Fukuoka has the shortest flight time
among all destinations in Japan!
It takes just 1.5 hours to arrive in
Fukuoka, Japan from Incheon.
Because it’s so close, it’s a place many of us visit quite often.
If you feel like shopping and dining
in Fukuoka are starting to feel a bit too routine,
I highly recommend taking a
one-day bus tour that includes Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine.
As I share my review of this Fukuoka bus tour,
I’ll also quietly slide in a 50% discount code for KKday
right at the bottom of this post!

Fukuoka Dazaifu Tenmangu Tour

Out of all the highlights of the Fukuoka tour,
let me share my specific review of
Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine!!
Dazaifu Tenmangu is a shrine
dedicated to the deity of learning.
Interestingly, the deity wasn't originally a god but a real person—
a highly respected scholar who, through ancestral spirit beliefs,
eventually became deified as the god of literature and education!
His name was Sugawara no Michizane.

Fukuoka's Dazaifu Tenmangu is also a place
where people facing big exams or job interviews
come to buy protective amulets (omamori).
I visited to buy one for my sibling who is currently job hunting, and...
Hoping that everything I'm working on goes smoothly,
I bought a few *omamori* (Japanese amulets).
Fingers crossed they actually work!

Also, the *omikuji* (fortune slips) you draw here
don't have any "bad luck" results.
They say only "good fortune" slips are drawn.
Though people say if you get "small good fortune,"
it's practically like getting bad luck!
/
Since these fortunes predict your luck for the whole year,
it's definitely worth giving it a try when you visit!

One of the most famous sights at Dazaifu Tenmangu
is the legendary ox statue.
Legend has it that rubbing the ox's head
makes you smarter!
And rubbing its body
helps cure illnesses.
Hey, you've got nothing to lose—give it a rub for good luck!!

There are actually 11 ox statues
scattered throughout the shrine, so keep an eye out!
Take photos with them
and make sure to give them plenty of rubs!!

When entering a shrine, you pass through
a traditional gate called a *torii*.
Since it represents the gateway (or "bird perch") connecting us to the gods,
it's customary to bow slightly before passing through.

Inside the shrine grounds, you'll find beautiful arched bridges.
These wooden bridges
are structured as arched - flat - arched.
These sections actually symbolize the past, present, and future,
so make sure to cross them mindfully...!!

There are a total of 11 ox statues within the shrine grounds. It is believed that touching the ox's head will make you smarter, and touching its body will cure illnesses.
The omikuji here are unique in that they do not include any bad fortunes, only good ones. However, it is said that drawing a 'small blessing' (Shokichi) can practically be considered a bad fortune.
