When planning a trip to Japan, there is one essential stop
that is always on everyone's itinerary: shopping at Don Quijote!
Today, as a seasoned traveler on my Nth trip to Japan, I'm excited to share
my ultimate Don Quijote shopping list recommendations with you!
Plus, as a little bonus tip, I'll share a handy discount coupon
you can use on your Don Quijote shopping spree, so make sure to save it!
First off, the Don Quijote discount coupon I'm sharing

recommendations!
Snacks & Sweets
📍 First up, the easiest and most fun category to fill your cart with: snacks!
To start off, I highly recommend KitKats.
Since they are individually wrapped,
they are absolutely perfect for sharing with coworkers at the office.
Plus, there are so many unique flavors that you can't find back home,
so definitely challenge yourself to try some of the rare, limited-edition flavors!
Next up are sandwich cookies, like Languly.
The top two feature Kumamoto’s beloved mascot, Kumamon,
while the cookie at the very bottom is the classic Languly cookie
that you can find at any standard Don Quijote branch.
The Kumamon-themed cookies are a bit pricier,
but they make for a wonderful, premium gift.
For a budget-friendly option with great value, the standard Languly is the way to go!
Alfort and Bake Creamy Cheese are two Don Quijote treats
that I personally absolutely adore.
Especially the melon flavor of Alfort is a rare find, so
if you see it, you absolutely have to grab it!
I only bought one, but it was just sweet enough with a lovely melon aroma,
making it incredibly delicious.
Bake Cheesecake is moist and soft,
and packed with a rich cheese flavor—it's a crowd-pleaser that anyone would love.
Another must-buy items I highly recommend are Pocky and Pretz.
Pocky is similar to Pepero, but there are so many different flavors
that I recommend grabbing a few varieties to try them all.
Pretz is also a snack I always bring back with me,
and the tomato flavor is especially tasty—it has a slight pizza vibe!
Next up is Jagabee, which is one of those snacks
you simply can't leave Don Quijote without.
It's incredibly crispy and salty, making it totally addictive.
Personally, I highly recommend the mentaiko (pollock roe) flavor!
Umaibo is another shopping essential you can't miss.
It has a bit of a junk-food vibe, but once you start eating them,
before you know it, you've devoured several. It's basically human kibble!
Because they are so bulky, they take up a lot of space in the suitcase,
so I was really sad I couldn't bring more of them back with me.
Next up is the Noriten (seaweed tempura) snack.
It's slightly oily, but the crispy, savory texture
makes it the perfect beer pairing snack!
If you love crispy and salty snacks, I highly recommend this one.
Candies & Jellies
📍 The second category is candies & jellies!
First, I'd love to recommend Mintia.
They are mints similar to Eclipse,
and they're perfect for popping one or two on the go!
Next, Ryukakusan is great to eat like cough drops,
making it a wonderful gift for parents.
I also keep some stocked at work to eat throughout the day!
Don Quijote has so many different brands of jellies.
Among them, I highly recommend Kororo Jelly.
They have a unique, bursting texture that's super satisfying,
and the melon flavor is especially delicious!
Konjac Jelly is another absolute must-buy.
They also come in zero-calorie options, so even if you're on a diet,
you can enjoy them completely guilt-free.
However, the zero-calorie version definitely has a bit less flavor than the regular ones,
so I'd still recommend going for the original!
Cosmetics & Skincare
📍 The third category is cosmetics & skincare!
First up, I highly recommend the super famous Perfect Whip Foam Cleanser.
The original blue version gives you that ultimate squeaky-clean feeling!
Next, I've got to share this Mentholatum Lip Balm with you.
That instant cooling sensation you get the moment you apply it
always boosts my mood..!
Alcoholic Beverages
📍 Fourth on the list is alcoholic beverages!
First, for those who aren't big drinkers, I highly recommend
low-alcohol drinks like Horoyoi!
With varieties like peach, grape, orange, and kiwi,
there are so many flavors to choose from. If they weren't so heavy,
I would have cleared out the shelves and brought tons home!
Next up is lemon sour base concentrate,
which is perfect for whipping up a refreshing drink at home.
It's so easy to mix with a bit of tonic water,
making it a top pick for anyone who loves a casual daily drink.
Also, the incredibly popular
Suntory Kakubin is available at a fantastic price here.
It’s less than half the price of what you'd pay in many other countries,
so if you love highballs, you absolutely must stock up!
Food & Snacks
📍 Fifth is all about food and snacks!
While you can find many of these food items
imported back home nowadays,
buying them directly in Japan is still
quite a bit cheaper!
Favorites like mentai (pollock roe) mayonnaise or
garlic chip chili oil (rayu) are perfect for pairing with rice or bread,
and since they're much more affordable here, they make the perfect souvenirs.
Next, let's talk about some easy-to-make instant foods you can easily grab in Japan.
Furikake is incredibly convenient for making quick rice balls,
and the flavor is top-notch, making it definitely worth a try.
However, since you might get tired of the flavor if you have it too often,
I recommend starting with the smaller packages.
Kumamoto's Kumamon Souvenirs
📍 The final items I want to introduce are souvenirs featuring Kumamoto's ultimate icon—
Kumamon!
You'll find everything from t-shirts to hats,
but personally, I thought the Kumamon t-shirts were just too adorable to pass up..!
