Taipei Budget Hotel Recommendation
East Dragon Hotel near Ximending Station

Scoring top marks for affordability, location, and room size,
East Dragon Hotel in Ximending is a hidden gem.
While it has a few minor drawbacks,
if you're looking for a budget-friendly Taipei hotel
where location and space are your top priorities,
you'll be hard-pressed to find a better deal.
Here is my honest, unsponsored 3-night review.

First,
It absolutely had to be near Ximending Station.
This was my third trip to Taiwan,
and if your itinerary revolves around food and sightseeing,
staying in Ximending is undeniably the most convenient choice.
It's packed with famous local eateries,
and the proximity to the MRT makes day trips a breeze.
If it's your first time in Taipei, you'll love this area.
Second,
The price had to be under ~$307 for 3 nights.
Taipei hotels can be surprisingly pricey,
and finding a well-located spot near a station
for under ~$77 a night is quite the challenge.
Third,
Solid basic room conditions.
Even if it wasn't the absolute cheapest option,
I needed a room large enough to fully open a suitcase,
and it absolutely had to have a window.
Taiwan is humid year-round,
so rooms without proper ventilation can feel incredibly musty.
After hours of intense searching, I booked the
East Dragon Hotel near Ximending Station.
They offer several room types,
but since I wanted plenty of space,
I opted for the Corner Classic Double Room.
I was traveling with my sibling's couple,
so we booked 2 rooms for 3 nights for a total of ~$507.
That broke down to about ~$84 per room, per night.
The Corner Classic Double Room
is limited to just one per floor,
so it tends to sell out very quickly.

5-minute walk from Ximending Station
Walking distance to famous cafes and restaurants
Iconic spots like Yonghe Soy Milk and Tian Tian Li are right across the street.
There's also a convenience store just a 2-minute walk away.
Being so close to the station made getting around effortless,
and having so many popular dining spots
within walking distance made planning our days incredibly easy.
I'd give the location a solid 10 out of 10.

✔️ 24-Hour Check-in
✔️ Check-out at 11:00 AM
The front desk operates 24/7,
and they offer complimentary luggage storage.
Just note that after check-out,
luggage storage is only available until 10:00 PM.

We had a red-eye flight and booked an airport taxi for 11:30 PM.
We were wondering how to kill time,
but the staff kindly let us relax in this lounge area.
The staff communicated well in English
and were incredibly friendly!
We even grabbed some Xing Fu Tang boba to-go
and enjoyed it here like our own private cafe.
(There's a restroom available too!)
Keep in mind, as a budget-friendly and eco-conscious spot,
toothbrushes and toothpaste are not provided.
They only supply towels and refillable shampoo and body wash.
I stayed in Room 502,
which had been recently renovated.

Not all rooms at the East Dragon Hotel have been updated yet,
so I made sure to request a renovated room in advance.
While it depends on availability,
they are usually quite accommodating if you ask ahead of time.

It perfectly met my two main conditions:
a spacious layout (215 sq ft) and windows that actually open.
Finding a room this size in Ximending
at this price point is seriously difficult!
The room was large enough
to lay two large suitcases flat with room to spare.
There was also a small clothing rack near the entrance,
which was super handy for hanging our outfits for the next day.
Because the room was so spacious, I worried the bathroom might be cramped,
but it was surprisingly large and spotless.
I brought a shower filter just in case,
and it stayed perfectly clean until our last day.
The water pressure was excellent,
and we had plenty of hot water.

Since we checked in at night, I didn't notice right away,
but the daytime view had such a great vibe!
When the sunlight poured in, it felt straight out of a Taiwanese indie film.
Opening the curtains every morning was a genuine joy.

Now, for the downsides!
It's not the quietest hotel.
Our room was quiet at night,
though we could hear some faint scooter noise in the morning.
Conversely, my sibling's room was on a higher floor,
so they didn't hear street traffic,
but they did experience a bit of noise from the room next door.

Your experience will likely depend on your specific room
and how sensitive you are to sound.
(They do provide earplugs upon request!)
To be honest, my group and I
weren't really bothered by it.
Given the unbeatable location and value,
we would definitely stay here again.
However, if you are a very light sleeper,
you might want to look elsewhere.

On the flip side,
if you're highly sensitive to noise and need absolute silence,
you might want to weigh your options.
Still,
the room size and natural light
provided a huge boost to my overall satisfaction.
When you factor in the location and price,
it's an incredibly competitive choice.
I would absolutely stay here again on my next trip! :)
