Stop just chasing the lowest flight prices! Discover how to score free airport lounge access and other valuable perks by strategically booking your next international trip.

When planning an international trip, do you usually just hunt for the cheapest flight ticket, even if it's only a few dollars less?
I used to only compare the absolute lowest prices for international flights, too.
But these days, I look at the value of the benefits you can get after booking and factor that into the total cost.
To get straight to the point,
my personal benchmark for comparison is ~$14.
👉️Difference of ~$14 or more → Book the cheapest option
👉️Difference of less than ~$14 → Book with Trip.com
Wondering why I bother booking with Trip.com even if it's slightly more expensive?
Let me tell you!
If you consistently book your flights through Trip.com,
you can snag perks like free airport lounge access, a free eSIM, and even discount coupons!
So, even if it's not the absolute lowest price,
if the prices are similar, Trip.com might actually be the better deal.

2. Don't forget your free eSIM data |
3. Compare and book the cheapest flights |
4. Cheapest vs. Trip.com: Why choose Trip.com? |
1. Calculate the value of free airport lounge benefits

One of the biggest reasons I book international flights on Trip.com
is for the free airport VIP lounge access.
Currently, Platinum-tier members and above can enjoy lounge benefits
at over 700 airports worldwide, depending on their tier.
And reaching Platinum status is surprisingly easy!

① Automatic Silver status upon signup
② Gold status after completing 1 booking
③ Platinum status after 3 additional bookings and usage upon reaching Gold
In short, you only need to complete 4 bookings in total.
Plus, there are no spending limits,
so you can quickly reach Platinum by booking not just flights and accommodations, but even inexpensive tickets!
(Please note, only eligible bookings count!)
It's such an easy tier to achieve that
if you're already a member, log in now and check the top right corner!

If you're Platinum or Diamond,
you'll likely already have free lounge access passes!

So, let's look at the free lounge benefits by tier!
Trip.com Membership Tier | Free Lounge Access Passes |
Platinum | 1 pass · worth approximately ~$44 |
Diamond | 2 passes · worth approximately ~$88 |
Diamond+ | 3 passes · worth approximately ~$131 |
Black Diamond | 12 passes · worth approximately ~$524 |
The standard adult price for Incheon Airport's Sky Hub Lounge is USD 45.

Of course, domestic lounges can often be accessed for almost half price,
so this might not seem like a huge perk at first glance.
But here's the kicker: this benefit applies to lounges worldwide!
Unlike in Korea, overseas lounges rarely offer discount vouchers.

I've personally enjoyed free access to lounges like Hong Kong Airlines and
Hong Kong Plaza Premium Lounge in Hong Kong.
When you click "Get Pass," a QR code is issued, as shown in the photo below,
and you can use it immediately!
Directions are also kindly provided!

My review of using the Hong Kong Airport Lounge for free👇
While Hong Kong Airlines lounges were a more affordable ~$30-$38,
a Plaza Premium Lounge pass, on the other hand, can go for around ~$69 for 2 hours,
or ~$97 for 5 hours!

London's Plaza Premium Lounges also go for around ~$62,
Paris Extime lounges can cost around ~$104,
so they're all quite pricey!
That's why it's actually more beneficial to get free lounge passes worth ~$69 each,
rather than trying to save a few dollars on the cheapest flight tickets!

These days, even if you get a new credit card, PP cards are rarely offered,
and the number of uses available through The Lounge app is very limited.
So, having these free lounge passes can be surprisingly useful!
However, please make sure to check the available partner lounges in 'My Rewards' before departure,
as the lounges you can enter with a Trip.com free pass vary by airport and terminal.
Most major cities are included, though!

2. Score Free eSIM Data!
The second benefit is free eSIM data!
Starting from Platinum tier, you get a free eSIM that you can use right away.
Tier | Free eSIM Provided |
Platinum | 1GB / 3 days (1 unit) |
Diamond | 3GB / 5 days (1 unit) |
Diamond+ | 3GB / 5 days (2 units) |
Black Diamond | 3GB / 5 days (8 units) |
You can use it in over 70 countries and regions worldwide!
While eSIMs are generally affordable, so this might seem like just a bonus perk,
it's actually pretty significant if you think of it as a roaming alternative.

I mean, roaming costs ~$7 a day, right?
So, using a free eSIM instead of roaming feels like saving ~$21 over 3 days.
Especially for short trips to places like Japan or Hong Kong,
1GB to 3GB can be more than enough!
👉️ Start your Trip.com journey!
3. Compare and Book the Cheapest Flights

So, if we've covered why booking international travel on Trip.com is advantageous so far,
now I'll tell you how to actually choose your flight tickets!
You can use flight comparison sites like Skyscanner or Kayak, but
I've been using MyRealTrip's flight page very conveniently lately!

This platform shows you the lowest prices by month,
and for those who want to travel to the cheapest destination
without a fixed date or region in mind,
it helps you easily decide on your destination and dates!
👉️ See MyRealTrip's lowest flight prices by date/destination

① Go to MyRealTrip's flight page
② Enter your desired region and check for the cheapest period
③ Check flights for that period
④ Compare the price of the same flight on Trip.com
⑤ If the price difference between ③ and ④ is more than ~$14,
book on the cheapest site. If it's less than that?
This is how I usually proceed!
Thanks to this, I've maintained Platinum status for over 2 years now,
and I'm making great use of my lounge passes!
4. Lowest Price vs. Trip.com: Why Choose Trip.com?

While I do choose Trip.com for the benefits mentioned above,
the biggest reason is definitely the travel convenience.
It's because Trip.com provides real-time updates when you book international flights!
✅ Gate changes
✅ Flight delays
✅ Baggage claim carousel
✅ Need to take an airport train

Honestly, sometimes you only find out about a sudden gate change or
an international flight delay by checking the **information screen**, don't you?
Then you have to rush to the correct gate.

When claiming baggage, you often have to search for a long time to figure out
where to pick up your luggage for your specific flight.
Trip.com updates all this information in real-time, so
it's genuinely so convenient!

It also clearly provides baggage size limits and inclusion details, which is super helpful!
This is why many frequent international travelers,
once they start using Trip.com, tend to stick with it.
Let's summarize the conclusion!
✅ If the price difference between the lowest price and Trip.com is more than ~$14 → Consider the lowest price first
✅ If the price difference is less than ~$14 → Calculate Trip.com's benefits
✅ Platinum tier or higher → Check your free lounge passes first
✅ Don't Forget Your Free eSIM and Trip Coins!
Especially if you've used Trip.com a few times already,
you might just be a Platinum member without even realizing it!

Before you book your flight,
make sure to check your membership status and any free lounge passes on the Trip.com app first.
If you travel abroad frequently like I do,
instead of chasing the absolute lowest price of a few dollars,
getting free access to a lounge, which could easily be worth nearly ~$69, can be a far better deal!

I truly hope this post was helpful for you today,
So, go ahead and make those flight bookings wisely,
and have an absolutely wonderful trip!
