When planning a trip to the Maldives, you often have several layover options.
We decided to spend two nights in Abu Dhabi.
Our first night was at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr,
followed by one night at Telal Resort, a desert hotel.
And let me tell you, choosing Abu Dhabi for our stopover was an absolute game-changer!
While a Singapore layover is always a fantastic option, Abu Dhabi truly offered an exotic vibe that captivated us.
Since we were arriving late on the first night, we initially thought about staying at a cheaper hotel,
but then we thought, 'When would we get this chance again?' and decided to splurge on the Fairmont, specifically for that incredible mosque view.

⭐ 5-star hotel
The biggest reason we chose this hotel is the incredible view of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque from the rooms.
It's situated directly across a river, so the view is much closer and more breathtaking in person than in photos!
After comparing prices, Trip.com is currently cheaper than Agoda by about ~$21.
2. Mosque View Room Review
The city view rooms were the most affordable option,
but we decided to splurge on the mosque view room since we weren't planning a separate visit to the mosque itself.
It had the refined style of a 5-star chain hotel:
white bedding, wooden furniture,
and a balanced, understated interior.
The bathroom was pristine,
and the complimentary dessert they left for us, knowing it was an anniversary trip, was a delightful surprise.
Could this have been special Dubai chocolate, perhaps?!
But the real highlight of this hotel isn't the room's interior –
it's the view outside the window!
During the day, you get a clear view of the magnificent white mosque, and at night, you can admire it beautifully illuminated.
It's *so* much closer in person than it appears in photos.

3. The Pool
And let's talk about the pool – utterly exotic!
◾ Outdoor swimming pool
◾ Creek views
◾ Plenty of sunbeds available
◾ Relatively quiet atmosphere
While it's not a full-on beachfront resort like some in Dubai, it definitely had a beachy feel,
almost like a luxurious city hotel perfectly blended with a relaxing resort-style pool.
If our itinerary had taken us directly to the Maldives,
we might not have bothered using the pool,
but since it was a layover, we had an extra day, so we enjoyed a light morning swim.
The pool is beautiful, so you absolutely must try it!
4. The Gym - An unexpectedly satisfying space
Fairmont Bab Al Bahr
was known for having an excellent gym.
So, off we went for a workout!
Wow... the scale is even bigger than I expected.
◾ Mainly Technogym equipment
◾ Wide variety of cardio machines
◾ Separate free weight zone
◾ Open and airy with floor-to-ceiling windows
◾ Mosque view
It was more than just a hotel gym;
it was good enough to operate as a standalone fitness center.
It had so many great Google Maps reviews, and seeing it in person made it even better.
Min was absolutely thrilled ^^
It's definitely a satisfying facility for anyone who wants to keep up with their fitness routine while traveling.
5. Breakfast
Breakfast was served buffet style with an international selection.

◾ Wide variety of bread
◾ Fresh fruits
We wanted to eat outside with a view of the mosque,
but it was just too hot, so we ended up dining indoors...
And then there was the Middle Eastern price tag... lol
2 coffees + 1 dessert
~$30...
Though the dessert *did* have real gold leaf on it.
The next day, we moved to Telal Resort, a desert hotel.

Our stay at Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, with its Mosque View room, as our layover hotel for our Maldives trip,
was a thoroughly satisfying choice for a transit stop.
With its excellent accessibility to the airport,
impressive mosque views from the room,
and great pool and gym facilities,
this hotel is a perfect fit if you're looking for more than just a simple transit stop –
if you want a day that gently ushers in the start of your journey.
