes, I made my way to the next enchanting spot:
Tenjin Central Park :)
Tenjin Central Park
At Tenjin Central Park, the magical illuminations stretched
deep into the park,
and you'd find charming tables and photo zones set up everywhere.

A magnificent large tree also stood proudly in one corner of the park.
While Hakata Station seemed to attract more couples and groups of friends,
Tenjin Park was definitely bustling with happy families!

Throughout the park,
adorable Santa and snowman sculptures were also charmingly placed.
It wasn't just a place to gaze at beautiful illuminations;
there were countless photo zones scattered around, perfect for capturing memories,
making it ideal for a relaxed and unhurried exploration.

Even within Tenjin Central Park, there were inviting booths selling Christmas decorations
and delightful souvenirs.
You could also find food booths offering quick and tasty bites
like kebabs, perfect for a festive snack.
In front of Kihinkan Hall + Nakasu River Area

This is the lovely area in front of Kihinkan Hall, which is seamlessly connected to Tenjin Central Park.
Right in front of the event space, you'd discover a striking FUKUOKA sculpture
and dazzling illuminations.

In the inviting plaza in front of Kihinkan Hall,
booths offering delicious food and refreshing drinks encircled the area,
with cozy tables and seats thoughtfully arranged in the center.
Compared to the grand scale of Hakata Station or Tenjin Central Park,
the event here felt a bit more intimate and charming.

A stage and a festive Christmas tree were also set up on one side,
so if you manage to time your visit just right, you can savor some delicious food
while enjoying a captivating performance.

What truly caught my eye at Kihinkan Hall
was a whimsical gathering of Santa sculptures all in one delightful spot.
You could even sit on the inviting chair in the middle and snap some photos,
which is why so many people were eagerly waiting to capture their own festive moments.

From Kihinkan Hall, the enchanting illuminations continued to sparkle along the path
towards the Nakasu River bridge.
And by the Nakasu River itself, a magnificent large tree stood, radiating festive cheer.
While it's not a place bursting with spectacular sights,
its proximity to the Guest House (Kihinkan) made it
a great spot to visit as a pair.

When you think of Fukuoka,
you've probably all seen this famous photo spot, right?
It's the path that leads straight to this bridge!
Fukuoka Tower

The plaza in front of Fukuoka Tower also featured a Christmas market and
beautiful illuminations.
Near the entrance, there was a heart-shaped photo zone,
and further inside, you'd find food stalls and tables.

What made this venue different from others was that it operated an outdoor ice-skating rink.
Instead of just browsing the Christmas market,
there were activities to enjoy directly,
making it a great place for families to visit.

With Fukuoka Tower visible behind the event venue,
you can capture the Santa sculpture and the tower in one shot.
Since you can also enjoy the tower's night view,
if you have Momochi in your itinerary, consider combining them!
3. 2026 Christmas Advent Limited Edition Mug Cup

Each venue offers a different design of the
2026 limited edition original mug cup.
If you order a warm drink,
it's served in one of these limited edition mugs,
which you can then take home as a souvenir after finishing your drink.

I bought one last year, including the drink, for 1500 yen!

4. If it's your first time, here's how to explore:
An itinerary curated by a capital 'J' (planner) who navigates Fukuoka without Google Maps
If Hakata Station is your center:
→ JR Hakata Station Plaza
If you want to see multiple places in Tenjin:
→ Daimyo Garden City → Fukuoka City Hall West Plaza →
Tenjin Central Park → Guest House (Kihinkan) → Nakasu River
If Fukuoka Tower is on your itinerary:
→ Include the Christmas event in front of Fukuoka Tower
Conclusion
Unless you're collecting the limited edition mugs,
there's no need to visit all the event venues ❌
The event atmospheres are quite similar, so visiting just 2-3 nearby spots like
Tenjin Central Park → Guest House (Kihinkan) → Nakasu River was more than enough.
It took about 2-3 hours.
If it's your first visit, prioritize larger venues like Hakata Station and Tenjin Central Park,
and if you have extra time, visit the Guest House (Kihinkan) and Nakasu.
If Fukuoka Tower is on your itinerary, then a visit is recommended!
(Visiting Fukuoka Tower specifically for Christmas is NOT recommended)
If you're planning a winter trip to Fukuoka in 2026,
keep this in mind when arranging your itinerary!
