Dogo Onsen is Matsuyama's renowned hot spring, conveniently located near the city's main arcade.

The Main Building is currently preserved as a significant cultural heritage site, offering a glimpse into Japan's rich history.

With its beautiful Japanese gardens both inside and out, you might easily mistake Dogo Onsen for a luxurious traditional hotel.

In fact, a hotel operates alongside the bathhouse.

If you're staying at the hotel, access to the onsen is complimentary!

While specific "free coupons" for certain nationalities might exist, it's always a good idea to check local tourism offices or your accommodation for any available discounts or special offers upon arrival, especially for the Dogo Onsen Annex.

2. Entering Dogo Onsen Annex (Asuka-no-Yu)

Inside the bathhouse, there's a convenient yukata rental counter if you'd like to experience this traditional Japanese garment.

You'll need to pay to use the shoe lockers, so make sure to have a ~$1 coin ready. There's a change machine available if you need to break a larger bill.

The main counter typically doesn't provide change, so it's a good idea to bring some smaller denominations with you. Also, remember that towels are available for a fee, so bringing one from your hotel is a smart move to save a few dollars.

Inside the bathhouse, you'll also find a selection of Matsuyama's local specialties and souvenirs if you're looking for a unique memento.

3. My Dogo Onsen Annex Experience

The baths are separated for men and women. I headed into the women's section.

Upon entering, you'll find the changing rooms conveniently located right inside.

The Annex itself isn't particularly large.

Past the changing rooms, there's a small outdoor area. While it's technically open-air, it's quite enclosed, so it doesn't quite offer the expansive feeling of a true rotenburo (outdoor hot spring).

It goes without saying, but cameras are strictly prohibited inside the bathing areas. Always remember to thoroughly wash yourself before entering the communal bath.

Also, it's important to note that you shouldn't wrap yourself in a towel while entering the bath itself.
