Fukuoka Airport to Hakata & Tenjin 2026: Taxi, Subway, Bus Guide
Arriving at Fukuoka Airport and wondering how to reach Hakata Station or Tenjin? This guide breaks down your best options by taxi, subway, and bus, ensuring a smooth start to your Fukuoka adventure.

Fukuoka is a quintessential Japanese travel destination,
famous for its airport being incredibly close to the city center.
Upon arriving in Fukuoka via an international flight,
you'll most likely find yourself heading straight to
Hakata Station or Tenjin.
Today, I’m going to completely break down all the ways to get from Fukuoka Airport to Hakata Station,
and Tenjin Station. We'll compare methods, including how to take a taxi, taxi fares, and bus timetables!
(I'll also include tips on how to use the airport bus affordably
and how to get a discount on your taxi ride!)
1. How to Get from Fukuoka Airport to Hakata Station

From Fukuoka Airport, there are three main ways to get to the city center,
specifically Hakata Station and Tenjin Station:
1) Subway
After arriving at the International Terminal, you'll need to take a shuttle bus
to the Domestic Terminal before you can board the subway.
2) Airport Bus
After disembarking and exiting the arrival hall,
you can board directly (it's a cashless bus).
3) Taxi
Similar to the airport bus, you can exit the airport
and board a taxi directly from the taxi stand.
(I'll share a Japanese Uber discount code further down in the post,
which can get you up to 50% off!)
📌 First, something important to know:
Fukuoka Airport is divided into
Domestic and International Terminals.
📍 Fukuoka Airport Domestic Terminal
Shimo-Usuui, Hakata Ward, Fukuoka, Fukuoka Prefecture 812-0003, Japan
📍 Fukuoka Airport International Terminal
Aoki, Hakata Ward, Fukuoka, Fukuoka Prefecture 812-0851, Japan
If you're arriving on an international flight, you'll land at the International Terminal,
but a subway station is NOT directly connected there.
To use the subway, you need to take a free shuttle bus
from the International Terminal to the Domestic Terminal,
and then head down to the subway station.

On the other hand, the airport bus
can be boarded directly from the International Terminal.
If you're traveling with children or elderly parents,
the difference between taking the bus or the subway can feel quite significant.
While the subway might seem like the cheapest option based on fare alone,
the hassle of navigating from International Terminal → Shuttle Bus → Domestic Terminal → Subway
can be quite inconvenient.
That's why, if you have a lot of luggage or are traveling with children,
I recommend comparing the airport bus (which you can take directly from the International Terminal) or
a taxi first!
When you go to Japan, you'll definitely need an eSIM or physical SIM.
MyRealTrip is currently offering a 50% discount,
so I'll leave an eSIM discount link here for you!

2. Fukuoka Airport Subway Fare Comparison

Before diving into my experience, let's compare the fares for getting to Hakata Station and Tenjin Station via
subway, airport bus, and taxi. I'll share my boarding experience afterwards.
| Hakata Station | Tenjin Station |
Subway | 260 yen | 260 yen |
Airport Bus | 400 yen | 500 yen |
Taxi | 1,500 yen ~2,000 yen | 2,500 yen ~3,500 yen |
Taking the subway from Fukuoka Airport to Hakata Station
costs 260 yen for an adult one-way fare.
Hakata Station is just two stops away,
and the actual subway ride
is quite short, taking about 5 minutes.
The fare to Tenjin Station is the same,
and it takes about 11 minutes.

This only accounts for the subway ride itself.
After arriving internationally, if you add the time it takes to
take the free shuttle bus to the Domestic Terminal,
the actual total travel time will increase by about 15 minutes.
For child fares, ages 6-11 are considered children
and pay half of the adult fare.
Infants aged 1-5 travel free, with a maximum of two infants per adult.
While the fares are affordable,
the catch is that you'll need to transfer once by bus from the International Terminal
to the Domestic Terminal, all while managing your luggage.
If you're traveling with children or elderly parents, dragging suitcases,
taking a shuttle bus,
and then heading down to the subway station to catch a train
can be quite a hassle!
3. Fukuoka Airport Bus Fares & Schedule

