Fukuoka 3-Day Itinerary 2026: Yufuin & Dazaifu Day Trip

When planning a 2-night, 3-day trip to Fukuoka,

I worried that only seeing the city would feel incomplete,

but going all the way to Yufuin seemed like it would be too tight on time...

Still, after traveling all the way to Fukuoka,

it felt like a shame to skip Yufuin,

so in the end, I decided to squeeze in Yufuin AND Dazaifu!

The result?

You can absolutely fit Yufuin into a 2-night, 3-day trip!

Instead of trying to cram too many areas into one day,

I strategically divided my trip: Day 1 for the city center / Day 2 for the surrounding areas / Day 3 for shopping.

This is how I traveled.

By planning my Fukuoka itinerary this way, I was able to

fully enjoy my 2-night, 3-day adventure.

Fukuoka 2-Night, 3-Day Itinerary at a Glance

This is the exact itinerary I followed.

Day 1｜Hakata Station

Arrived in Fukuoka on an afternoon flight

(Airport arrival time: 17:00)

Fukuoka Airport is conveniently close to the city, so even with an afternoon arrival,

I was able to make the most of my first evening.

For this trip, my accommodation was Tokyu Stay Hakata.

Since an early morning Yufuin bus tour was scheduled for the next day, I chose a hotel near Hakata Station, the tour's meeting point.

Indeed, being close to Hakata Station made transfers

efficient, both from the airport on the first day

and for the tour on the second!

The room itself wasn't cramped for a Japanese hotel,

and it even had a microwave and washing machine.

The microwave, in particular, was incredibly useful!

If you're planning a 2-night, 3-day itinerary that includes a day trip to the suburbs, like I did,

First meal in Fukuoka: Ramen!

Of course, the first meal in Fukuoka had to be Tonkotsu Ramen!

I considered Ichiran but ended up going to Ikkousha Main Store, which came highly recommended as a local favorite.

It had a really rich flavor, so ramen beginners might find it a bit intense? But if you love a hearty sundae gukbap (Korean blood sausage soup), you'll likely be a fan!

For round two, I enjoyed a light drink at an izakaya near Hakata Station.

(Because a trip to Fukuoka is all about the food, right? Haha!)

With an early morning Yufuin tour scheduled for the next day,

I didn't push myself too hard on the first night and headed back early.

But you can't skip a convenience store visit,

so I made a quick stop before heading back to the hotel.

Day 2｜Yufuin Bus Tour + Canal City Nakasu

Day two was designated as my Fukuoka day trip adventure.

I opted for a bus tour that packed Yufuin, Dazaifu, and Beppu into one full day.

Trying to visit each place individually by public transport seemed

complicated with tricky routes and too much to worry about,

so I decided to dedicate an entire day to a tour.

It was a packed schedule from morning till night,

but since I didn't have to worry about transportation

and could just focus on sightseeing, it was actually quite manageable and enjoyable!

After finishing our tour and returning to Fukuoka city,

we explored Canal City

and even checked out Nakasu Yatai Street.

Dinner was Yakiniku.

We definitely needed a proper dinner,

so we had it at Yakiniku Bakuro.

After walking around all day,

the meat tasted even better, haha!

The price was a bit on the higher side,

but it's still the first place I think of when I crave Yakiniku!

Our final stop was the Yatai street, where you can soak in the romantic atmosphere.

It's great to visit here when the weather is nice,

but the food isn't exceptionally delicious.

It's perfect for a second round if you just want to enjoy the vibe.

Day 3 ｜ Tenjin City + Shopping

Since our flight on the last day was at 6 PM,

we had plenty of time.

There was no need to rush in the morning, so we had curry

and started leisurely with a cup of coffee at a cafe.

My husband and I love curry so much that

we always seek out great curry spots whenever we visit Japan.

This curry was absolutely delicious!

Spicy, creamy, and incredibly savory – a perfect umami bomb!

When paired with beer, it's simply irresistible.

After our meal, we had another coffee at a nearby cafe

before heading to Tenjin.

Tenjin Shopping.

We explored the Tenjin Underground Shopping Mall and, of course, ended up at Don Quijote.

I definitely intended to buy just a little,

but before I knew it, my luggage was overflowing, and I wondered how I'd fit everything into my suitcase, haha!

After organizing our suitcases at the accommodation,

we leisurely made our way to the airport.

And just like that, our 2-night, 3-day Fukuoka trip came to an end!

it cost around ~USD 526.

This amount includes shopping,

so the total might vary depending on how much you eat and buy.

Flights and hotels

tend to have significant price differences depending on the dates,

so if your travel dates are set,

it's best to check these two first.

At first,

I wondered, 'Can I really fit Yufuin into a 2-night, 3-day trip?'

But after actually going,

I realized it was absolutely the right choice to include Yufuin!

Even though it was a short trip,

by dividing our goals for each day,

we managed to make it surprisingly fulfilling.
