How to Ride Fukuoka Buses
There are three main ways to pay for your bus ride in Fukuoka:

2. Check Your Fare
The monitor at the front of the bus continuously displays the current stop and the corresponding fare. Fukuoka buses operate on a distance-based fare system, meaning the further you travel, the higher the cost. Basic fares usually start around ~$1.
3. Request Your Stop
As your destination approaches, an announcement will be made, and the stop will be displayed on the monitor. Press the stop request button to signal the driver that you wish to alight.
4. Pay Your Fare
Once the bus stops, move to the front door to pay. If paying with cash, check the number on your ticket against the fare displayed on the monitor, then deposit both the ticket and the exact cash into the fare box next to the driver. For IC card users, simply tap your card on the reader as you exit – easy peasy!
💡 What if you don't have exact change?
Don't fret! The fare box next to the driver has a change machine. It can break down ~$6 bills and some coins.
A ~$6 bill will typically be converted into nine ~$1 coins, one ~$0 coin, and five ~$0 coins (representing 100 yen, 50 yen, and 10 yen respectively).