If you're visiting Fukuoka for the first time with kids,
my top recommendation is the airport bus.
That's because you can board it directly from the International Terminal and travel
to Hakata Station without any transfers.
The Fukuoka Airport International Terminal → Hakata Station airport bus fare is
400 JPY for adults and 200 JPY for children.
1) Buses heading to Hakata Station depart from
International Terminal platforms 6 and 7,
2) The Airport Express to Tenjin departs from
platform 8.
Fukuoka Airport itself is quite compact,
so finding the bus stops is incredibly easy;
(it'd be harder *not* to find them!)
'Hakata' and 'Tenjin' are also clearly written
in Korean (and often English), so it's not difficult at all.

Fukuoka Airport buses are cashless,
so you'll need to prepare your ticket in advance
or have the exact fare in cash.
From my experience, purchasing your airport bus ticket beforehand
is definitely the most convenient way to go.
It's super convenient because you can use a mobile voucher directly,
making it cheaper and hassle-free without needing to exchange anything.
📌 Fukuoka Airport Bus Ticket Prices
| Price | Booking Link |
MyRealTrip | ~$2 | |
Trip.com | ~$3 |
It's even cheaper than exchanging money, saving you on conversion fees, so if you're planning to take the airport bus,
I highly recommend buying your ticket in advance!
(*Valid for 3 months from purchase date,
same-day booking not available)

Airport buses heading to Hakata Station
operate from 8 AM to 9 PM.
📌 Fukuoka Hakata Station Airport Bus Schedule
Weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays / Public Holidays
- 08:00 / 08:20 / 08:40
- 09:00 - 17:00: every 00 / 15 / 30 / 45 minutes past the hour
- 18:00 / 18:20 / 18:40
- 19:00 / 19:20 / 19:45
- 20:10 / 20:35
- 21:00
Buses usually run every 15 to 20 minutes,
so you won't have to wait long at the airport!
The journey to Hakata Station takes approximately 15 minutes!

For the airport bus heading to Tenjin,
you can catch it right next to the terminal for Hakata Station.
The fare is 500 JPY for adults and 250 JPY for children.
The journey time is also a bit longer than to Hakata Station,
taking around 30-40 minutes.
Since buses to Tenjin have longer intervals than those
to Hakata Station, I recommend checking the timetable in advance.

📍 Hakata

📍 Tenjin Station

4. Fukuoka Airport Taxi & Uber Discounts

For those traveling with children,
another method I highly recommend is
hailing a taxi using the Uber app.
When I returned to Fukuoka from the city center,
I used Uber, and truly, a taxi was the absolute best option.
I had an Uber discount coupon, so I was able to use it
and get a slightly cheaper ride.
If you have plans for a trip to Japan,
I definitely suggest grabbing an Uber discount coupon beforehand.
➰ Check Japan Uber Discount Code
First-time riders can use a 50% discount coupon,
while existing users can get two 25% discount coupons.

When you use a Japanese taxi with the Uber app,
it's not a fixed fare,
but if your accommodation is near Hakata Station, you can expect around ¥2,000-¥3,000
(the app will show you an estimated fare).
It's great because you can pre-enter your destination in the app
and it can take you right to your hotel entrance!
I took taxis multiple times, and all the drivers were very friendly
and they even helped me with my luggage.
📌 How to get from Fukuoka Airport to Hakata Station
While the subway is the cheapest option,
you have to take a free shuttle bus
to the domestic terminal
and then take the subway from there.
The airport bus, on the other hand, departs directly from the international terminal
and takes you straight to Hakata Station.
So, if you're traveling without kids and have light luggage, the subway is good.
If you're with kids and have suitcases, the airport bus is your best bet.
And if you have a lot of luggage and want to go directly to your accommodation,
I recommend taking an Uber taxi.
If you decide to take the airport bus,
I recommend getting your tickets in advance!

Fukuoka Airport to Hakata Station Bus Ticket
Since you might need to use Uber during your trip,
make sure to grab an Uber discount coupon too ~
Japanese taxi fares can be pricey, but having a discount coupon when traveling with two kids
was incredibly, incredibly useful for reducing the burden!
