Fukuoka's Best Restaurants 2026: My Top 5 Personal Picks
Uncover Fukuoka's culinary gems! This guide shares my top 5 personally paid-for restaurant recommendations, ensuring authentic tastes for your 2026 Japan trip. Don't miss these local favorites!
Hello, this is Miyalog!
One thing you can't leave out when traveling is, of course, the great food spots.
Having visited Fukuoka multiple times over the past year,
I've put together a list primarily of places I'd go again, and places I've already revisited, based on my own standards.
In this post, I'll be sharing five Fukuoka restaurants that I personally paid for and visited.
1. Itookashi
Business Hours: 7:00 AM ~ 12:00 PM / 5:30 PM ~ 11:00 PM
※ Operating hours may change during year-end/New Year holidays, national holidays, etc.
Google Maps rating 4.4, 1,326 reviews
Selected as a Tabelog Top 100 Restaurant for 2025

It's not easy to find restaurants that open early in Fukuoka,
but this place, operating from 7 AM, is a fantastic spot for **Fukuoka breakfast**.
Serving freshly caught fish from their tank,
they offer everything from Kaisen-don (seafood rice bowl) to grilled fish set meals and sashimi set meals.
The restaurant is conveniently located near Tenjin, making it easy to access,
and it's a wonderful place to start your day with an authentic Japanese home-style set meal.
As a Tabelog Top 100 selected restaurant,
it's also famous among locals, so be prepared for a wait.
2. Tempura Hirao Tenjin Acros Branch
Business Hours: Daily 10:30 AM ~ 8:00 PM / Cash Only
※ Operating hours may change during year-end/New Year holidays, national holidays, etc.
Google Maps rating 4.4, 2,348 reviews

If you're looking for a great tempura restaurant in Fukuoka,
this place is always on the list.
Among its branches, the Tenjin Acros store offers excellent accessibility,
making it a convenient spot for those looking for great food in Tenjin.
There's also a Daimyo branch nearby, so you can choose whichever suits your itinerary best.

The ratio of locals to tourists is high,
and during lunchtime, you'll often see many office workers waiting in line.
(Office workers waiting while working on their laptops...? Definitely a must-try restaurant!)

If you order a set meal,
it comes with tempura, a bowl of rice, and miso soup,
with each piece of tempura fried and served fresh as you eat.
It's not oily and has a clean, savory taste,
making it a Tenjin favorite I revisit every time I go to Fukuoka.

(The tempura selection varies with each set meal.)
3. Hakata Gomasabaya
Business Hours: 11:00 AM ~ 2:00 PM
5:30 PM ~ 10:00 PM
Cash payment only, Closed on Sundays
Google Maps rating 4.4, 2,215 reviews
Hakata is close to the Genkai Sea,
making it a region famous for mackerel dishes.
Gomasaba, in particular,
is known as a signature dish synonymous with Hakata.

As expected from a specialty mackerel restaurant, Hakata Gomasabaya primarily serves mackerel dishes.

Since I'm not a big fan of raw food, I ordered the grilled mackerel. The grilled mackerel was thick-fleshed with just the right amount of fat, making it savory and not at all fishy.

My boyfriend ordered the sesame mackerel rice bowl.
Even though I'm usually sensitive to fishy tastes,
the sesame soy sauce balanced it perfectly,
allowing me to enjoy it smoothly and deliciously.
This place also has a queue even before opening,
so I recommend visiting with plenty of time to spare.
4. Ippudo Ramen Daimyo Main Branch
Opening Hours: Daily 11:00 AM ~ 10:00 PM
Last order 30 minutes before closing
Google Maps Rating: 4.2, Reviews: 2,029

Along with Ichiran Ramen,
this is one of Fukuoka's quintessential tonkotsu ramen spots.
I expected a long wait since it's the main branch,
but the turnover was surprisingly quick.

I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen + Gyoza set,
and my boyfriend opted for the Tonkotsu with spicy sauce.
The broth was rich but not greasy, with no unpleasant odors.
The noodles were thin and chewy, soaking up the broth perfectly.
The chashu had a melt-in-your-mouth texture,
making the whole meal incredibly satisfying.
If you're a bit tired of Ichiran,
I highly recommend trying a meal at Ippudo.
5. Daichi no Udon
Opening Hours: 10:00 AM ~ 3:30 PM / 5:00 PM ~ 9:00 PM
※ Operating hours may vary during New Year holidays, national holidays, etc.
Google Maps Rating: 4.2, Reviews: 4,062

Across the street from Hakata Station, you'll find
Daichi no Udon (大地のうどん), a popular Hakata udon spot with great accessibility.
Among Fukuoka's udon places, it's known for its excellent noodle elasticity,
and for its huge burdock root tempura (goboten).

I ordered their signature dish:
Meat + Burdock Root Tempura Udon.
The broth was rich yet clean,
and even though I usually don't prefer tempura in my soup, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The noodle elasticity was so good it reminded me of Takamatsu, famous for its udon in Japan. If you're looking for an excellent udon spot in Fukuoka, this place won't disappoint.
Each time I travel, I look for new culinary gems, but these are my absolute go-to places that I keep coming back to.
If you're planning a trip to Fukuoka,
I highly recommend checking them out! :D
