Getting from Fukuoka Airport to Hakata Station is quite straightforward, with three main transportation options:

The airport is well-signed, and Fukuoka City is incredibly close, so any of these methods will get you to your destination efficiently. You can't really go wrong!

Airport Bus
After you've cleared immigration, head to the 1st floor of the International Terminal. You'll easily spot signs for "Bus" and "Shuttle Bus." Just follow them straight ahead.
If you see Tully's Coffee, head to your right, and you'll immediately find the bus terminal.
Bus stops 6 and 7 are for Hakata Station. You'll notice lines labeled A, B, and C, which serve different destinations like Dazaifu, LaLaport, and Hakata. The specific line for Hakata can change, so always check the signs. There are usually staff members on-site to guide you, so don't worry!
Here's the official airport bus timetable. Buses typically run every 15-20 minutes.
The fare is about ~$2. You can purchase your bus ticket from the vending machines located nearby. They accept both cash and card payments. For added convenience, you can also book your ticket online in advance:
Book Fukuoka Airport Bus to Hakata Station Online
If you're using a credit card, you can often tap directly when boarding without needing a physical ticket. Buses in Japan are usually boarded from the rear door.
The device on the left is for credit cards, and the one on the right is for tapping IC transit cards like Suica or Pasmo. You'll tap your card once when you board and again when you exit.
Any credit card with the Wi-Fi symbol (indicating contactless payment) should work.
Japanese buses typically operate with rear-door boarding and front-door exiting.
The left machine is for credit cards, and the right is for tickets, cash (coins only!), or tapping your IC transit card.
If you wish to pay for multiple people with a single card, simply inform the driver how many people are in your group ("~ meidesu") when you exit, and then tap your card on the machine.
The fare to Hakata Station is ~$2. Since Hakata Station is the final stop, you don't need to press the stop button.
The bus offers plenty of seating and is quite spacious. However, if you have large suitcases, the rear seating area might feel a bit cramped as there isn't dedicated luggage storage there.
Subway
You can't catch the subway directly from the International Terminal. You'll need to take a free shuttle bus to the Domestic Terminal first. Follow the signs for "Domestic Terminal Connection Bus (Subway)".
The shuttle bus stop is right next to the airport bus stops 6 and 7. Head outside and board at Stop 5. The ride to the Domestic Terminal takes about 10 minutes.
Once you exit at the Domestic Terminal, you'll see the subway station entrance. Take the stairs down to access the subway platforms.
While the subway is an option, there's no direct airport bus to Tenjin Station. So, if Tenjin is your final destination, the subway or a taxi are your best bets. However, for Hakata Station, with its direct airport bus service, we generally don't recommend the subway due to the extra transfer step.
The subway fare to both Hakata Station and Tenjin Station is ~$2. Hakata takes about 5 minutes, and Tenjin takes approximately 11 minutes.
If your itinerary involves frequent subway use, we highly recommend purchasing a 1-day subway pass for unlimited rides.
Fukuoka's subway passes are quite affordable, and you'll often save money even if you only take three subway rides!
Taxi
Finally, a taxi ride to Hakata Station takes around 15 minutes and typically costs about ~$12.
Japanese taxi fares can be quite pricey. Given how easy and affordable the bus and subway options are, we generally don't recommend a taxi unless you have an excessive amount of luggage or are traveling with a larger group where the cost can be split.
If you plan to use a ride-sharing service like Uber, head out to Exit A4 and look for the reserved taxi sign at Stop 12 to meet your driver.

After immigration, exit to the 1st floor. If you go right past Tully's Coffee, you'll find the bus terminal. Stops 6 and 7 are for Hakata Station. Look for the sign among queues A, B, and C, and queue for Hakata. On-site staff can also assist you.
You can purchase a ticket from the bus ticket machine using cash or card, or you can book online in advance. When boarding the bus, you can also pay by tapping a credit card with a Wi-Fi symbol or an IC transportation card like Suica/Pasmo on the machine at the rear door.
It takes about 10 minutes to travel from the International Terminal to the Domestic Terminal by connecting shuttle bus, then about 5 minutes by subway to Hakata Station. The total travel time is approximately 20 minutes, and the fare is approximately ~$2.
The taxi fare from Fukuoka Airport to Hakata Station is approximately ~$9-~$12. Since Japanese taxi fares are expensive, it might be efficient if you have a lot of luggage or are traveling with multiple people.
