Dodohan Samgyetang HCMC Review: Best Korean Soup

It has already been a month since we moved to Ho Chi Minh City!

To satisfy our cravings for authentic Korean comfort food,

we headed over to the An Phu area near Mega Market

to try Dodohan Samgyetang's District 2 branch.

We were desperately in need of a healthy, soul-warming meal!

Our choices: Nurungji Samgyetang and Black Garlic Neungi Samgyetang

Dodohan Samgyetang District 2 Menu Options

We decided to order

the restaurant's two signature dishes:

the Nurungji Samgyetang and the Black Garlic Neungi Samgyetang.

Each table is stocked with toothpicks, napkins,

salt, and pepper to season your soup to taste.

Right after ordering, they served an incredible array of side dishes (banchan).

It has been so long since we enjoyed such high-quality, authentic kimchi!

The spread included young radish kimchi (yeolmu), cabbage kimchi, kkakdugi,

fresh green peppers, cucumbers, ssamjang dip, and pickled cabbage.

Black Garlic Neungi Samgyetang

They slow-simmer young spring chickens daily with traditional medicinal herbs.

The meat is so incredibly tender that it literally falls off the bone!

The young radish kimchi was so delicious we had to refill it twice.

Dipping the crunchy cucumbers and green peppers into the savory ssamjang made the meal even better.

We polished off our bowls in no time—it tasted just like a comforting

home-cooked meal straight from Korea!

I usually skip the chicken breast because it can be dry and tough,

but the chicken at Dodohan Samgyetang is incredibly juicy.

Even the white meat melted in my mouth

and slid down smoothly.

Stealing a spoonful of my husband's Nurungji Samgyetang!

Once the crispy scorched rice absorbs the rich, hot ginseng broth,

it develops the most amazing chewy and comforting texture.

You know how it goes—

your partner's dish always looks

slightly more tempting, right?

Since I wanted to try both, I subtly convinced him

to order the Nurungji version so we could share!

The Black Garlic Neungi Samgyetang features finely sliced wild Neungi mushrooms,

giving the broth a deep, earthy aroma.

The slow-aged black garlic cloves are scattered throughout,

adding a subtle sweetness that pairs beautifully with the tender chicken.

I initially worried that a whole chicken would be too much

and debated ordering a half-portion, but I completely cleaned my bowl!

Perhaps my appetite has grown lately with all the workouts,

but I polished off every single drop.

Honestly, this tasted even better than the famous samgyetang spots

we used to frequent back in Seoul!

After a good workout and a steaming bowl of ginseng soup,

we felt completely rejuvenated and happily full.

The restaurant has a spacious second floor, making it an ideal spot

for family gatherings, group dinners, or team outings in District 2.

With high chairs available for toddlers and private VIP rooms,

it's highly accommodating. They also feature a great selection of Korean alcohol,

including classic Soju and sweet Bokbunjajoo (raspberry wine).

The service was so warm and welcoming,

it put a massive smile on our faces.

Dodohan Samgyetang is hands-down one of the best Korean dining experiences

we've had in Ho Chi Minh City. The chicken is incredibly tender,

the broth is rich, and we left feeling thoroughly nourished!
