Before you set off on your adventure,
if Fukuoka is a new destination for you,
you might be wondering how to craft the perfect itinerary.
Today, I'm thrilled to share my personal 3-night, 4-day Fukuoka, Japan
independent travel itinerary and course with you!

Broadly speaking, the itinerary covers exploring Fukuoka city,
a nearby excursion, and, of course, shopping!
Fukuoka is a fantastic city for shopping, especially since many malls are conveniently located close to each other,
making it an ideal destination for retail therapy during the current favorable yen exchange rate.
I'll delve into the detailed itinerary right below.
Have you secured your accommodation yet?
Before we dive deeper into the itinerary,
if you haven't secured your accommodation yet,
I'd love to recommend the hotel where I stayed for my entire 3-night, 4-day trip.
The fantastic place I called home was the Hakata Sutton Hotel,
conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from Hakata Station.
Its proximity to the station means superb accessibility from the airport,
and it's incredibly close to the meeting points for various day tours to the surrounding areas.
What's more, with Lawson and Seven-Eleven convenience stores right near the hotel,
it was incredibly convenient for grabbing late-night snacks every evening!
What truly impressed me was that even though I booked this hotel primarily for its value,
the room quality exceeded all my expectations.
There was ample space to open two suitcases without feeling cramped,
and the bathroom was spotlessly clean, contributing to a truly satisfying stay.

Now, let's dive into the detailed 3-Night, 4-Day Independent Travel Course for Fukuoka!
Day 1
Kicking off your adventure, after arriving in Fukuoka from your home country,
you'll head straight for hotel check-in.
While this can vary depending on your flight schedule,
most travelers find that after settling into their accommodation,
it's usually already the afternoon.
For our first day, we made our way to Tenjin,
the city's main street, and explored its vibrant thoroughfares.
Daimyo Street in Tenjin is packed with all sorts of brands,
making it perfect for shopping or just browsing.
From Montbell, Supreme, Stüssy, Bape, and more,
all the hottest brands right now are gathered here.
After exploring the city, when evening falls,
there's one place I absolutely have to recommend.
And that's the Nakasu Riverside!
This area seems to have developed so much more
since my last visit a few years ago.
Around Nakasu Riverside, you'll find plenty of diverse entertainment,
like the C-pla Gacha Shop, but the real highlight
is definitely experiencing the Nakasu Riverside yatai (food stall) street just below!
The Nakasu Yatai Street stretches along the riverside,
a truly romantic spot where you can enjoy a drink
and feel the gentle river breeze from evening into the night.
The prices might be a little on the higher side,
but if you consider it the cost of a romantic experience,
it's definitely worth visiting at least once!
Day 2
Day 2 is dedicated to exploring the nearby areas.
To visit several nearby destinations from Fukuoka,
the most convenient way is to take a bus tour.
Not only is transportation in Japan expensive,
but by taking a tour bus,
you don't have to worry about coordinating public transport schedules!
While there are many different day trips from Fukuoka,
I highly recommend a bus tour that visits Hita, Yufuin, and Beppu!
Hita is quite popular these days, and
the bus tour I took also included a visit to the Sapporo Beer Factory!
The bus tour's first stop is Hita, where I recommend spending about an hour soaking in the charm of this Japanese small town,
grabbing some snacks, or shopping for souvenirs like local soy sauce.
Next, at the Sapporo Beer Factory, you can spend about 30 minutes touring,
and I was truly satisfied because you can actually enjoy a draft beer right there at the brewery!
In Yufuin, the main day trip destination,
you can spend about three hours.
Visiting Lake Kinrin, trying various snacks,
and souvenir shopping will make the time fly by!
Finally, at Kamado Jigoku (Hell) in Beppu,
you can experience the wondrous 'hells' and enjoy a relaxing foot bath,
melting away the day's fatigue.
This bus tour truly lets you make the most of Fukuoka's nearby attractions
all in just one day, so my satisfaction with it was incredibly high.

After the bus tour, you'll likely arrive back in the city center around 6-7 PM.
I recommend grabbing dinner and then enjoying some light shopping at Don Quijote!
Day 3
On Day 3, your itinerary includes visiting Dazaifu, a nearby area,
in the morning, followed by some fantastic shopping at a department store or
shopping mall in the afternoon!
Dazaifu is easily accessible from Hakata Station Bus Terminal,
as you can take a direct bus,
making it a perfectly convenient destination to visit even without a dedicated tour.
Along the path leading up to the shrine, you'll find charming souvenirs,
and delicious snacks. I recommend enjoying these delightful treats
after you've finished exploring the shrine!
Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is incredibly beautiful in itself,
which is why it's a must-visit spot for me every time
I come to Fukuoka.
Local Japanese people often visit Dazaifu to pray for academic success,
so if you get the chance to visit, be sure to make a wish and soak in the spiritual atmosphere!
After returning from Dazaifu, I highly recommend a department store shopping spree in the city center.
With the Japanese Yen currently quite low,
you'll find some amazing deals and great value for your money!
On my recent Fukuoka trip, I visited Mina Tenjin
and found myself completely enchanted, happily shopping at stores like Uniqlo and Sanrio!
Beyond that, take your time exploring the charming Tenjin Underground Shopping Mall,
and for a touch of luxury, indulge in some high-end shopping at department stores like Hankyu,
where you'll discover brands like Celine and Dior!
Day 4
On your last day, enjoy a leisurely morning stroll in the serene Ohori Park,
before heading to the airport for your return journey home.
Ohori Park is a considerably large park
located right in downtown Fukuoka,
making it perfect for a morning stroll.
What's more, the Starbucks located within Ohori Park
has such a wonderful atmosphere,
so it's a great spot to enjoy a morning coffee!
Finally, I hope you make your way to Fukuoka Airport,
enjoy a delicious meal there,
and then catch your flight back home!

3-night, 4-day trip to Fukuoka.

let me give you a rough idea:
For a 3-night, 4-day trip for two,
excluding shopping, it cost around ~$966.
Please keep in mind that this can vary depending on
accommodation type and dining choices!

We stayed at the Hakata SUTTON Hotel. It's conveniently located a 5-minute walk from Hakata Station, offering easy access to the airport and nearby tour meeting points. There are Lawson and 7-Eleven convenience stores right next to the hotel, which is very convenient.
It's a bus tour visiting Hita, Yufuin, and Beppu. In Hita, you can experience the charm of a small town for 1 hour, then enjoy a 30-minute tour and draft beer at the Sapporo Beer Factory. After that, you'll have 3 hours in Yufuin to enjoy Lake Kinrin and shop for snacks/souvenirs. Finally, you can relieve your fatigue with a 'hell experience' and a foot bath at Beppu's Kamado Jigoku (Hell).
You can enjoy various attractions around the Nakasu riverside, such as the C-pla Gacha Shop. We especially recommend enjoying a drink at the Nakasu Yatai (food stall) street, feeling the riverside breeze and soaking in the romantic atmosphere.
You can get to Dazaifu directly by taking a bus from the Hakata Station Bus Terminal. It's an easily accessible destination even without a tour.
Excluding shopping, the approximate cost for a 3-night, 4-day trip for two people was around ~$966. This is a reference amount that can vary depending on the type of accommodation and meals.
