Discover the vibrant Canal City Hakata in Fukuoka! From delicious takoyaki and endless shopping to spectacular fountain shows, it's an entertainment hub you can't miss.

Canal City Hakata is a massive complex bringing together a shopping mall, cinema, theater, and even hotels – all under one roof! I was having an absolutely perfect time, fueled by delicious takoyaki and crepes, and thoroughly enjoying my stroll through the mall.
Suddenly, I heard a loud sound, and stepping outside, I was immediately greeted by a stunning panoramic fountain show! Honestly, I would have been so disappointed if I'd left Canal City Hakata off my Fukuoka itinerary!
I've put together all the latest info, current as of August 2026.

Your Visit Itinerary & Essential Info

I stopped by around 6:20 PM on a weekday.
Feeling a bit peckish, I grabbed a snack and explored a bit.
After catching the fountain show around 7:30 PM and exploring even more,
I finally left Canal City around 8:20 PM.
Since there isn't just one fountain show schedule throughout the day,
you can totally adjust your visit to catch the show theme that most excites you!
I've included a link to the Canal City fountain show schedule below,
so you can easily check it before your visit~

My first stop, straight from Canal City, was
the takoyaki specialty shop, Tsukiji Gindako!
I ordered two flavors: original and mentaiko mayo.
And the moment they arrived, they looked absolutely irresistible 👍

Maybe it was because they were freshly made, but the moment I took a bite,
a wave of hot steam immediately rose up.
‼️ Super hot, so be careful! ‼️ I almost burned the roof of my mouth.
The octopus inside was delightfully plump, making each bite wonderfully chewy.
The takoyaki balls themselves were also quite substantial in size.
Between the two, the mentaiko mayo was definitely my favorite – totally my jam 💛
Dipper Dan Crepes Canal City Hakata

After that savory takoyaki,
what else but a sweet treat, right?
So, I headed to Dipper Dan, a renowned crepe specialty brand.
It was so fun to watch the crepes I'd only ever seen in anime
being made right before my eyes in a flash!
It added a whole layer of visual delight ✨

I ordered the Strawberry Banana Chocolate Ice Cream Crepe!
It tasted exactly as the name promised.
While it was a bit more ordinary than I expected, it was still pretty decent.
Is it a must-try? Not necessarily.
Next time, I might opt for something a bit more adventurous than a basic flavor.
I'm thinking I'll try something new~
Canal City Photo Ops
📍 You can explore from B1F to 4F

After enjoying a light dessert,
the fountain naturally caught my eye.
It was the perfect spot to capture some lovely photos in front of the fountain.
When the fountain show is running, it gets very crowded,
so I recommend visiting during regular fountain operating hours
to take your pictures!

I was happily exploring the mall when suddenly,
I heard a loud sound from outside.
Curious, I immediately went to check it out.
People were gathering in the plaza,
and the lights went off, hinting that something was about to happen.

As I started to pay attention, the fountain show began!
I couldn't take my eyes off it for the entire 10 minutes or so.
I stumbled upon the fountain show without knowing about it,
and it was absolutely wonderful and made me so happy.
I watched from the railing on the 3rd or 4th floor, and the view was fantastic.
If you have kids, the B1F area would be a great spot to watch.
Sun Plaza Fountain Show & Canal Aqua Panorama
What's that, you ask!?
It's a "Fountain Show" (Dancing Water) where the fountains
dance to music at the Sun Plaza from B1F to 4F.
At night, you can enjoy the comprehensive entertainment of "Canal Aqua Panorama," featuring 3D projection mapping utilizing the facility's walls and glass surfaces (equivalent to approximately 2,500 inches), a water screen, concert hall-level sound, and stunning lighting effects.
It looks much more realistic in videos.
However, the real experience is far more grand and magnificent.
The fountain show schedule may change seasonally.
Since it can change without prior notice,
please be sure to check the showtimes on the official website before your visit!

Tsukiji Gindaco sells Original and Mentaiko Mayo flavors, and the article's author rated the Mentaiko Mayo flavor as more delicious. They are freshly made and hot, with plump octopus inside and generously sized takoyaki balls.
